Not to say we Malaysian are not compassionate towards the Palestinians. Malaysia has just been recovering from economic problems namely the1MDB & also other financial problems. We are not rich to help other nation's patients. Our people need help too in terms of medical aid, daily livelihood eg. meals & daily needs. Memang benar juga bahawa rakyat di negara ini mempunyai banyak masalah, dan kita mesti belajar mengawal keutamaan kita. There is nothing wrong with humanitarian aid, but it must be done within your means. It is also true that the people in the country have a lot of problems, and we must learn to control our priorities.
I think these days it's better to help them in this manner. Because some (not all) of these so-called Palestinian aid "orgs" are scammers. Getting aid there is a problem, they get confiscated by Israel at Rafah anbd that's very well documented even by CNN. Or you have to bribe the Egyptians. We can fly them out here, but now instead of helping 1000 we can help 100 because of the cost of logistics. Malaysians can't help more than that if their stupid arab neighbors won't play ball.
Prof, i applaud you for having this open conversation. I agree with you that comments should be respectful. However, we live in the social media era, where it can be very toxic. On the other hand, there are a group of people who will be offended no matter what. We should always ask ourselves, are we so easily offended?? People who are easily offended are weak and easily manipulated. And they will resort to violence. Malaysians, let us be mature even through offences.

Helping and assisting people in need is a virtue and admirable. BUT helping the helpless and needy "selectively" is what pissed citizens off. It's discriminatory, isn't it? Don't get me wrong for I'm all for helping the Palestinians but why did the government NOT help, for example, the Yemenis who are suffering just as much. Do enlighten all who have doubts of the government's impartiality?
Prof, Just put religion aside as the critics are general Malaysian feedback and should not be directed to non Muslim only. It is a general feedback. It can be deemed to agree or disagree. We should not be too sensitive and relate all matters to religion.
Professor. I believe ANWAR should not have extended this help. There are several Islamic country's around they can help. Our country is too far. Why Anwar help the rohinians. We are short of hospitals ,why why . We need our PM TO SOLVE our problems first
Nearby Muslim countries have helped housed Palestinian refugees for decades since the first Nakba in the early 20th century. Jordan, Lebanon and Syria are much poorer and smaller than Malaysia, but they extended help to Palestinians and even accepted them and their descendants as their fellow citizens. With the on-going invasions by Israel and the US, these countries have reached their maximum capacity to shelter more Palestinian refugees.

I happened to have followed your Malay version on this subject that was posted earlier. Prof, I’ve supported your stand on things as an Academic person but while this English version is more objective I’m a bit disturbed by your blame in the Malay version that put the blames on “ non-Muslims” for criticising the PM. Why is that so as in this English version you did not attempt to blame the non-Muslims directly ( unlike in your Malay version ) for criticising. You conveniently interpret the criticism by netizens as against Palestinians insinuating that netizens hated Palestinians which is NOT THE CASE ! The criticism are directed at the PM and NOT the Palestinians ! Don’t fan the fire on this apparent rift between netizens and Palestinians which may have been misinterpreted by you. It is understandably that we should be charitable to others when and if we can. However, you should also understand that perhaps NOW is not the time for us to be charitable when some of our netizens are suffering too and our country’s coffers is just recovering. You of all people should also understand that not everyone can be as good and precise as you in their writings and expressions when communicating their thoughts of the unnecessary exercise that was done in bringing the injured Palestinians to our country when a better solution would be to send our medical team there as in many previous cases. Moreover, the injured are less than 50% of those brought in and regardless of “who are dependent on who”, we know both are dependent of our taxpayers fund. Perhaps the communication ministry needs to perform better in explaining the rationale of such exercise rather than for the PM to just say compassion and human rights reasons. Netizens remembered the last time the same excuse of compassion was used for BOSSKU’s reduction in sentence.
It seems like ure focusing into the emotional sentiments online rather than the actual arguments, prof. And worse, ure putting the rakyats words on the same pedestal in weight against those politicians such as wan faisal etc. The rakyat has the right to vent, unlike politicians who were elected to do right as leaders of the nation. Politicians will have to bear the consequences of their words and actions. Dont like the responsibility, then dont run for the seat like the rest of us. Not everyone goes through ethical speech training. Trying to gaslight and censor the rakyat will cause more division. The wisest thing PMX could do is to calm the ppl down instead of finger wagging like he did. His fatherly figure tactic only works in the past when he is fighting for the rakyat. The situation is totally different now as he is PERCEIVED as fighting for foreigners.

@@Xch-68jz8 Does that mean for every kind of aid, the govt should never get involved? No country ever does that! Every country helps out to a certain extent. This is what the govt has decided, and I believe it's quite reasonable. If we helped thousands of Palestinians by chartering an A380, even I would question AI.
If we are in good financial standing like Singapore then we can offer help & treatment for the Palestinians. I feel it is not a good time to help other nation's people because our country is not financially stable.

Please take a look at Madam Mariam Mokhtar’s latest episode & u shall understand better why Malaysian whether taxpayers or not are kinda pissed with this matter.
You dont have to defend Anwar lah. What is wrong is wrong. No doubt about it
You can't critique cai na leaders. That's the underlying message

Well quoted Terry.... Anwar is doing whatever Malaysia is able to do to help these Palestinians rather than just talk....it is the right thing to do
I think these days it's better to help them in this manner.

Do enlighten all who have doubts of the government's impartiality?
Prof,
Just put religion aside as the critics are general Malaysian feedback and should not be directed to non Muslim only.

Why would helping Palestine in terms of flying them for medical treatment result in higher import tariffs? Do you know that aids do not reach Palestine as the Philadelphia corridor is effectively non-functional? Did you hear what happened with the scam Palestinian aid organization in Malaysia?
The truth is always ugly prof.
Even kelantan flood in the past.. Certain ppl set up mini shop from the aid....
