I just got myself some kapo (karo) shaving cream and I really liked it. The level of slickness it provided was a pleasant surprise, will be in regular rotation.
The Bulgarian language is written in cyrillic alphabet, and the letter P is pronounced R. So, the cream is pronounced Karo. This is also evident by looking at the red diamond, one of the four suits in playing cards. This diamond is also called carreau in French or karo in German.
Interesting thing is that in this part of Europe (Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia) we have a pretty large choice of mass produced, solid performing, supermarket sold budget shaving creams. They all go for under a euro from the shelf. Still some hope for wet shaving in the left world. :)
Y qickly might see a re-birth of such items. Those countries just hv to make themselves 'known'. The western world is becoming sick of overpriced 'gimmicks' with such names. Living expense in the west exploding, whilst net income declining. What holds y back to attack such vast market, hungry for cheap n good enough!
Hi Kevy, nice to see you using a product from where I come from. When I smell this cream I think of my grandfather. It is the only cream he used. The cream has been around for quite some time. I think it is not as good as proraso but I always have a tub at home just for memory's sake. I was a teenager in the 90's and I remember helping my grandfather once with shaving because due to his mental condition he had forgotten how to shave.
Greetings from Bulgaria,Kevy. Glad you're using the legendary Karo - the vintage version was incredible in so many ways, the current is a bit on the cheap side, but still good. P.S. Karo means Diamonds(one of the four suits).
Goodness! Who would've guess such a spectacular cream would come from Bulgaria? The lather was rich, and creamy beyond compare. Cushion galore, and Cremo-like slickness too. The razor was also a surprise albeit mild, it was wrought with feedback and smoothness. To confess, I would never expect that from Dorco, It was a joy to hear you wax nostalgic about the park outings with your dad, and siblings. The days of innocence are always the most memorable. I had heard that James Riley had ceased producing soaps, but you confirmed the truth. His soaps are brilliant. I only own one I.S.P. soap. I will treasure it, and use it sparingly. 7,000+ subs ? What an enormous mountain you've become. I am beyond proud of your channel's fruition. I will continue my patronage as long as it exists. Thank you so much for the past years. My favorite episode is still the Robbie Burns Day shave. I rekindled my admiration of the supreme bard of the Scots. Cheer to you, mate. My warmest regards to Shona and Riley.
Thanks Alex. I have some cheap creams to try out from another European country soon. It always amazes me how well they perform and yet, they aren't seen in many SOTD pics. Good stuff. Cheers mate. Kevy 👍
Kev, glad you liked the Kapo cream. I have great results with this cream. I found it by a recommendation from a member with sensitive skin. Tried it and never looked back. My daily set up is Murkur 34c, Gillette Siover Blue or Gillette Wilkinson sword blade, Kapo cream, clubman aftershave and Arko balm. Awesome results every time.
Greetings from Bulgaria! I remember my father was using this so I bought one too. Nosesmasher already explained about its name. The company was founded in 1820s. I really like how it smells and lathers. Very good in my opinion! Great choice! I like this razor too but haven’t got one. Looks interesting! Thanks for this video, mate!
Really enjoyed that video Kevy and thanks for the mention . I am glad you agree that Yaqi razors and brushes give a good shave. I will try out the kapo cream too .I look forward to the next shave for me your humour and charm make this my number one shaving site .
Hi Kevy another great shave. That is a good looking razor. I enjoyed the story about your Dad taking you and your friends to the park, nice memories. We didn’t do seatbelts when I was a kid either. I use to lie down in the back above the seats and just inside the rear window just next to where the trunk meets up with the back window 😊. Have a great one till next time.
What great stories! Have you ever gone back to that park now that you're an adult? I remember a lot of those times, too. I had a really good childhood, too (from what I can remember). I remembering going to the lake and fishing and playing by the shorelines and picnics, etc. There's a place not too far from me that My Da and I would go for a long weekend. We'd go with my best friend and his Da. We'd camp in tents and fish and cook out and ride bikes, etc., etc. Yeah, good times. Have a great weekend, Kevy. Much love to you, Mrs Kevy, and Riley!
I haven't been back to the park in over 30 years Jack. It might be houses now! I hope not. I might try to visit there this summer. Thanks for sharing your stories here, much appreciated. Kevy 😀👍
Kapo is one of several European shaving creams I picked up a year or two back, and I've found it to be a very solid performer that is essentially a bargain for what you get.
Fantastic video and shave my friend. What an awesome story too. Brings me back to the weekends with my dad. Thanks for the memories Kevy. Take care and cheers.
Bit late to comment on that one, but great shave! Karo is super cheap, yet good enough. It's in my rotation of soaps and creams, especially because I live in Bulgaria and can buy it anywhere. Good stuff indeed! Greetings!
Nice video, always a pleasure to watch. Not sure if you know this but Grace is actually a (very kind) lady working at Yaqi and managing their Facebook group and pr. Not sure if the handle was designed by her or tributed to her.
I used it in my shavette. When I first started wet shaving. Recommended by my barber. I have only tried 3 different blades Wilkinson sword a feather and blue beards revenge. I am currently using a Edwin Jagger de89 and occasionally use my shavette Wilkinson sword aren't very good in my shavette can't go against the grain. Blue beards blades are able to do a better job but all are great in the de89. And haven't dared to use a feather in my shavette.
Hey, Kevy. Because the name of the cream is written in Cyrillic it reads Karo, not Kapo. P in Slavic languages is R in the Germanic group of languages to which English belongs. This cream is a classic product and has been around since early seventies, if I am correct, though the current manufacturer, Rubella is not the original producer of the product. This cream also has other versions, blue(sensitive) and green(menthol) which surpass the red in moisturizing properties. The red is a tad on a dry side imho. As for other Bulgarian products, check out a very nice great smelling cream/aftershave lotion Rose of Bulgaria, Top Ten shave cream, and a line of Agressia shave creams. Great products holding their own against more expensive stuff!
Great Shave Kevy! I put a loin roast in the oven as you we asking what we were doing. You brought back many childhood memories of the lake we would go to as kids. Celebrated my son's 25th birthday yesterday with him. Time fly's when you're living life... ;-)
Nicely done Sir Kevy, great shave💈💈 The Kapo cream looked like it worked good. I have several "dual open comb" razors, aggressive looks but smooth shaves👌 Good story about the park. Hahaha, love the burn from the splash, eye opener for sure😲 Another fun video and review👍 Enjoy!
Kev y have you ever been back to that park since you have grown older ? (notice I didn't say grown up for good reason). How about a shave from there ? Great video as always ,you always make me smile :)
Great video, You are the king of lathers. Really enjoyed your story. Reminds me of going to carnoustie or broughtyferry with my family on a Sunday. Great close shave. I received Dr Harris Windsor and used it this morning great scent and nice lather. Cheers for the shout out. I used the g day mate pre shave face scrub I love the scent. Have a great weekend Kevy and look forward to your next video. Gordon Christie 😜👍
About a year ago, I started wet shaving, and the reason I started with it actually occurred in a Dundee Asda. I was on holidays, we stayed at the golf park, piperdam, real nice. I ran out of cartridge Gillette blades, so my wife went to asdas to get me some more. She came back with a great deal on Wilkinson's only 15 pound for 5 cartridges 😉. OK, maybe a little but less, but still, not really a great deal of you're a wet shaver. So I tried the Wilkinson's and had a terrible shave, unacceptable. At that point I said, there has to be something else than this. Unfortunately only after we got home to the Netherlands I really got into it and bought my first DE razor. We actually visited the hms unicorn, which is literally around the corner from the Gentleman's Groom Room. Only if I knew then that I know now, I would have brought home a lot more souvenirs 😊.
Hey Rolf. What a brilliant story. Piperdam is a beautiful area to visit. I'll bet you're glad your wife bought you those cartridge blades frm Asda now?! 😂 You guys will need to revisit this area to get your souvenirs from The Gentleman's Groom room! Thanks for sharing that great story. Kevy 👍
Thanks for sharing. Great shave! Some of the fun with wet shaving is trying different soaps/creams from different places! I picked up a Ralon shaving cream i Croatia last autumn - very cheap but very good!
Looks like the Yaqi Melon or The Beast will see how the shave goes which eg mild or aggressive I use the Melon head when shaving while I am away from home
Great shave. Great stories Kevy. You’ve convinced me to just go and use my OSP orange and patchouli soap and aftershave. Might even go and find some stream water! 🤣 All the best! 👍🏻
Hey Kevy, I hope this finds you and yours well. I was wondering if you could please give your opinion and/or preference between the Rockwell 6c and the Merkur 38c/34c as I once again have the hardware bug. I was thinking about the 37c/39c but came to the conclusion that my growth isn't heavy enough for the slants. By the way, it's not a stream, it's a burn. (Don't bend for the sasanachs). 😁
6C is a much better choice. I guarantee it will not leave your shave den if you buy one. It's so versatile and is always comfortable to use. Yes, it is a burn but I didn't want to confuse them by thinking I was drinking fire! 😂😀👍 Cheers. Kevy
I have been considering the muhle r41 I watched your video when used the 2nd one you bought. Looks as if it does a great job. Been a bit hesitant though just by what Kensurfs says about it.
It's a good razor but,it does take so,e getting used to. It really does test your technique out. If you got one and didn't like it, they're usually quite easy to sell on. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Great video as always Kevy. Just tried a Dorco blade yesterday and found them to be a fairly sharp blade although could be a bit smoother. My facial hair is quite course and the blade seemed to be dulling by the end of the third pass. Will find out on the second shave if they stand up. Have a good weekend.
Good cream there kevy. I'll need to see if I can get some. I have to remind myself at times that there are good and really cheap creams out there. Here in Singapore, we have an Inport / Export store that sells stuff from India and a Tube of Godrej shaving cream cost only like S$2.90 (£1.65) and is quite good, especially the ones in the blue tube. Its mentholated with a scent that's a mix of eucalyptus and lime. It's doesn't leave the face feeling moisturized but then again its not an artisan soap but it does the job and does it well. I do love my artisan soaps though. :) As for the Dorco blades, I think the consensus is that the ones made in Vietnam are better then the Korean made ones unless its the Korean Dorco Primes. The problem might be a bad manufacturing run / non-QC checking done and results from the Korean factory came out inconsistent.
Nice shave Kevy. I have always wanted a double open comb razor. I am waiting for the PAA Accession to be back in stock. Any other DOC razors you would recommend. Thanks for the good stories.
Your childhood reminiscences show how good life was before the health and safety goons came along! Skateboards, BMXs, knick knacks and stone fights and a little time granted on the Atari only if you had chicken pox or some other lamentable illness - proper childhood 👍
That razor looked beautiful and terrifying initially, but you looked like an effortless shave without 'incident'. How did you find the slickness of the cream compared to the Proraso? Where's the park?... Oh and you're going straight to hell!🤣 We used to get our fresh water straight from Loch Shiel when we were up in Acharacle. Who needs filtration?
I was the same back in Dundee can’t remember the park might have been Fife way Yes if you attended Sunday school all year you got presented with a hard cover book with little sticker in front cover “Perfect Attendance “ The Church didn’t really care there were always heaps left 🤣🤣 Should have waited to the end they were giving plates of them away 🤣🤣
Brilliant John. That might have been Craigton park just over the water in Fife. The one I was talking about was Kerrie den up in Kirriemuir. Great times. Cheers mate. Kevy 😀👍
Told my wife I’m watching kevy shave his nut house. Didn’t go over very well perhaps a different slogan would be suffice! Lmao jk im not even married! Great shave man 👍🏻! Off to watch Donald younger wet the ace! 😂 😆 too easy!
Aaah..! But doesn't this mean you've just broken your new year's resolution/commitment NOT to buy more shaving soap 'software' for you have plenty to keep clean shaven the entire male Yeti population in the Himalayas for the next 10 yrs? Well not to worry, and welcome to our club of shaving soap software new year's resolution breakers. Right now, I'm like a shark circling around a Kapo shaving cream purchase from Bulgaria..esp. since you said it wasn't that xpensive. Tara Kevy :)
Yeah, we had a good childhood, running in german forests, hide n seek, kissing girls in the shadow, too. Here in modern Singapore its different. ids wear spectacles at 6, with 10 they're absolute PC freaks, abnormal knowledge (PC). Climbing trees etc? No chance, too dangereous, that sort of thing... A pitty.
Ahh but you had to be from the older generation in Singapore. Catching Spiders, playing in Monsoon Drains with the fear of being swept away if there's heavy rains (happened to some kids) catching guppies from same drains, running away from Pythons you see in the fields and spiders the size of a small cat. Sadly though, for us wet shavers, the pickings are thin here. Thankfully, there's Amazon and freight forwarders in the US for most of the artisan soaps I buy.
Hej Steven, of course we speak of 'modern Singapore'. Its likely vry similar in todays Germany, my birthplace. Guppies becoming frogs, nice to remember. Mny hv no chance to, but maybe playing the latest computer game is similar, yet I wudnt switch. Cheers.

Hi Jonathan. It looks aggressive but it really isn't. It's a lovely smooth shaving razor. Kevy 👍

Nice vid. 👍🏼 We used to drink out of the garden hose as kids and we turned out fine. 🤪🥴😄 You have a cool personality. 😎😁
😂😀👍
Nice shave Kevy. I have always wanted a double open comb razor. I am waiting for the PAA Accession to be back in stock. Any other DOC razors you would recommend. Thanks for the good stories.
Parker make some nice double open combs. Good prices on them too. Cheers. Kevy 👍
It's spring, so it's time for a Piacenzaaa shave! 😂
Ha ha!!
Your childhood reminiscences show how good life was before the health and safety goons came along! Skateboards, BMXs, knick knacks and stone fights and a little time granted on the Atari only if you had chicken pox or some other lamentable illness - proper childhood 👍
Spot on John. Don't forget being off school sick and getting a Roy Of The Rovers comic!😀😂👍
That razor looked beautiful and terrifying initially, but you looked like an effortless shave without 'incident'. How did you find the slickness of the cream compared to the Proraso?
Where's the park?... Oh and you're going straight to hell!🤣
We used to get our fresh water straight from Loch Shiel when we were up in Acharacle. Who needs filtration?
The razor was great, quite mild. The cream is just as slick as Proraso. The park was Kirrie den up in Kirremuir. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
very good))KAPO
What car did ur parents have, we had Morris marina :o)
It was a Wolseley car. I cant remember which model it was. Great times. Kevy 😀
’Whoaaa, what a burn!’ - wait, what, is this NOT Kensurfs?
Ha ha!
I was the same back in Dundee can’t remember the park might have been Fife way
Yes if you attended Sunday school all year you got presented with a hard cover book with little sticker in front cover “Perfect Attendance “ The Church didn’t really care there were always heaps left 🤣🤣
Should have waited to the end they were giving plates of them away 🤣🤣
Brilliant John. That might have been Craigton park just over the water in Fife. The one I was talking about was Kerrie den up in Kirriemuir. Great times. Cheers mate. Kevy 😀👍
Yep that’s it in those days not a lot of families had cars hence The Sardines in a tin scenario 🤣🤣yes it was Craigton park
Told my wife I’m watching kevy shave his nut house. Didn’t go over very well perhaps a different slogan would be suffice! Lmao jk im not even married! Great shave man 👍🏻! Off to watch Donald younger wet the ace! 😂 😆 too easy!
Lol 😂😂
😂❤️🇧🇬
Sounds like you had a great Dad....
Buetyful razor buetyful especially that it’s black
Ah...yes...about that resolution...! 😂
Cheers.
Kangaroo poo!
