Some of the judges are incredibly bad. One of their jobs is to protect the inferior fighter. This includes recognising when he can no longer defend or protect himself.
I was thinking the same thing. I don't know the rules on some of these sports but it's obvious in a few that the guy is out cold on his feet several seconds before the ref steps in.
Not true. Judges job is to score the bout in case it goes to the scorecards.

@@mmaSlayer Thanks for your comment. I was expecting a lot of negative comments from Neanderthal types who really get off on violence and enjoy inflicting pain on others. I have 30 years of experience in martial arts but mindless violence never grabbed me. I've never seen the point of it. Many MMA fighters do respect their opponents, the rules and spirit of the competition and I certainly admire the level of skill displayed by MMA fighters, but like all sports it attracts certain types that are just wired differently. I remember watching one bout and one guy, who was obviously very talented, successfully submitted and choked his opponent out but as soon as the ref called it he proceeded to go all out on his unconscious opponent and laid into him with elbow strikes to the face. WTF? I was truly dumbfounded as to why he needed to do this.
