Yeah, the cashier butting in would have pissed me off. Gotta wonder what makes some people think a thing is any of their business! We want kids to be like this… not colorblind, but fully accepting of any color they see. There’s no shame in the skin color, only the way people act about it.
But you know, sometimes people just say the wrong thing... I've said stupid things/lost all my charm out of feelings like anxiety. Maybe the cashier wasn't racist at all and/or maybe what she said was incorrectly recounted, was taken out of context, or was not aligned with her better intentions... it sure made for a great viral video didn't it. Imo Have mercy on people who make mistakes. We don't have to hate anyone to be happy for the little girl's good way of being. We don't have to create a villain so that we can turn another human being into a hero/idol in a story.
@@freshs.273 And sometimes people just say exactly what they mean. I don’t know if you’re projecting or what, but to go into an exhaustive summary of trying to excuse or minimize what was said by the cashier is unfortunate. It has nothing to do with not having grace or mercy on others, but a call out on inappropriate behavior. Exchange pleasantries with your customers and ring up their purchases is all that’s really required or expected from a cashier.
@@Blessed-tn1wd btw I'm a mixed Hispanic and African American man. I just don't go around ruining people's days and getting mad over words that cant touch me. You get offended over long comments (only 5 sentences...)? Well I get offended over people who use this covert method of bullying. Intention is everything and we don't have the context to know the cashier's intention. I am an imperfect judge, "Blessed", so I withhold my judgment. Edit: and you say a cashier is there to keep quiet... that's almost on the same level of socially offensive/"inappropriate" as what the cashier said imo. They are free to speak to others and find ways to enjoy their poor-paying job.
@@freshs.273 Sir, please explain whose day was ruined? We don’t even know who the cashier is. There was no protest nor was there an urging for this person to lose their job. By all accounts, the mother didn’t even “check” the cashier, the little girl handled it so why are you so in defense of this individual? I’m truly at a lost. The people that do harbor those type of feelings…..that’s their choice. Who cares? I actually feel sorry for them actually but when you start crossing into the demonstrative aspect of acting on those feelings, that’s where the problem begins. To act as though the society has not decayed is being disingenuous. Co-existing peacefully has been challenging. People have lost all etiquette amongst other things. I did not say for cashiers to stay quiet….re-read what I wrote. I said engaging in pleasantries with their customers. Pleasantries require speaking but commenting and injecting personal feelings on a person’s purchase I doubt is in the training manual. I was not offended at all as you can’t offend me but I find it perplexing the degree of your stance. And I don’t know why you mentioned poor paying job. Have a great day!
It's just a doll why does the cashier care if it looks like her or not. People like her is the reason why we can't get past racism because they keep clinging onto it.
I don’t know if this is a controversial opinion, but I think if you’re a cashier you should not EVER and I mean EVER comment on what people are buying in a negative way. It’s just weird and passive aggressive. Something happened to me once where they were sort of making fun of what I was buying it made me feel like shit, like I don’t want to have my purchases questioned by some random person. Keep it to yourself! Though that’s just my opinion. Have a nice day or night.
To be honest, i feel like if we had blue or green or pink dolls (like completely as a skin tone) nobody would care as its a ‘toy’ so why do people think its ok to ridicule and slander other skin tones (that are realistic)on a doll that a child doesn’t even mind about. What person in there right mind pollutes a child’s mind with unnecessary thoughts? Im glad they brought that child up right. (Sorry about the rant, it just makes me angry 😂😂👍🏼)
Why do we corrupt children with hate and negativity? The old song from SOUTH PACIFIC is true: YOU HAVE TO BE TAUGHT TO HATE. God bless that child, and the parents raising her right...😎🇵🇷🇺🇸🦂
She’s raised so many frequencies with this story and the reporter portrayed it so eloquently. She is a “healer” and she knows her purpose at a very young age❤ young, but an old soul.
I think it's also because parents don't teach them that everyone is different. Look different and act different. Not that they want them to be racist, but they just don't teach them or tell them that everyone in the world is different
Actually being race conscious is a natural instinct, and it can even serve as a survival instinct. We are drawn to those who are like us. No matter how much you want to make up fairy tales about there being "only one race".

You're 100% correct Dena. I always say, "My father taught me love and my mother taught me hate". Seems interesting that usually it's the opposite, but not in my childhood household. Not until I went to college did I realize just how wrong and ignorant my own mother was. I had to reprogram myself to love all people. It's hard but it can be done if you want to.
Mhm no not necessarily. The cashier should have just mind her words. The doll is not just a doll . Just my opinion. Jewish people dont buy they're daughters black dolls

"Parents raise kids to be racist" is a reductionist way of looking at it. There is no escaping the fact that, although people aren't necessarily born racist, we do have inherent instincts to trust in-group individuals more than out-group individuals. Racism is an extension of that instinct. Make no mistake, however - if something is natural, it has no bearing on whether it's actually right.
Yes they are! I'm so grateful to my parents because I grew up in a home without hate, too. My mom didn't tolerate any type of discrimination in our house whether it was about race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities - AT ALL! She didn't entertain jokes where someone's feelings were the punchline and I mean she would tell you quick, fast and in a hurry that it was unacceptable. I was like 9 or 10 the first time I even heard the N word (and I live in the south) from a kid in my neighborhood. I came home and asked her what it meant and she very quickly told me it was a word people used when they wanted the world to know they were ignorant. Being young, I believed her and seriously thought that was the definition until she came into my room later that night and told me where it came from and that saying that word was hurtful to black people's feelings just the same as if someone called me ugly or stupid, and she let me know that to say it was telling the world of your ignorance. She grabbed a coloring book off my shelf and gave it to me then handed me one white crayon and told me to color her a picture. I told her I needed more colors and she said no that I had to use just white and I got a little upset and started whining about needing more colors. She asked me why and I told her that the picture wouldn't be pretty with just one color and then she told me never to forget that. That the world wouldn't be pretty with just one color either and that's why people are all different colors, that if God had used just the white crayon the world wouldn't be pretty. It wasn't nearly as profound to me then as it became as I got older but I will never stop being grateful for being allowed to grow up without having to carry the burden of hating anyone for being different.
@@sunnidavis195 your Mum sounds like a wonderful lady, I have always said "we are all human beings, it doesn't matter about the colour of your skin, your sexual orientation, if you look different ect as long as you are kind, respectful etc then I will be the same in return" 🤷♀️. I never did understand the whole “don’t you want the doll to look like you?” Children make up stories when they play, they needs variety of characters, why can’t people understand this?
It had nothing to do with looking like the doll but just being a different color. The racist was trying to be the nice person she thinks she is by expressing her racism in a not so blunt manner. If I was that girl's mom, I would of put the cashier in her place.
I kind of get it. As a child, I would prefer brunette dolls because I was brunette. I made up stories with myself as the main character, and for that I needed my doll to look like me. I think people are making the cashier out to be something they're not. If they meant it in a racist way, sure, that's terrible, but the cashier said 'we have lots of dolls who look like you, are you sure this is the one you want?'. There is nothing wrong with that because they're right, most kids want dolls who look like them.
If I was the mother this is what I would say “She made up her mind so stop being so god damn racist sweetie go with daddy to the car, NOW YOU LISTEN HERE YOU GOD DAMN RACIST PILE OF SHIT, YOU ARE IN NO RIGHT TO TELL MY DAUGHTER WHAT SHE CAN AND CANT DO. SHE NEEDS A VARIETY OF CHARACTERS AND UNIQUE STYLES! NOT JUST CLONES WALKING AROUND THE WHOLE CITY”

I know right, when I was younger, I loved darker skinned dolls, they were some of my favourites, and were so hard to get where I live that I really cherished them. They were the most special to me, lighter skinned dolls were a dime a dozen to me and were usually blonde, so they didn't look like me anyway (I'm brunette)
It would've been an even deeper burn if the girl would have said "She has a pretty face and I have a pretty face, unlike something you see in the mirror"
That's beautiful~ "She's a doctor and I'm a doctor" "She's pretty and I'm pretty" This is why I love kids. They're too pure and they say the sweetest things 😊
I ain’t no psychic, & have no idea who this cashier is, but I’ll bet my last dollar she wouldn’t have said anything to little black girl wanting a white doll.
You do realize that all of this is based on hearsay, correct? There's no actual proof that this happened. The mother probably was one of those women who likes to brag about how woke her child is on Facebook, and it just happened to go viral. I'll bet the cashier didn't even take notice of the doll
@@ElanaVital83 I worked at a Walmart and the people that work there can most definitely be racist towards customers and employees. And the customers towards the employees. Racism knows no bounds.
@@nuggets2.057 I agree. While it came off as a bad thing to say, there is no proof that they actually intended to be racist. I had a black Cabbage Patch doll in the early 1980’s which I still have to this day. Her name was Shirley April. 💕 My mom did the same thing with me pick which baby you want. When I was an adult I found out from her she got a lot of flack from people about me carrying her everywhere with me. 🤦♀️ Needless to say my mom could have cared less what anyone said, I was happy with my baby and that is all that mattered. So sad that people are so ignorant still...and that toddlers are so much smarter than some adults.
I also purchased a black doll for my granddaughter it was what had the best features of that specific name of doll she was very happy to open it on Christmas Day . Your story made me think about that Christmas. Besides it like the real world is. So when she goes to daycare she is always happy to see her friends.
The point of the story wasn't that she chose a black doll (I don't think that would get much interest from anyone) it was that she stood up to the cashier at two years old. That's the impressive part not that she bought a black doll (and I honestly don't think the mum would have posted anything if the cashier didn't say anything)

KhaMya Robinson yes, and we need more parents like hers who teach kids that everyone is beautiful in their own way. racist children always have racist parents because no child is born racist
In my younger days, I also was a cashier and a mom came thru my lane with her 2 y.o. son. He had a Barbie wrapped in a washcloth and cradled it while brushing its hair. I was talking to the little guy and asked what his Barbie's name was. He told me and I said he was taking care of her so well. The mom disclosed that she lets her son play with the Barbie only when the dad wasn't around because he HATES that his son plays with dolls. I proceeded to tell her my story of being 1 of 3 girls in my family and my dad wanted a son to work on cars with and learn his business of repairing swimming pools, etc. He taught me how to change a tire, change the oil and spark plugs and we even reupholstered my 1971 Beetle together when I was in High School. I learned skills that every person should know, regardless of their gender (sewing, cooking, working with power tools, painting a house, hanging wallpaper, mowing the grass, planting shrubs, and so much more). I encouraged her that her son playing with dolls is teaching him empathy and caregiving. He may one day be a nurse or doctor or therapist. It's probably been 25-30 years since this incident and it has always stuck in my head. I wonder if that mom even remembers me as I do her.
This is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Reminds me of a situation where this guy did awful things to his toddler because the boy had three sisters who all played with dolls, so he wanted to. The dad was being told by his wife and mom that his son was going to grow up gay. First of all, they shouldn't be taunting him, and second, what about teaching a little one empathy and care-giving, as you so aptly stated, and third, he was two. No need to even bring up gender at that age with a toddler. My brother played with barbies I was given. I didn't care about dolls much--I was the girl with Legos and a keyboard, who played in the dirt. :)
It is interesting that a lot of people think that: “If a young boy played with dolls, he would grow up gay”, without ever remembering that a majority of gay men grew up playing with and doing very boyish things as kids. Maybe this young boy will grow up to know just how to take care of his newborn and very young children in a more nurturing manner especially knowing how to relate to his daughter and her care and needs and even how to relate better to a girlfriend and or wife in a more sensitive and affecting way.
So, a boy wants a girl doll and father worries he'll grow up gay (dad's figured out how to prevent homosexuality?) Let a girl have a girl doll and same dad has no worries that she'll grow up gay. How about give this kid a Ken doll and see if he prefers it. Let him grow up to be who he is.
When I worked at a gas station, a little old 80 year old lady came to get gas and needed help. Her husband had just died a few weeks earlier and it was her first time pumping gas.😢
Yeah! I love that too. She's a smart little girl, smart than that adult who thinks herself to be smart but only displayed her high-level stupidity. First of all, Sophia was with her mother who had d right to choose, if she chose, d doll her daughter went home with or not, but didn't. But there was a know-it-all cashier who taught oh it is in my place to make this choice for this little white girl who is doing d wrong thing by choosing to over look d colour of this doll but to see it as a cool, beautiful, doctor doll that reminds her alot about herself aside colour of d skin. Bravo girl, mom n dad.
Linda’s Channel well come to think of it, even though “colorblind” society is not one we are striving for, since it erases the past of oppressed groups of people, children who have not yet been taught these histories could actually be called “colorblind” in a positive light, for not letting skin color get in the way of their opinions and choices!
@@furanrabbits I'm a grown adult, and I do refer to myself as colorblind. I don't see myself any different than anybody else in regards to race. I just think it's time to mature as a species, and quit harassing people over the color of their skin.

What a beautiful and smart little girl. That cashier was way out of line. The audacity of people. It’s truly unbelievable.
@@freshs.273
And sometimes people just say exactly what they mean.
@@freshs.273
Sir, please explain whose day was ruined?
The cashier acts like she's the one paying for the doll
I don’t know if this is a controversial opinion, but I think if you’re a cashier you should not EVER and I mean EVER comment on what people are buying in a negative way. It’s just weird and passive aggressive. Something happened to me once where they were sort of making fun of what I was buying it made me feel like shit, like I don’t want to have my purchases questioned by some random person. Keep it to yourself! Though that’s just my opinion. Have a nice day or night.

Wow that cashier wouldn’t let her be a kid without being racist
Question Everything she can say whatever so stop making a ESA and causing drama
Question Everything if a kid is just getting a doll why even question them ? It’s a toy ! Does it matter what color ?
Rihanna_x_angles Rocraft you’re really going to question an innocent child over the color of a toy ?
Question Everything *sigh*
Oh no I was saying she was writing a ESA over your opinion
Le kid: She is a doc[t]or, I'm a doc[t]or. She's pretty. I'm pretty.
Cashier:
Me: Apply cold water to the burn.
Leave it to the kid. She’s a doctor, she’ll know what to do...
It would've been an even deeper burn if the girl would have said
"She has a pretty face and I have a pretty face, unlike something you see in the mirror"
(Insert the rosted meme)
This isnt a time to meme

This is why I love kids. They're too pure and they say the sweetest things 😊
Breanne Doria Most kids aren't like this. Search up the doll test or something. It's really sad.
No not a doctor a “dotor”

Breanne Doria well yeah some kids are sweet but some are brats ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I ain’t no psychic, & have no idea who this cashier is, but I’ll bet my last dollar she wouldn’t have said anything to little black girl wanting a white doll.
Ding Ding Ding....BINGO!
JCsTime JC And I’m no psychic, but I bet the cashier voted for Trump.

This little girl is going to be something even more special when she is an adult.
That cashier should get fired I loved that little girls response
You do realize that all of this is based on hearsay, correct? There's no actual proof that this happened. The mother probably was one of those women who likes to brag about how woke her child is on Facebook, and it just happened to go viral. I'll bet the cashier didn't even take notice of the doll
Elana Vital What she’s saying is based off the ‘facts’ in this video. She’s saying that is the cashier actually did that they should be fired.
@@ElanaVital83 I worked at a Walmart and the people that work there can most definitely be racist towards customers and employees. And the customers towards the employees. Racism knows no bounds.
Shishter Sasha that person better get fired
@@nuggets2.057 I agree. While it came off as a bad thing to say, there is no proof that they actually intended to be racist. Some kids really like getting dolls that look like themselves, and maybe they meant it more as a suggestion or a fun idea. What they say definitely could have been racist, I'm not trying to sugar coat it. But there's no proof this happened, and we don't know their side of the story. I don't think being fired is really necessary.
“She’s a doctor im a doctor. She’s a pretty girl ima pretty girl”

She said it!! That's right ignorant cashier!!!❤👍
We need more people like Sophia
Horrifica Show go out and be like her
True
Horrifica Show yes yes we do

OK
What a beautiful story! Wonderful parents raising a wonderful little person
This made me tear up😭 love the parents for allowing their daughter to grow up without bias.
Me too!! So beautiful... kids can teach adults so much!
Trust me, most parents do ❤️ in Scotland anyway.
Agree if a child can do this why cant adults
the fact that this child has to explain buying a doll is ridiculous
Exactly.
The fact that it's such a big deal is ridiculous
Not to a cashier 😂
Jae Jinsol at 2 years old
The point of the story wasn't that she chose a black doll (I don't think that would get much interest from anyone) it was that she stood up to the cashier at two years old. That's the impressive part not that she bought a black doll (and I honestly don't think the mum would have posted anything if the cashier didn't say anything)
I don't get it... what if she picked a dragon? Would the cashier say no, because the girl isn't a dragon?
EXACTLY. VERY GOOD POINT.
LOL!!!!!
She might have claimed the dragon was a "boy toy" and asked the girl if she wanted to get a doll instead. Silly people are silly.
If you don’t get it, imagine what black people feel...
@@sekhmetnubian1020 I honestly feel fucking ashamed that there are a million white Barbie dolls for example. If I were a black kid I'd feel absolutely confused if black women aren't pretty enough to be a Barbie. A damn shame that that shit is still a thing in fucking 2020. How hard can it be to represent everyone in an even amount?
How in the world would a cashier question a child like that and in front of her mother no less? This is the doll this baby girl picked out. And that’s all that matters! That’s the doll she wanted because she’s a doctor like her and a pretty girl like. People need to pick their battles in other ways.
This comment was not meant to seem rude
This child is kinder than 50% of the world. She was raised right
Tysm for the likes 💕
Agreed, her parents raised her right
89%?
I'd say 89% is an overestimation. There's more kindness in the world than you think but k
@MapleMeii_ 89% may be a lot but that’s not how you think it works, 1% out of 7 billion is 70 million, so 11% is definitely a lot compared to some bad apples in this world
@MapleMeii_ yeah i get what you mean
This girl stood up to a racist bully at that store and it's great that she chose the doll on her own and not based on it looking like her.
FromtheMudd419, yeah! I'm so proud of her.
Ha ha ha
yea about two years ago when i was 11. i had a biracial baby doll and it was a boy. the lady was like. is this your doll ? and i was like yeah. and she was like. but he doesn’t look like you. and i was like yeah but he’s cute. and she said. well that’s weird.

we need more of kids hat is like Sophia and with great attiude like she is
KhaMya Robinson it’s sad that she is kinder than most adults
KhaMya Robinson yes, and we need more parents like hers who teach kids that everyone is beautiful in their own way. racist children always have racist parents because no child is born racist
Why hello here I am
Sophia C we have the same inatinals
Tawna Cleveland get a life please.
Such a sweetheart
That’s so sweet! Glad you stood up for him! Now I’m thinking about all the times I’ve stayed quiet. Maybe I should try giving advice more again.
I love most that mommy and daddy did not intervene. That's a child. Sophia is a smart girl.
I think they were just taking pause to figure out a way to say something that wouldn't be too vulgar for the little one.
I wouldn't have been such a nice Mommy. 🤬
#hopeforthefuture😁
@@joyemeh1612 racism is taught.. not inherited..
Children are pure and “colorblind”, it’s the adults that put racist thoughts in their minds.
Great comment. I wouldn’t say color blind, pure yes but I understand what you mean. They are usually fair and impartial.
Linda’s Channel well come to think of it, even though “colorblind” society is not one we are striving for, since it erases the past of oppressed groups of people, children who have not yet been taught these histories could actually be called “colorblind” in a positive light, for not letting skin color get in the way of their opinions and choices!
FurAn'Rabbits it’s actually what I’d perfer
@@furanrabbits I'm a grown adult, and I do refer to myself as colorblind. I don't see myself any different than anybody else in regards to race. I just think it's time to mature as a species, and quit harassing people over the color of their skin.

Such a beautiful soul bless you Sofia
When a little kid scolds you on discrimination, you lost.
LOL. So true!
Lol
Lol right
There was no discrimination by anyone. The cashier just asked, out of curiosity, perhaps. She never scolded or shamed the girl for choosing a black doll.
dtrtus cay Right, because when a white kid grabs a black doll, and you ask them “Don’t you want to grab a doll that looks like you?”, there is nothing in between the lines, right?
Wow imagine a toddler being more educated than an adult
and also more kind and empathic.

🤣
I hope the little girl's mom told the owner or manager about what happened.
🤣 yup, that is why she is a cashier.

@Christopher Vice what exactly do you mean by look more like her? She is a pretty girl, the doll is a pretty girl. What is different?
Children are angels !! We the adults dirty their minds with the nonsense we do around them .
Stay Blessed Sofia.
