Wow, I couldn't even remember what racing game I used to play as a kid on our family laptop, and here it is (I wasn't sure until I saw that loading screen with the cars). You've really thrown me back to growing up with these weird promotional games in the 2000s. I know I'm not exactly old, but I wonder what on earth a kid born in 2015 would have thought about our period's offerings of games and internet, I had dial-up till 2008 in rural England. It almost makes you feel lost even talking to people only a few years younger than me as so much changed so quickly.
I'm right with ya buddy, grew up with kazaa, exeem, shareaza, emule2k, winMX, limewire, and then suprnova. Things really do change so fast it's insane.
I know this video is over a year old, but I grew up playing Chex Quest for hours and hours. And the interestingly still active modding community also helps to keep it alive with new content.
I had this same exact Nestle branded disc as a kid. One bit of additional info on the game's team: Dave Sullivan, the sound designer, previously worked on Magnetic Fields (as a composer), then Mind's Eye Productions, Razorworks, and briefly at Juice Games. Today, he works at Codemasters.
Such an old video of yours, still at such a high quality. You touched my heart once again, it definitely feels like we shared our childhood. You really touched my heart.
Congrats on 500!! I remember the gansito marinela brand released a platformer with their food mascots in one of their packages and i used to play it for hours. Aah i miss the days of no money gaming hahaha
Holy shit, this is relatable. back in mid-2006 I got Ford Racing 3 on a cereal box. It was really especial for me since here in LATAM having games on Cereal.Boxes wasn't really common, toys and few collectobles yes, but not PC CD ROM Games. been watching you since yesterday and I'm honestly getting into your content, I really enjoy your content and I hope to see more.
I remember mother bought this game in 2008 on my 9th birthday. I've always been a huge fan of Ford cars, so this was the first game that called my attention, along with The Simpsons Hit and Run (which I already had on the GameCube lol). It's a good part of my late 00's/early 10's memories and it's very cheap on the PS2 version, just under $5, so I bought it back.
Watching this reminds me of a promotion we had over here in Kuwait, back when I lived there. I remember, around 2012, Hardees, or some other chain restaurant had bundled their burgers with a copy of Backyard Skateboarding for desktops with a bunch of huge skateboarding legends [just as kids] (an Atari game, if my memory serves me right) and the concept of getting a PC game disk blew my mind at the time. I do miss the really weird and wacky ways they could promote or distribute games with physical media that just doesn't feel right in the digital era anymore. But, I digress! Really good video about a rather niche topic. And that's why I keep coming back for more of these videos!
I had the PS2 copy of this game and Ford Racing Off-Road, and both were actually a very big part of my childhood despite being budget games and likely why I love Fords as much as I do, Ford Racing Off-Road even got a damage model implemented, Need For Speed games like Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground 1 were some of my first games but I still played the heck out of the 2 Ford Racing games I got my hands on
Wow, I just remembered the fleeting memory I have of playing this on my dad's laptop when I was like 3. Moved on to Gran Turismo 4 shortly after though
Empire also had a range anyone that grew up in the UK during the early 2000's will remember; Xplosiv. These Xplosiv PC games were in every other shop, and usually super cheap so you were more likely to find success with the parents if you were to sneak it into the shopping trolley. Ford Racing 2 was actually one of the really great Xplosiv titles, though it seemed like nobody ever knew which game I was talking about years afterwards. Occasionally Xplosiv would get something really good which wasn't from Empire directly, like Midtown Madness 2. Actually now I see the XPLOSIV brand is even advertised in the game itself, I had forgotten about that.
My unlcle had Need for Speed 2 in his high end PC and i wanted to play it so bad, i remember buying the cereal just to get Ford Racing 2 on my PC to satisfying that NFS2 need for sooo many hours. I clicked on this video so fast when i read the title. Notifications definitely activated. 👍👍👍
I remember getting this from cereal. I also remember a very rudimentary flight simulator promo game, crazy taxi which was loads of fun and a starsky and hutch game that I played way too much
Microsoft's Flight Simulator X demos from cereal boxes. There were 4 of them, each with its own cd. Ancient childhood memories for sure. You can find downloads to executables of those demos online easily, but I can't seem to be able to get any of them running.
The first time I played it, I was in my aunts house that had a PlayStation 2 and this game. I would play the hell out of that game whilst not talking to anyone else since I was so invested in just playing the game. Additionally, it made me love the Ford gt40. That car is my child.
The first game I played after we got the first home PC. No internet. I always loved cars but the free FR2 got me in love with them. I collected all 4 games through the cereals (except TIR, got that through a friend). I'll never forget this game. To the developers: Thank you
I had Ford Racing 3 as a kid, and (despite also having Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec - I was terrible at that game) it was basically my Gran Turismo growing up. Maybe more accurately my Forza. It felt realistic enough to stand out without breaking my balls, showed a genuine love for cars young/old/weak/strong/small/big I'd never been able to appreciate before, and probably awakened my obsession with collecting EVERY toy a game lets you play with. It's a weirdly important game to me, and I love it.
Back in 2003, I had a pc that barely ran this game. during races, it was fine. But in the desert stages when there were a lot of cars on the screen, the game would lag. Now that I have found a way to play this game on Windows 10, I decided to revisit it. And I absolutely loved it. Bought back so many memories. Never saw this game as a budget title.
Total Immersion Racing and Ford Racing 2 are two of my favorite childhood games. I played them so often and even today I complete TIR and FR2 once a year because its so much fun to get back to these classics 😁
This game and the intro song (Cyberchrist, from Pivit, btw) have been burned in my memory since I played them as I child, the memories of the countless afternoons playing it are still there. Truly nostalgic
The ending hit me so hard. As in latvia about that time getting new games was so hard. Every demo disc from magazines was cherish3d and passed down friends multiple times.
The cereal way was one of the only ways I gamed on my windows XP trash box, well that and cartoon network/other fan flash games. Thanks for reminding me of this!
I also got this game and TiR from a cereal box in the mid 2000s, my sister and I play FR2 a lot. A few years ago i installed it back on my laptop and even recorded and uploaded a few races on my youtube channels, since then very recently started a Total Immersion Racing playtrough.
Ghaddaaamn i played this game a heck ton when i was a kid just playing on my dads pc. Man nostalgia hit me in the face, this vid hit me back to the 2005
R.I.P. - My cereal box PC version of "Ford Racing 2" I had for a whole life along with "Starsky & Hutch: Video Game", "T.I.M" and "Crazy Taxi " :( (At least I still have those other 3 cereal box games... and PS2 Version of "FR2") I always loved playing this game on dad's PC and it felt satisfying finally finishing those darn Stock Cars. They're total hard speed freaks! Also, this game was the first that taught me that "background animations" exist (I was little baby back then, playing shareware games. I was stunned with surprise).
03:36 & 06:49 I got "Crazy Taxi" in a Nestlé cereal, also, later "GP vs. Superbike", too. 💿 ● I liked "Crazy Taxi", but I played it with switched off music (it's not my style), but yeah, I had a lot of fun. 🚕 ● "GP vs. Superbike" is a racing game, where racing cars and bikes can be selected to do races with them, usually against your own time. 🏎 🏍 Back then, I couldn't do much than do laps on my own, because I didn't knew English, so I just navigated the bit complex menu via just trying stuff... 😁
Ahh yeah cereal box games. The only one I recall playing was the Captain Crunch game where you have to raise crunchlings like some knock off Tamagotchi or something. :P I still have the CD to that game. The cool thing about it is it was a PC/Mac hybrid CD so could play it on Macintosh computers too! :D
Probably one of the only games I ever made a total 180 of what my opinion on it was. I had this game as a kid, not from a cereal box on PC (My brother's PC could barely handle 3D anyway), but on the PS2. I used to HATE and I mean HATE this game when I was kid. I thought the idea of the challenges was stupid and I just wanted to do plain races which you can't do without unlocking the tracks & cars from the challenge mode first. Through my now adult lens I'm far more fond of it now. Mainly because the handling model is pretty satisfying and the challenges are a good test of your driving (which wouldn't work if the driving itself felt bad). Clearly Razorworks knew what they were doing and knew their limitations when it came to making a budget game. Ford Racing 3 was pretty cool too, but I can't speak about any of the other Ford games. It also helps that FR2 still surprisingly scales nicely to modern PCs. The game relies on WMA playback so you'll need to install the Windows Media Source Filter on newer versions of Windows, but aside from that it runs flawlessly with 1080p and 144fps support right out the gate.
I still have the Original Xbox version, and honestly, for a budget racing game from 2003, this game is exceptional in many aspects. The physics in my eyes are some of the best I've ever played with, and Indian Sping Speedway (International/National Race Track) might be my favourite fictional race track of all time! I've not played it in years, but I'm considering revisiting it after watching this!
I never played Ford Racing, but you briefly mentioned FlaOut. So while listening to the video I opened Steam and saw FlatOut 2, my childhood racing game, was dirty cheap 80% off because of the summer sale. Thanks to you I got to have a small nostalgic trip today, so thank you.
I have recentrly found your channel its hard to asociate a young little girl talking about old pc games with all the references jokes and research like CGR, LRG, metal yisus or game sack. I love your channel Greetings from Argentina
This reminds me that the game Street Legal Racing: Redline used to be given out free with Pizza Hut / Dominos purchases, or at least that's what some people said on the online forums back in the day. I really miss when food companies did this. Also, I like your channel! You seem to be one of the few creators that has interests that line up with mine. You got a sub from me! If you're interested in covering another budget racing game, check out Street Legal Racing: Redline. It's really crappy, but it has really in depth car building features that keep many coming back to it all these years later.
This reminded me of how the Australian music producer Flume began making music as a kid with a software CD from a Kellogg’s Nutrí Grain cereal box! I think it was called Andrew G’s Music Maker.
Both Ford Racing 2 and 3 were translated into Estonian and sold as budget titles. We didn't have the luxury of getting the game in a cereal box, Nestle sent some real piles of crap for us instead later on. Ford Racing 2's Estonian localization has a prominent Estonian actor Raivo E. Tamm as the announcer, which is a really surprising choice. I haven't seen much Ford Racing 2 disc's being sold on the aftermarket lately but the 3rd game was printed way too much and can be found still in plastic wrapping on Estonian internet marketplaces. Since I cover Estonian game localizations, I have played both versions and I liked the 2nd release much more than the 3rd one, newer version feels like a downgrade in many aspects. Enjoyed the video and I have been binge watching your channel lately, the topics are fun and interesting.
Definitely know cereal boxes are how i played the Windows versions of Boggle, Yahtzee, Monopoly Jr, Clue but also stuff like the minigame collection with Timon and Pumbaa, the first two RCT games and a ton more games i can't remember off the top of my head.
NFS II, Total Immersion Racing, and this, playing those 3 games since I was a little kid made me love cars, racing and PC games for the rest of my life... I'm glad I got recommended this video, it really took me down memory lane, and yes, I got my Ford Racing 2 copy from a cereal box!! Subscribed!
Holy shit, you still have the disk! For some reason I was obsessed with these things when I was ten years old, so consider me surprised and ecstatic when I found the disk image on the Internet Archive. (The only one that I think hasn't been archived was Total Immersion Racing, or at least I couldn't find it.)
I had the Ford Racing 2 and 3 in PS2, but also I remembered a year's after I got FR3 in cereal from Kelloggs, in fact I thought that were done, but seems the most fun of allf from the Detroit manufacturer
Recently started getting your videos recommended to me, I have been enjoying them all. When this vid started with Digital Insanity it sent shivers down my spine. Subscribed!
I still have my Chex Quest CD! i got it out of the cereal box and i played that game constantly. i had regular Doom, and i even had the Aliens total conversion, but i still loved the Chex version lol
This was a great video! I only ever played Ford Racing 3 on PS2 as a kid. It was one of few games my dad would play, and it was great to be able to play games with him at that age. Kinda wanna revisit it and see if the racing is still compelling. I never really got games in cereal boxes, except Tony Hawk 2, and I used to play that so much on my old PC
The cereal games I remember are Marine Park Empire, and a Pink Panther one (can't remember the full name). My brother loved those games and we still have an old "official" cd around the house
I remember getting GP vs. SuperBike on one of my Koko Krunch boxes, among a few other non-racing games. Nowadays I'm aware of its status as a crappy game among everyone else, but when I was little, I enjoyed spending some time playing it on my computer.
I had ejay but never knew what it was as I was just a kid. I remember getting Ford Racing 2 and Starksy & Hutch, Total Immersion Racing wouldn't play for me, but my favourite was Crazy Taxi
360p gang here! (Time to let it be processed :D) Man, are you cereal? if I knew I could've gotten the Starsky & Hutch game from a cereal box I would've been first in line to eat those day in, day out. I think it's a huge shame games don't tend to often release demos these days, but on the bright side, I have seen Ubisoft come out with more trials recently. Even Driver: San Francisco (on consoles) had a demo, but it's not accessible anymore, at least on PS3. PC was completely disregarded as well. This is a nice segue as well, to how special it was with the damage modelling on the amount of licensed cars it had, also probably why it's no longer on sale anywhere. For an older game from '03, Ford Racing 2 looks cool though, from vehicle modelling (CROWN VIC :O) and environment standpoint. Those tracks are especially cool. Doesn't really hold a candle to its peers but, until now I hadn't even heard about it so nice job with the vidya.
That Driver San Francisco demo was what made me fall in love with the game back then: played hours and hours of it just to listen to the unique car dialogues :'
@@f4micom Definitely same here, it was absolutely addicting. Originally it was to have twice as many character scripts as well, but this ended up in the cutting room so they could hit their deadline.
Back then the only reason i bought cereal from the back of a Family Frost van is to get the Ford Racing series. I can't even remember the cereal brand that came with Ford Racing CD in Hungary ;) Now i have them on Steam and play them from time to time in Ultrawide ^_^
With as many racing sims as we have access to these days, I like games that put an emphasis on fictional circuits. It's the main reason why I only played the new Forza for about a week. Nothing about the game was remarkable compared to other sims I have, and at least in old Forza games (particularly FM3 for me) the fictional circuits were the most memorable part. In the new one, they're all kinda boring. Every racing game now is trying to do more or less the same thing, so they all blur together. I have more respect for an old budget racing game that can at least set itself apart in that way.
Cereal box games are really underrated. I still have my copies of Ford Racing 2, Total Immersion Racing, Alone in the Dark (from Kellogg's) and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, along with promotional disks for Bionicle and LOTR. I also have a few eJay CDs! I'm sad that I missed the Starsky & Hutch and Crazy Taxi games... But I can always get digital copies.
I loved these cereal box games. Manny where really bad but there where some real gems there. I had snowmobile racing game that was really good and a theme park / building simulator that was crazy good. I also remember Nutella having a mini disk in the lid of the jar.
I still remember everyone in my childhood class playing this game and then Football Tigers from kellogg's. Here in Italy we had also some really popular games from the Kinder-Ferrero company, what a throwback! Ps. For just a moment i thought you were italian too ahahhaha
I literally had no idea that Age of Empires was released at one point as a cereal game. That's amazing.
thats how i originally played it! haha
Wow
Modding community it a game like that is something special
I immediately bought the remake/remaster for my Switch when it dropped. I had no idea there was a modding community around it. Fantastic!
I had this same exact Nestle branded disc as a kid. One bit of additional info on the game's team:
Dave Sullivan, the sound designer, previously worked on Magnetic Fields (as a composer), then Mind's Eye Productions, Razorworks, and briefly at Juice Games. Today, he works at Codemasters.
me too
Such an old video of yours, still at such a high quality. You touched my heart once again, it definitely feels like we shared our childhood. You really touched my heart.
Congrats on 500!! I remember the gansito marinela brand released a platformer with their food mascots in one of their packages and i used to play it for hours. Aah i miss the days of no money gaming hahaha
I absolutely love Tim Follin's music.
Holy shit, this is relatable.

I actually had one of those E-Jay music software things. It sparked my interest in making music that is still going 15 years later.
I’m a sucker for concept cars! Seeing tons of Ford concept cars is amazing!
Watching this reminds me of a promotion we had over here in Kuwait, back when I lived there. crazy taxi 3 is a good title too
Loved your channel! BTW, I checked your Twitter and found about your unhealthy obsession for strange/quirky European cars, I totally became a fan!
I'd just like to congratulate the person who came up with the name ILLEGAL STREET DRAG (midnight outlaw) (14:55)
this video made me nostalgic

In case you didn't know, they also used songs from this game in Crazy Taxi 3, but only on the PC port though
finally a video about an actually good game
.
.
glad to see a lot of people also love this game
The ending hit me so hard. As in latvia about that time getting new games was so hard. Every demo disc from magazines was cherish3d and passed down friends multiple times.
I already loved your channel, but finding out that you’re into cars is the cherry on top! Keep up the great work 👍
I'm so happy i found your channel, finally some nostalgic content i can relate to as a european.

actually found you at random while looking at ford racing content but i must say im glad you did your content is quite good quality keep it up
I still remember getting this in cereal here in Australia. nice video, subbed and shared with our retro community. :)
Only seeing this now, but this explains how my family got the Starsky & Hutch game.
Probably one of the only games I ever made a total 180 of what my opinion on it was. Wow. From 500 subs to 40 thousand. Somebody blew up!
ford racing 2 was one of the first racing games i played, back then, out of a cereal box, i miss those times
I have recentrly found your channel its hard to asociate a young little girl talking about old pc games with all the references jokes and research like CGR, LRG, metal yisus or game sack.
I love your channel
Greetings from Argentina
That intro song is cyberchrist by pivit. Its such a banger.
Thank you for the song. I was sure I've heard this riff somewhere else
I had just finally purged the Reese’s puffs commercial rap from my mind after so many years and now it’s back 😂
this video appeared in my recommended, really enjoyed playing ford racing. wish you all the best

You reminded me the firs time that I got in touch with Microsoft Flight Simulator in a Chocapic cereal box in Latin America.
Glad to see someone knowing that Flatout exist, it was my childhood.
was not expecting the internet comment etiquette reference

Damns I had been thinking about that Ford cereal racing game since 2003! It an in my family computer like a slideshow back then
Both Ford Racing 2 and 3 were translated into Estonian and sold as budget titles.

As usual, funny, interesting and different. And congrats for the 500 subs :)
I remember playing a game called Starsky&Hutch with my cousin.... Man, good times...
Nice video! I was looking for some old fashion racing game to play and this one looks like something that I need.
1:02 I remember Nutella putting a mini-CD into the glass lid with demo games in Germany around 2001.
I first discovered you through your IMBNES video and have been a fan ever since!
Subscribed!
The best adaptation of a board game to a video game I've ever played was a PC version of Clue that I got in a box of Cheerios back in the day
Probably the first game I finished, I got it on a cereal box as well and I still got it at home 🖤
Holy shit, you've dug up a children gaming memory that my brain has removed, nostalgia at it's best, thank you for that!
I still have my Chex Quest CD! i got it out of the cereal box and i played that game constantly. i had regular Doom, and i even had the Aliens total conversion, but i still loved the Chex version lol
My favourite cereal game in Australia was from Milo cereal. It was called "Milo - the fuel run"
From 500 subscribers to over 40k. Holy shit. Congrats; just got recommended this and it was a great watch.
(Time to let it be processed :D)
Man, are you cereal? if I knew I could've gotten the Starsky & Hutch game from a cereal box I would've been first in line to eat those day in, day out.
Originally it was to have twice as many character scripts as well, but this ended up in the cutting room so they could hit their deadline.
always nice to see people talk about this game. great job yo.
I love this game,i played it so much on my xp computer, and i tried to find a version that work on windows 10 and now i can replay it
saw two of your videos and im impressed with the content, subscribed!!
Back then the only reason i bought cereal from the back of a Family Frost van is to get the Ford Racing series. I can't even remember the cereal brand that came with Ford Racing CD in Hungary ;)
Now i have them on Steam and play them from time to time in Ultrawide ^_^
With as many racing sims as we have access to these days, I like games that put an emphasis on fictional circuits. It's the main reason why I only played the new Forza for about a week. Nothing about the game was remarkable compared to other sims I have, and at least in old Forza games (particularly FM3 for me) the fictional circuits were the most memorable part. In the new one, they're all kinda boring. Every racing game now is trying to do more or less the same thing, so they all blur together. I have more respect for an old budget racing game that can at least set itself apart in that way.
OMG FORD RACING 2 my literal childhood
Cereal box games are really underrated. I still have my copies of Ford Racing 2, Total Immersion Racing, Alone in the Dark (from Kellogg's) and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, along with promotional disks for Bionicle and LOTR. I also have a few eJay CDs!
I'm sad that I missed the Starsky & Hutch and Crazy Taxi games... But I can always get digital copies.
Don't forget the robots games that came in Pop-Tart boxes I used to love those
I loved these cereal box games.
Manny where really bad but there where some real gems there.
I had snowmobile racing game that was really good and a theme park / building simulator that was crazy good.
I also remember Nutella having a mini disk in the lid of the jar.
This game just have a special place in my heart
Same, european dude, ford racing 2 was my favorite game as a kid
I still remember everyone in my childhood class playing this game and then Football Tigers from kellogg's. Here in Italy we had also some really popular games from the Kinder-Ferrero company, what a throwback!
Ps. For just a moment i thought you were italian too ahahhaha
You mentioned an Escort. Like. That's the first car I ever owned. Finally, someone else remembers those things exist ;_;
I'm a little too young to remember cereal games, but I did get at least 1 PC game in a happy meal.
I miss cereal box games, that was _the shit_ back in the day.
