I thought Teth Adam was just a normal person. But some people killed his family members. The last surviving members were him and his nephew.
The wizards granted both of them of the Shazam powers. The nephew wanted to save Kahndaq's people from those evil people, be the hero and bring peace. But Teth chose the way of vengeance and he believed that vengeance is the only way to peace.
So, he purposely killed his own nephew, took 2x of the powers and killed all the people who killed his family. Because of his blind rage, he was captured into his prison for so many years.

Comic version was FAR less altruistic. It was not his son that got the powers, but his nephew. His nephew didn't just give him all his powers, but split them between them. You can be all powerful but evil has no bounds and it will use your bystanders, property and even love ones as collateral.(Joker injustice). Had the wizard chose black Adam originally he probably could have saved his son and restored Kahndaq. Sometimes being a noble, and good hero just won’t cut it.

This concept is best demonstrated in Marvel Comics with Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. In order to be worthy, you need to be willing to take the life of another if it is truly necessary and they are a major threat. That's why Spider-Man (one of the most pure-hearted and hero-like characters of all time) would not be worthy and would never be able to lift Mjolnir, despite all his good morals

He has a cool backstory at least to make him a perfect anti-hero. But he isn't exactly an Anti-hero too. He is a hero to Kahndaq. But he is also coming towards other cities like Gotham/Metropolis. Superman will stop him then and soon, he will meet Billy and his family.

It was built up like it was what everyone wanted. And don’t get me wrong, Black Adam is cool, but we could have got D.Cu’s answer to Venom with this movie. It should be dark, atosmpjeric and give the rock a chance to go back to his roots as playing a villainous character.
I also feel this movie didn’t need the Justice society. Maybe Dr Fate or Hawkman, but the rest weren’t needed, this movie should be focused on Black Adam and him fighting Sabaac. There was to much going on, that’s what I’m saying.

Just my two cents: I think they can develop Adam's characterization a bit more before the revelation that he was not who we thought he was. In his past life, Black Adam was either someone who tried to lay low to keep his family out of trouble, or someone who was oppressed to the point of complete batsh*t rage. When he was released in modern day, he did act weird but did not really show traits of someone who has been through what he has been through. He was more calm, showed unexpected compassion and willingness to help a couple of strangers that he just met, stuff that just did not seem to match to what he was before he was imprisoned.

He did have awkward behaviours, like a god flying around without knowing what to do.
But it is understandable, as he has a lot of regret, while the world he knows is long gone, including everyone he knows.
There is a part that he says "I am sorry" to the statue of his son because of he fails his son's purpose as a hero.
He does not know what he is , what he should be when he wakes up, and that is why he does not care much, and just behaves coldly.
And you know, even himself considers his power dangerous, so he does not really tend to blame the wizards for imprisoning him.
And he used to be a good father to Hurut, used to be a good person. It is not like he does not want to be a hero like his son, but just that he realizes that he can not be. But still, his purpose is righteous, so he tends to protect people and show compassion.
So, to me, this version of Black Adam is actually written good, because all his reactions feel just like a normal human.
And all this story, is about a normal person wants to do something right when being gifted godly power, even though he does not see himself a hero.

Never understood the traditional idea of the Hero=no killing
Just because you shouldn’t doesn’t mean you ‘can never’. In Injustice for example, Superman was right. How many innocents would still be alive if Batman actually killed The Joker instead of arresting him?
Superman or just a man, one can blame a husband/father for killing his wife/child’s killer. I always thought a real hero was the one who did what no one else was willing to do; make the tough choices…the anti-hero.
