I’m a female software engineer - not sure how I ended up here but I’ve binge watched this entire channel over Christmas vacation and have impatiently awaited your return 😂
I have friends that are from several different paths interested in this. priest, teacher, mechanic, engineer, nurse... Heh even the Swedish crown princess has been taught by Lars Fält (look him up) about these things, so literally all walks. I think we humans are more or less "programmed" to do basic prepping over Millenia of war/famine/natural disasters... Our ancestors always carried at least a cutting tool and knowledge of fire making and how to make stuff to improve the chance of survival, everything from a simple birchbark cup to string, traps and some basic plants that are edible.
Hi Eric. Thanks for reviewing my kit! Great video as always. I have these available on eBay now, under PerformanceEDC Wilderness Pocket Tin. Can’t wait to see more vids! Thanks again, Mike
Welcome back Eric, we were starting to worry. This little kit reminds me of several of my own homemade efforts. Impressed you were able to get all your additions in the tin. Like you, I never attach anything to the outside. It all has to fit the tin.
Hi from England, everyone. I think the paracord may have been left like that, so the internal strands can be removed easily in a pinch, great vids, and good to see you back.
We (Beautiful Bride & family) appreciate the upgrades. A short walk into the jingle in our tropical environment can turn deadly without the ability to rehydrate. My general preference is to house a kit inside a container that may also be used to pasteurize water and cook food. Some means to store collected and processed water is important. Electrical tape or quality duck tape on the container's seams will help keep the contents dry if that is important to you. The tape is also an additional fire extender
I can't help but be honest here It's a nice simple kit and what you did made it way better. But truthfully in the original assortment of stuff that was in there you can find and but it all for packs of 5 or 10 for anywhere between $1 too at most $3 dollars and make yourself a ton of these kit's too toss in the truck back pack wife's car and so on and probably still be under the cost these kit's usually cost. I'm not trying too knock the guy's hustle I'm just being honest. I purchased a 10 pack of those derma safe blades for literally a $1.50 and you can buy those button compass for a buck and get 5 too 10 of them and so on. The most expensive part of that kit was the tin itself and the water purifying pills.
The guy who made the kit isn't trying to sell a bunch of them. He's mainly making them just as a hobby. That's why I didn't talk about a price or anything.
This set was actually generous for it's size. I like that it has two ways to start fire. Maybe striker was bit redundant (piece of metal saw is lighter, slimer and made of carbon steel). After Your addiction (especially water container) this is really nice set.
Hi Eric! I’m back again after posting my first comment and watching this video again. Once again, I’m putting in a good word for Wazoo Survival Gear! Wazoo markets a one liter emergency water bag that you can purify water in with tablets OR you can actually boil water in! The bag is rated up to 400 degrees, is extremely light weight and folds down very small. You could probably get two of these bags in the tin for the same space as the MRE bag! I started including the Wazoo bags in all my survival kits! Just wanted to share this with you. Definitely worth checking out! Again Eric, glad you are back and looking forward to your future videos!
Wow, really thoughtful add ins. I love the sticky mirror best. I would have traded for some bigger safety pins and maybe sealed around it with some electrical tape. Also, another use for alcohol prep pads is sniffing them to helps relieve nausea. I kid you not. Great to have you back. I really missed your videos. 😀
Great video. Glad to see you're back. As for the button compass, I always have the worst luck with those. They point mostly north at best, & every button compass I have developed a bubble.
Don't use the lid to trace out the mirrored film. Trace the bottom of the tin as the template for the mirror. That is the smallest dimensional plane that fits inside the lid. The protective film could be removed from the mirror (or not), replacing it with the fresnal lense that would protect it. You could also wrap the orange 100 lb cord around a mandrel, i.e., the whistle. Secure the ends with a tab of tape. Note: all of the unused real estate inside and outside of the tin. Stickers or metal etching could put useful info on those surfaces. Morse code, purification tablet directions, whatever...
Welcome back, you had some great additions. I think you could fit a couple sheets of write-in-the-rain or similar notepad paper. Also the almighty MacGyver tool, the paperclip!
Pretty good looking kit! I like to use that micro cord in my kits too. I don't like putting things outside the tin either except for a ranger band. But I have attached a grim workshop card tool to the bottom, hardly adds any extra bulk.
I too make survival kits for fun. Always enjoy learning new stuff and adding to my collection. YT algorithm sent me your channel and I've watched every video while thinking dang, this guy stopped making videos.
Leaving the paracord ends unsealed, will mean that you have easy access to the finer fibres in the core. Effectively giving you a lot more than two foot of cordage.
Welcome back! I've been missing your content. I have no idea how you managed to squeeze all that extra stuff into that tin! I have a request. Could you please mealie a "best of" kit using the Solkoa, Esse, Surviveware 1st aid, (and whatever else great kits, plus your additions, of course)? That would be a great kit / bag!
I would just cut the reflective film to fit the lid and wait to glue it in till needed. This was you can use the tin for cooking or boiling without melting the reflective film. Also, you never mention this when you show the Fresnel lens in kits. Many of us wear glasses and in an emergency if your glasses are lost or broken that lens is a God send. Another thing you never mention is that a mirror in a kit is important for more than just signaling. I can help you see and check parts of your body for injury, and first aid. Like the backs of your legs and arms. Good job as usual.
I use the Suma Box.. Its large enough to fit a small water straw,.lighter, Bank line,.Victorinox,.water tabs, bag, mirror, compass, tinder flashlight and more items.. It isnt as small as an altoids,..but it holds, way more..
Good Video always enjoyed your video's. The only thing I would've of done is try fit a victorinox multi tool with saw blade or wire saw and mini bic or some paper matches along with the other fire starter stuff and couple piece of hard candy of some sort and mini fishing kit or some sort of small fishing bait since it already has safety pins and cordage Is all ive done on inside. Then on the outside I be tempted to add a couple mylar blankets.
A good trick for the firestarters is squish them in a vice or hammer them, they flatten right out. You will need to re-fluff them when going to use them but you can fit like twice as many. You may need to submerge them in some warm water first if they dont stay flat.
The only gripe I have about the " pocket sized edc kit" is the lack of room in the tins. Overall, it's a good idea, but one is soo limited in room. I have watched many many videos on this idea thru the years, and a lot of you tubers suggest using a belt pouch in conjunction with the tin to make available room for items that just won't fit inside the tin. I have seen some of them suggest a belt pouch for a cell phone, which I thought was a good idea. It's obvious that they are for cell phones and I'm sure a lot of people just assume that a phone is what is inside the pouch. They don't draw attention to you. Well, just wanted to share my thoughts with you on this subject.
I always melt a candle over cotton balls. The wax turns them into malleable little bricks that gives you a 5 mins burn time. Probably get 3-4 bricks per ball. Im thinking of dipping one corner in crushed match heads to help it to spark up quickly. But not sure it would be safe
In some of your critiques you have reviewed kits that had less then that little tin. it had stuff for fire/water/first aid/light/ even though tin is small...cook and water container. yes not much but again more stuff covered then far larger kits you've reviewed. what was the cost?
How are you? I want to recommend that you see the videos about the micro kit on the capsule of the kinder egg from the Spanish community of survival. I don't know if the mini altoid tin can be used like that. I see you from argentina!! 👋🏻😊
Hi I’m wondering if you’ve ever seen splinter putters? They are flat and work better than a needle and tweezers. I’ve never seen them in kits but they are in mine.
How much id Performance charging for this diminutive kit?? Did you mention that?? The value of a kit like this is its contents weighed against it cost. Most people would be far better off to spend a few dollars and make their own kit that contained items that would actually be helpful in a 3 day plus situation. These little kits are fun to put together but about as practical as mud in the rain. Ax
Better to not melt the ends of the 550 cord as you can strip the cord and use the separate strands for things. I know you could still cut it again but no need to do it in the first place.
I like that kit with your additions except for the cordage. The 2' of paracord provides a total of 16 feet of cordage with seven inner strands plus the outer sheath. I don't recognize the cord you subbed, but it doesn't look that versatile. I would rather substitute a much longer length of thin Kevlar cordage or a much longer length of fishing line, fine dyneema line or maybe even dental floss. A mere 3 feet of cordage, even if it is 100 lb. test is not very useful.

Great review. Wish this was available.
A tin double the size of this tin is the minimum size I would advise most people to build the kit around.
Looks like a bit of a novelty kit, not sure I’d like to just have this one tin with me! . Would be a lot better with your extra items
I would definitely put the mirror tape on the outside, so you could signal with the tin closed and not risk dumping any of its content.
If his business card was one of those ones that you can soak in water and it would turn into a little sponge would have been really cool

And being able to easily access the inner strands is, almost certainly, why the ends weren't fused.
I would also have added needles thread fishing kit salt packet a few odds and ends that are tiny
