WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY - Photographing WILD MUSTANGS, a day spent in the DESERT with WILD HORSES

- Photographing wild Mustangs (Wild Horses) is a great way to practice action photography. These Horses are so active and there are so many opportunities to see them chasing each other, biting, fighting, kicking, etc. This trip I spent some time getting more video footage rather than photos, and I had such a great time.
These Mustangs, as well as so many other desert animals, are true specialists of this arid environment. It's been a few years since I've come out to photograph them and it was so great to see them again.
When going out to photograph or observe animals, or if you're just getting out into nature, please remember to stick to designated roads when driving. Many of these landscapes are so fragile and need our help protecting them. As always, thanks for the support and have a great week!

Great stuff Jimmy! Those horses are true survivors and are worthy of adoration! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, they're survivors for sure 😁
Beautiful landscapes and beautiful horses! Great movie! 👍
They're wonderful animals, thanks for looking!
Good Monday Morning from New Zealand, Thanks for your great wild horses video, thanks for sharing, have a wonderful week
Thanks Tony, I hope you enjoyed! Have a wonderful week!
Beautiful video Jimmy! Not every day you see wild mustangs!
Thank you ☺️ Most people don't have them in their area, so I feel very fortunate!
Большое спасибо за прекрасное видео 😊😊😊
Great to see these wild horses Jimmy. Nice job photographing them. I haven’t photographed any in a decade or so. You have now renewed my interest in photographing them again.👍👍
Glad to hear it Terry! Good luck staying cool if you go out to see them sometime soon, haha!
I almost didn't watch, but I'm glad I did. What beautiful animals (and great footage & images)!
Well I'm very glad you did! 🙏 Thank you for the support, hopefully the future videos will look more appealing 😜
Thanks for sharing another great video!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks!
Great video, Jimmy. I would love to get out and see these horses some day.
They're a bunch of fun! Thanks for watching, greatly appreciated ☺️
Wonderful imagery, thanks for sharing
I appreciate it, thanks so much for watching!
Loved watching the little foal, it must have been a very young one to be so unsteady. Also it was cool to watch some of the horses running and their heads didn't look like horses when they were running into the wind? Thanks very informative as always.
Thanks for watching! Kailie would know better how old that little foal was, he did look very young though. They're awesome animals for sure!
Some awesome video Jimmy! Nice work pal! ✊
Thanks a bunch, Danny! Appreciate ya 👊
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing and for the conservation note. I really loved the slower pace. I thought it complimented the scenery and subject matter very well. Cheers from Maine. :) Paula
Thank you very much! Even with how active these guys can be, I thought this would be a good video to slow things down a bit, thanks so much for watching!
Another great video Jimmy, kind of a change of pace but a very entertaining video. I always think of horses as domestic animals and it is really interesting to see them in the wild. Thanks for sharing and look forward to next week. Have a great week.
Thanks Keith! With that sunset out there, I felt like I needed to slow the pace down a bit for this video, so I hope it turned out well! Thanks for watching and for the constant support!
I loved the video, it made me a bit emotional, probably because I am going to see the wild mustangs in Wyoming in a few weeks time. I am so looking forward to it and taking lots of photos and videos. Your video just made me an extra excursion to see them. Can’t wait. Thank you Jimmy.
Thanks Diana, I'm glad you enjoyed! That sounds like so much fun, I hope you have a wonderful outing with them, such beautiful animals!
@@JimmyBreitenstein Yes I had an amazing time, so much so I am going back to Cody next year and of course seeing the mustangs again.
More horses please!! You're very good at bringing their wildness to film!!!
New sub!;
Thanks for looking! I'll hopefully be back out with some horses later this spring 🤞
@@JimmyBreitenstein ok!! Can't wait!!
Nice video, Like 40 and Bye from Italy :)
Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much for following along, glad to have ya! I hope you continue to enjoy the videos, if you ever have any questions or video requests/recommendations, just let me know! Thanks again 😊
Thanks for sharing! Looks hot and dry-the scars on them are always crazy-I imagine they must’ve hurt
Thanks for looking! I know right!? Some of those males had some crazy cuts and wounds. I didn't include one of them in the video because it was so bad, I don't know how he was still walking around honestly.
@@JimmyBreitenstein I believe it! One episode of the Wild and Exposed Podcast talks about photographing some of these same herds, the host that was doing the photography said that the males battle it out for pecking order , for them and their herd. I imagine the battles can be pretty intense and result in some ugly wounds
Great capture, Young James...........both in video and stills. Are these the herds located in the areas around Cody, Wyoming (it's OK if you'd rather not say). Thanks for you continued emphasis on Conservation.
My guess is Western Utah but 🤷♂️. I didn’t know the Cody area had some, I’ll have to take a look the next time I am around there
Yeah, that's correct. There's a few different herds out here in Utah. I've seen some stunning images of the horses out near Cody, some really beautiful animals! Thank you both for the comments and support!
These are wonderful Jimmy!! Question: do you always handhold when you are taking a video?
Thanks Kathleen ☺️ I actually always use a tripod when shooting video. I try to handhold as much as possible when taking pictures.
Hello Jimmy! What camera did you use to film these magnificent creatures?
I use the Canon R5 for all my video. The still images were taken with the 1DXII
Horses can be very destructive to habitat. They will eat the bark of trees. I bet the pressure of the horses on the land is a result of what you’re seeing also. They will overgraze. Horses must be managed but they are enjoyable to watch.
I agree. I think there are a lot of factors that contribute to the land degrading out there. There's a lot of sheep and cows that graze the land, not to mention the horses like you said. I think that all contributes to the reduction of vegetation and increase in erosion. It surely doesn't help that people are driving all over the place on the remaining plants.
@@JimmyBreitenstein Agree, sheep will also overgraze. Like horses they can eat the plant to the ground. Cattle leave 4 inches of vegetation because of the way they use their tongue to grasp foliage. Turf wars (Sheep Wars) were fought here in Arizona over sheep herders and cattle ranchers not coming to terms on sheep overgrazing. Kept us from getting statehood and rivaled any Hollywood western movie you’ve ever seen.
