Not sure about the overwhelming favoritism for the Mavs. I've YET to see anybody point out how Dallas will defend the Celtics 5 out and mismatch hunting. I personally don't see Luka and Kyrie out scoring Boston's 5 out offense. Nor stopping it on defense. Dallas's defensive scheme has been to shrink the floor by sending guys off non-shooters into the driving lanes on the best scoring threats. This has only worked so far because literally all their matchups in the west have had literally one scoring threat with supporting guys like Towns, Dort, Holmgren going cold from 3 plus the fact those teams played non-shooters like Giddey and Anderson on the floor. The Celtics have at least 4 shooting and scoring threats that can also defend with the Mavs having 2-3 guys that can be hunted in pnr. Mismstch hunting for other teams hasn't work on the Mavs because the Mavs were basically free to send as much back side help as they wanted after the switch. If the Mavs send help on Boston from there it's 3 point city....unless the Celtics just go cold. Boston can also pretty much put any of their guys on the Mavs bigs since they don't score on mismatches. So mismatch hunting won't really be as effective for Luka. I personally don't think this is a good matchup for Dallas no matter how well Luka and Kyrie do.

I think Luke's 3point % suffered in the early parts of the playoffs cause of his knee and he's learned how to play through the pain which in game 2 of the wcf was apparent but he fought through it and put up monster numbers against the twolves
The problem with trying to shut down Luka, is that he scores by reflex. The only time you see him putting much thought into it, is when he's involving the rest of the team.
@@EliteLilTJ Ok? That wasn't really their point though. Boston has gotten one of the easiest cakewalks to the Finals that I can remember, Dallas has been through THREE 50+ win teams. You could argue the Mavs will be more worn down, but Luka has only gotten more healthy finally as we've gone on, ironically, no to mention this iteration of the team has only been together since the deadline and been steadily improving the entire time, and are absolutely bloodthirsty at this point. Them mfs are HUNGRY. Feels like Mavs/Heat 2011 type of situation, and either way, we're gonna see some damn good ball.
@@michaelhaydenbell I get that. Boston has definitely had a cake walk, but they have taken care of business like they should. They have been battle tested since 2017 when jaylen was a rookie in the ecf. Its the finals, everyone is gonna be ready to play
@@EliteLilTJ Celtics roster historically have more experience being in big playoff moments and knowing what it takes to win big games while the Mavericks this year have proved themselves much more in beating tough competition around the West and improving every single month. Both great teams "battle tested" in their own right.
When you play 41.5 minutes per game, "off the floor" stats lose pretty much all meaning, especially if it's a 17-game sample size. That's barely 100 and some minutes overall. But yeah, Kyrie helps, and the opponents subbing their best players out when Luka is off also helps.
Celtics will basically out score Luka/Kyrie. The regular season showed the blueprint don't let the Mavericks 'others' go off. Recall Luka had a near 40pt triple double vs the Celtics, but Boston still won. ❓❓❓Real question is how Dallas slow down Boston 5 out offense❓❓❓🤔
You mean like the thunder? Or have we forgot game 1 against the wolves who shot over 50% from 3 and took 3x more 3s than the Mavs and lost while the Mavs shot -30% from 3 as well? Like the Wolves, it will come down to clutch games and Ky and Luka have proven to be clutch time and time again.
The blueprint? 😂 The current mavs roster were together 2 weeks when they played each other in March... You remind me of the wolves fans thinking it will be a sweep because they won 3 out of 4 reg season games against the mavs 😂😂😂
He has soooo many tricks in his bag! Oppositions have to worry for both his shots and passings to the point even a stare to a teammate needs a proper response.
Pretty useless video to be honest. Basically saying that there is no answer for him. He looked much worse against the Clippers and OKC, not because of godlike defense which dropped his 3pt %, but mainly because he really looked injured. Especially against the OKC where he was fauled 3-4 times per play and the refs just ignored it, it got to his head and there were stretches where he put more energy towards the refs than the actual game. He was much much better in the refs department last 3 OKC games plus the whole Twolfes series. He won't make that mistake again. Focused Doncic just can't be stopped and it's just a matter of time before he wins his first ring. Generational talent.
@@ilearncode7365 my teens are watching because they are basketball players. They can learn a lot from this channel. Soon they will be able to apply everything learned here and make money.
I could be wrong but the Celtics main scoring guys are also their best defensive guys. Defending guys like Luka and Kyrie drains their legs which is why the Celtics are so up and down. Their best scorers have no legs sometimes to make shots. If this series isn’t over in 4 the Celtics will become very inefficient on offense by time game 5-7 comes .. now they will most likely have a really good shooting game in either 5 or 6 but 2 of 3 of those games will be bad shooting nights. Come back to this comment to see if I’m wrong, but Kyrie and Luka are no doubt giving their best effort on defense but they are not the main perimeter defenders. It happened to the clippers and the wolves. The thunder had Lou Dort to take that role and other guys so they were more successful but the Celtics aren’t very big and don’t have wing defenders outside of their 3 scorers. It’s the reason the Celtics have not broke through. Their GM has not added wing defenders to take that role for Tatum and brown. I don’t see the Celtics having enough depth to stop the Mavs consistently. And they won’t have the energy to make tough shots late in some games and especially late in a 7 game series
While Dort was allowed to do almost anything to Luka, Mavs couldn’t even look at SGA if they didnt want to give foul. If refs will do the same in final series (to either team!) this series is going to be over in 4 games.
7:11 coach he was also injured so that played a factor. I hope when Luka wins the finals he addresses everyone. Complains just as much as everyone else its just that yall hold him to standard yall don't hold anyone else too.
Luka is a real gangster, an actual killer. The refs do him dirty by not giving him the superstar calls. He is slowly but surely playing though the BS and just forgetting about it. This will make him even more dominant. He is so good, he can play though contact each and every time. This actually works to his advantage. It demoralizes his opponents when hack-a-luka doesn't have any effect. Go get 'em Luka!
You can’t let Luka think, so in order to do that Bos has to take him full court, they have to be physical as Luka doesn’t like contact, and they have to double him and let Kyrie be the one making decisions…
What Lu Dort was doing is not defense. Let's make that very clear. He was fouling every time and the refs were shielding their decisions on "let them be more physical" when there was no reason to.
The thing is ..the celtics might not be able to stop luka often BUT they have 4 guys that can drop 30 and and 2-3 that can play defense and drop a cool 15 🥶This series going to 7 games Im taking the mavericks tho
So basketball breakdown account is telling us that to stop Luka you need to: 1. Hit him in the face on the first possession to set up a stage 2. Then foul him on every other possession, but be really discreet about so the refs won't notice.
I feel like trapping him like the Warriors did in 2022 is the way to go, take the ball out of his hands and make him play defense. Force teammates like Derrick Jones Jr and PJ Washington to beat you, letting Luka set 100 pick n rolls and iso's a game wont let you win.
Yes, but trapping is a lot harder to do when Gafford and Lively can make plays, and Irving is way too good to send any help off of, While I like the mindset, I also don't believe that strategy would work as well as you might think
I think that’s an awful strategy, back in 2022 luka had basically no help and a roster not constructed towards his strengths at all, now if you try to trap him he will absolutely kill you
They’re going to play him 1 on 1 along with kyrie. Boston switches and have enough body for him. Him and kyrie will have to play their asses off and one can’t have a bad game. I have Boston in 5
Yet some people on certain podcast will say things like "Luka and kyrie arent skill players" ridiculous. Dort was out of hand, but focus on the game Luka. Always remember "play the game".
Ok Nick but tell me, can the Mavs get enough stops to win 4 games? They are facing the best offense in the NBA, not the 18th anymore... And we cannot forget, the Mavs cant hide Luka and Kyrie, they both are defensive liabilities...
Kawhi, PG, Westbrook, Dort, Williams, Gobert, Anthony Towns, Reid, didn’t shut Luka down with 2 bad knees, a bad Achilles, a bruised back, and a banged tooth. So who do you think is going to shut him down now?
Luka's on/off offensive rating? Let me quote what Jason Timpf said on his video. It sums up everything that Luka is. - "basketball is more art than science. no matter how hard you try, you can't solve the game of basketball. there's no way to parse it down to a number to add predictability or to make decision making easy for front offices or for coaching staffs or anything along those lines. there's an inherent kind of unsolvability to the game. this is not a knock against people trying to. if you are not trying to solve the game by employing the smartest analytical professionals, the analytics professionals that exist in the world, you're wasting a competitive advantage, but its a hopeless task at the end of the day in terms of actually perfecting that and the reason why is how do you account for what Luka Doncic did? how do you account for the fact that he walked into Minnesota and snatched their soul and then Minnesota just completely decomposed and forgot how to play basketball?"
1:03 was a push off. If it keeps the defender from getting back to defending the ball handler it's a push off. Besides the blatant carries, the push off is the most annoying thing about NBA basketball.
Never gets called, and every good offensive rim pressure player does it. Jaylen and Tatum especially. LeBron has been doing it for 20 years, really effective on a 265 lbs player.
@@Dave1691-j8p yeah you're right. But I still get annoyed that it never gets called because it gives the offense such an advantage. If the offensive player is allowed to use give stiff arms and shoves but the defender is not allowed to hand fight with them, they can go wherever they want. That is the most annoying part that it has become normalized. I know it's been going on since the 90s, so it would be a drastic change to go back to the old style of being more fair to defenders. But I think it would stop guys from flopping if they took away the stiff arms and shoves.
@@cordlc it was called an offensive foul more often and defenders could use a hand check in the 80s. Now it's more than protecting the ball. Ever since Jordan did it to win that championship, it happens on more than half of all drives to the basket
So basically to stop him you try to grab his jersey without the refs looking 😂

I think Luke's 3point % suffered in the early parts of the playoffs cause of his knee and he's learned how to play through the pain which in game 2 of the wcf was apparent but he fought through it and put up monster numbers against the twolves
The problem with trying to shut down Luka, is that he scores by reflex. The only time you see him putting much thought into it, is when he's involving the rest of the team.

Imagine if best friends Luka & joker teamed up with
I’ve been waiting man
Celtics are a great team but they haven't faced a team as good as the Mavs in the playoffs. Mavs in 6
And the mavs haven’t played a team good as Boston
@@EliteLilTJbattle tested but they cant beat a Lebron led Cavs , they took over the East until Lebron left . lol
Moe''s old precisely placed baseball bat to the knee trick oughta work.
Well I think finals are different than regular season my friend. I wouldn't be too sure about your blueprint.
Could be but the Celtics have shoot lights out for four games!!
The current mavs roster were together 2 weeks when they played each other in March... You remind me of the wolves fans thinking it will be a sweep because they won 3 out of 4 reg season games against the mavs 😂😂😂
People who point out regular season games are just ridiculous 😂 suns beat twolves in the regular season…
The team furthest south from the 38th parallel will win the series
He has soooo many tricks in his bag! Oppositions have to worry for both his shots and passings to the point even a stare to a teammate needs a proper response.
That's a funny clip of Kat complaining to the refs lol

So wheres Dort now?
Yo Coach Nick, that is a bold prediction
Secret to stop Luka is touch the balls, kick the balls, anything that'll hurt his balls 😂
Luka about to add to his adopted family
Luka better luck next time Boston win it all this year
You sure about that? 😂😂🤣
Your points are so spot on, that when you slip in the sponsor, don't get it until you mention it can win you money.. is that good or bad?
Contain him somewhat, sure. Shut him down? No way!
The thing is ..the celtics might not be able to stop luka often BUT they have 4 guys that can drop 30 and and 2-3 that can play defense and drop a cool 15 🥶This series going to 7 games Im taking the mavericks tho
The Celtics just pre-swtiched their lineup to hell for the past 3 games
8:38 the music started going double time
So basketball breakdown account is telling us that to stop Luka you need to:
1. Hit him in the face on the first possession to set up a stage
2. Then foul him on every other possession, but be really discreet about so the refs won't notice.
Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum locking up Luka, Kyrie and whoever in the Mavs.
Conclusion: Nobody can guard him!
Why everybody ignoring he was hurt vs okc and that okc had ref advantage😂
I feel like trapping him like the Warriors did in 2022 is the way to go, take the ball out of his hands and make him play defense. Force teammates like Derrick Jones Jr and PJ Washington to beat you, letting Luka set 100 pick n rolls and iso's a game wont let you win.
Yes, but trapping is a lot harder to do when Gafford and Lively can make plays, and Irving is way too good to send any help off of, While I like the mindset, I also don't believe that strategy would work as well as you might think
I think that’s an awful strategy, back in 2022 luka had basically no help and a roster not constructed towards his strengths at all, now if you try to trap him he will absolutely kill you
Yes let’s trap him so that he can pass it to Kyrie who’s gonna iso someone else or throw a lob to one of the bigs
They’re going to play him 1 on 1 along with kyrie. Boston switches and have enough body for him. Him and kyrie will have to play their asses off and one can’t have a bad game.
I have Boston in 5
@@judahmourneth3211 5? I doubt it.
So go under screens and make him shoot going to his left.. ahould help in his efficiency
Yet some people on certain podcast will say things like "Luka and kyrie arent skill players" ridiculous. Dort was out of hand, but focus on the game Luka. Always remember "play the game".
Easy: Let Wemby mature a bit. And then let him defend Luka. And dont let them play on the same team.
Ok Nick but tell me, can the Mavs get enough stops to win 4 games?
They are facing the best offense in the NBA, not the 18th anymore...
And we cannot forget, the Mavs cant hide Luka and Kyrie, they both are defensive liabilities...
something weird happens to the audio at around the 8:40 mark
If Luka is 90 %health and Ki is aggressive, the C's can't win IMO!!
YOU DON’T
Respect for being the only few to dare pick Mavs in 6.
Kawhi, PG, Westbrook, Dort, Williams, Gobert, Anthony Towns, Reid, didn’t shut Luka down with 2 bad knees, a bad Achilles, a bruised back, and a banged tooth. So who do you think is going to shut him down now?
THEY HAVE INDEED STOPPED LUKA 4 TIMES IN A WEEK
1:08 Luka Travels
NBA Finals (playoffs) is often a war of attrition. Much of the series outcome depends on Doncic's knee and Porzingis' calf...
So basically be the Celtics hey Bob breakdown should do a video and how they stopped and Kyrie it was history
The push off has been around since forever though, that isn't new
@@cordlc it was called an offensive foul more often and defenders could use a hand check in the 80s. Now it's more than protecting the ball. Ever since Jordan did it to win that championship, it happens on more than half of all drives to the basket
