Nice work. I built a load of Tamiya 1/35th German Military models during the 70's and 80's. Can't anymore, sadly. Failing eyes and arthritic hands ended my modelling hobby. I do miss it though. it was always so very relaxing/therapeutic.
I’m getting worse myself. Results aren’t as good but it’s the process I still enjoy.
From the poses of the figures its clear they referenced stock war photos. They are correctly posed as they would be in real life.
Do u use super glue to glue the soldiers to the jig and dose it leave any glue behind
Your left-hand finger tips are now fully combat ready.
Toys, books, models, games, films, these soldiers were a big part of my childhood 😄
At 54 years old, same here my Friend🇺🇸
Oh shoulder boards. I remember painting those many times in the 70s and 80s. There were articles about it in the magazines of the day. Fun times.
Haha fair enough! These decals do make it a bit easier 🙂
And on the Tamyia boxes! Do you remember the Tamyia trifold brochure? Wow I wore that out looking at it.
@@riff2072 Yup sure do!
Models and painting have come a long way since I was building them back in the 70s and 80s
I've been making these 1/35 MM series by Tamiya since the 80s and I've learned a new technique or two from you! Thanks!
You definitely jumped on this one. Looks great, too. Those decals are worth the price of admission by themselves. 👍
I’d agree for sure! Thanks a million - cheers 🍻
Always great to see how people do things. I do mine differently but in the end they come out thr same. Good to see Tamiya finally coming into the 21st century and catching up to other makers.
I finished up a Dragon MG team not two days before your video announcing this kit. The Dragon kit was both a great bargain (on the "sale" table at my local hobby shop) and a chore to assemble, with soft details, some out-of-scale equipment, and 1980s tooling quality. Nowhere close to the quality of this Tamiya kit. I need to build one of these to restore my enthusiasm for 1:35 figures.
They’re pretty phenomenal - I’m sure they’ll make for a great palette-cleanser!
That skulpt is incredible. Wow.
Definitely!
Just goes to show for that there are infinite ways to paint a great looking miniature. Probably will never see it, but would love to see plastics of this scale and quality in other historical periods; Greeks, Romans, Medieval, Napoleonic’s, Civil War, etc. Traditionally I’ve painted 28mm, and today’s plastics have never looked better, but l don’t game, so 1/35 scale with all that extra detail would be absolutely amazing.
Been anxiously awaiting this one!!! He looks stellar Hank! I like the trick of leaving the bit of sprue attached to the head. I’ll remember that one!
Thanks so much! It's a handy little trick - works well for me, at least! 👍
Really enjoyed this watch as it's NOT a scary one for beginner's. There's too many 'advanced/competition' level tutorials on UA-cam compared to ones that show how to do the basics. So very well done. And it does indeed look like a lovely sculpt.
Thanks very much! I appreciate it - I strive to make this hobby as accessible to as many folks as possible... it can certainly be intimidating sometimes!
Another great modeling class Hank... Continue to support this great hobby. Greetings from Portugal.
Thanks so much! Cheers!
Love it, great work, quality looking figure set, nice to see some figures in more action poses, great for a diorama scene
Couldn't agree more!
Nicley done. Sometimes you can substitute Tamyia NATO Black XF69 instead flat black for the belt and/or some of the equipment. It makes a bit of a faded-out look and a contrast between items.
I always enjoy your tutorials Hank, you've made this little figure come to life and you make it look so easy!
Thank you so much! 👍
Bit of satin shine on the helm would look great. Awesome video
Great build Hank, Thank You for sharing. Got mine on backorder. Hope you have a great/cool week and keep those brushes wet ! Cheers, Tony
Haha thanks so much - likewise, my friend! 😅
Great figure painting and nice job! You definitely make this look easy.
Thank you! Cheers! 🍻
Yikes - that is a NICE figure. WOW - when I was building the Tamiya figures in the 1980s - one had to PAINT the shoulder-boards. Was amusing - a few times I made an enlisted figure a Major for giggles.
Haha there ya go! They are some phenomenal figures - the technology has come a long way.
Some very useful tips for beginners and veterans to review and use.
One should always consider the range of your Viewership! The figure alone has an endless number of diorama possibilities in use, too.
Bang up job, dude!
Nice work!
As a wargamer that jumped ship over to scale models im glad to see this huge improvement in the figure sculpts.
I just got these and yes great figures, hardly no seam lines and the fit and quality of these are great 👍🏼
HANK I WAITED FOREVER FOR THIS VIDEO I LOVE IT!!!!! I LOVE YOUR CONENT PLEASE MAKE MORE I SCREAMED AS SOON AS I SAW YOU POSTED (kinda wish he had a strap but it’s amazing and better work than mine!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!
@@SpruesNBrews keep making video please your welcome!
@@SpruesNBrewsquestion didn’t the Germans stop using the helmet emblem in 1943? And should there be two? I was just wondering
Wonderful work there Hank..These new Tamiya German figures really are excellent.!.All the best🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
Thanks very much!!
Only change I would make on your fine work would be to darken the skin tone to a weathered tan look. The uniform and equipment looks great!
Great job Hank! Awesome idea to paint in the spikes on the bottom of the boots! 🙌
Thanks very much!
Great job, I used to make their tanks when I was younger, but painting the guys that came with them was pretty difficult
My model of choice is the 120mm Verlinden military and pirate figures , but you make it look a lot easier than it actually is , great video .
Hey Hank - fantastic and congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers, amazing cheers Liam
Thanks for noticing! Celebration to come 🙂
Hi Hank. Outstanding work mate. Figures have always been a bugbear of mine but watching this has got me having another go. Thanks for the watch and, as always, happy modelling.
Every few years Tamiya puts out a kit that sets a new standard within their own 1/35 MM range. I thought it was the US Scouts set which was also amazing, but with where this kit took it, I think we have our generation-changer.
Super nice work & smooth paint job man!
Thank you! Cheers!

Amazing work my friend !!
Thank you very much - cheers!
Awesome job. I remember painting this set when I was a kid around 40 years ago. Of course mine weren’t that good
Very nicely done. Cheers
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job on painting it 👍
Thank you so much!
Hope you're in communication with Tamiya, for recognition and/or compensation for providing such outstanding representation of their figure.
Nice. Will use this tutorial to paint other sets that I have. Cheers.👍
Awesome!
Beautiful paint job. I was shocked when you started the enamel dark wash 5:07 (OMG! What is he doing!?) Ha ha!
Color me impressed!! Awesome job!! 👍
Thanks so much!!
Wow, looks fantastic👌
Thanks so much! 👍
Nice work dude 😇
Thank you kindly!!
Excellent figures and excellent work.👍
Thank you!
Dude....nuff said.....wow
Thank you!
Nice job. With precision hands like that, you'd be a good surgeon.
wow real nice job, tamiya makes great models but it also takes great skill to bring those details to life ... kudos ...
Outstanding paint work! Looks so real. Congrats on 💯k subs! I have a question on where did you get those paint brushes? Perfect that detail work. Thanks,Al.
Awesome figure and build and thankfully 🙏 👐 no shiny finishes
The new Tamiya figures are good, and I want more. But, always drilled out the sleeves at the wrist, looks so much nicer.
Amazing, brings back fond memories. Think my first kit was the mortar team and the PAK AT gun
Great work, great narration, learnt a lot from your upload, many thanks!
This single handedly got me into models/painting lol
No way!! I'm so glad to hear it was inspirational! Enjoy!
looks like real 😮❤
Congrats on the 100K, well deserved
Thank you so much! Celebrations to come! 🙂
Great tutorial Hank please keep them coming by the way whats happening with the Sherman tank series of tutorials
It'll be back soon!! I know it's been a bit... quite a lot goes into the series, but I promise the next installment will be coming!
A few dashes of silver paint would’ve helped on the binocular case to represent small scratches on his equipment . I think these solders look why better when they’ve been distressed however i can’t fault the painting !!
Great job
Very nice figure my friend 👌🔝
Very nice, I use a lead pencil to highlight the weapons, gives a nice gun metal look to them
I was wondering if you might share what your mix ratio is for airbrushing the Vallejo paints.
This is a great guide and perfect timing - have the needed colors and 3 unpainted figures that came with the Tamiya PAK 40.
Have painted uniform, boots and helmets - Just about to paint skin tones.
I am clueless when it comes to historical colors for figures.
Thanks.
Glad it helped! Enjoy - happy painting!
Thanks for adding the shopping sites. Im 67 and retired in mexico. Its been 50 years since ive built anything and there is nothing close to a hobby shop by me.
I have to say they look amazing!
Looks really good. I’m going to have to purchase this set for sure. Great video Hank!
Thanks very much - enjoy!
Tremendo trabajo amigo. Gracias por compartir tu técnica. Es muy acertada especialmente cuando se debe pintar un gran regimiento de soldados!!
That gloss varnish is insane
Nice job Hank.
Nicely done. And very timely-I’ve been meaning to order this set but now that I’ve seen this review, I’m going to do it NOW!
Amazing flesh color 😮
Lovely little model thanks
fantastic painting
Love it! Any word on the painting guide for the H3 GI figure from a few months ago?
I've got to get back to him, you're right!
@@SpruesNBrews Can’t wait! I’m working on a US Airborne army for Bolt Action so I love getting more thoughts on how to paint M43 uniforms and other late war equipment.
Those models look great, you did a mighty fine job !
Nice, keep it up bro !
Lovely figure. Can't wait to buy a set. Did you prime the figure before the black?
Thanks! The first black coat was the primer 👍
Outstanding work bro!!
Thank you!!
Lovely is definately not a word for them.
You make it look so easy 😭
Practice makes progress! Keep it up!
Superb work ! 👍
That's truly a great model German machine gunner figure . It looks as if Tamiya is improving considerably with the model soldiers. Excellent paint work. It is as someone else said it's the best looking German soldier....until another good one shows up. I'm an amataur modeller. I always thought you paint parts before putting them together. I don't think I'll be doing that now. Figures that is. Glue and paint affect each other. Parts don't adhere well at all. Thanks for this video lesson.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
For this kit the hardest part is the MG belt I broke it a few times trying to bend it into form.
Great video Hank, appreciate the information and tips you provide! Especially on figures!
Thank you very much - I appreciate it!
Greetings from Australia. You have done an excellent job
So awesome!
excellent tutorial (and subscribed!).
Great job. Are you sure about the bayonet since he's not carrying a Kar98? Cheers
Thanks! And I was wondering about that too... the kit does instruct that piece to be there, so I'm guessing that some sort of fighting knife would have been standard issue, even for MG troops! Will have to look into it.
Great Video!!!
It s a beautiful item
Nice job
Jou must continue
Tks from paris
Merci!
Looks good,
You are an amazing modeler, I watch your videos all the time. I’m 75 and haven’t built a model since I was 10. I’m getting an itch to try again. It’s all your fault. How do I join your club. Thank you so much!!!
excellent, subscribed
got this in my stash, looks like I'll have to break it out
Hey Hank, can you use enamel Dark wash if you have given the figure a gloss coat of Pledge instead of AK or other gloss. Please, please can we have some more H.E.A.T.S. cheers.
I've found that sometimes the enamel products can react poorly with Pledge... it's been a little bit since I've tried it, I'll admit, but just proceed carefully. Perhaps do a test on an old figure first? Good luck & happy painting!
Great video
Correct me if im wrong but i think trousers and jacket were a different shade if feld grau.
I’m nowhere near at your level I’ve got similar German troops but my painting is limited so I have a go but it’s nowhere near as good as yours professional very very good well done thanks for sharing the video
Thank you for watching! Practice makes progress... keep it up!
what gloss and flat varnishes are you using? , and what is your dry time between the decals drying and between gloss and flat varnishes?
Question about the black primer. In the video it says Flat black, but the Amazon link in de description is for Gloss black primer (Vallejo 74.660). Isn't Flat black primer the 74.602?
