yeaa people in the comments siding with either David or the in-laws seem to not get that they need their own home too or quick to jump on David because he seems to "take things lightly". At least he was trying a food truck business and now is an actor which isn't the worst we've seen on this channel lol (the martial arts guy). Part of me agrees that he should try harder in learning Korean and the reason he's so slow to adapt is because his wife is enabling him by speaking to him in Portuguese(?). The family definitely shows mutual love for each other, just hard to express because of the language barrier or different ways of showing love but it's definitely there.
edit: judging from his instagram pics, he has his own restaurant now

no one told him to live in Korea, I also think that learning a language is very important if we want to establish bonds, on the one hand his wife is right to talk to her mother so that she does not care if he does not want her help, on the other hand, the mother-in-law is also right because s he wants to have contact with his son-in-law, and without a good knowledge of the language it is impossible

People need to be more sensitive to different cultures and more respectful of elders. You’re in Korea and this MIL’s behaviour isn’t something out of the ordinary. You may not be used to this “nagging” as you like to call it, and maybe sometimes it seems to be too much for you, but is it really that big of a deal? Respect for elders is a big thing in many parts of Asia. If you are planning on marrying someone there then be ready to adapt a little and accept that things will be different. If you can’t be respectful and accept this way of life (which by the way is totally normal for Koreans and not a burden for them) then maybe you should rethink staying there.

    • @samysdefer

@@samysdefer no one to take care of them? Pension? That’s not the right way to look at things. Our parents birth is, raise us, go through hell and back for us. No way in hell would I ditch them when they are older and vulnerable. Nor would I ever think or say that their pension isn’t gonna take care of their needs so they better watch out otherwise I won’t care for them. They have done so much for me, so I feel it’s my duty and I would be honoured to care for them if they ever need me. The older generation means no harm and are trying their best to be great parents and grandparents. Their parenting style may differ from the youngsters. If one doesn’t like it then go ahead and make some changes when it’s your turn as a parent. Change is happening but will take time. When she said the yearly rent is 220,000 , does she mean weekly or monthly? Cause that's only $240 in Australian. So is the captions having an error. If this is per week that is unbelievable CHEAP! For apartments in Australia it's usually around $360-$420 + (347,519 - 384,174 won) or that same type of apartment except here its surrounded by trees and parks and a larger bathroom. I can't afford to buy a house at the moment as its around 274,247,214 ($300,000 AUD ). Just shows that if I were to live in Korea I would be able to buy a house. But I wouldn't move from Australia, I love the laid back feel and trees and gardens everywhere.

Well you can't compare Australia to other Asian countries because the cost of living, especially in Sydney, is really high. There's a reason why the value of a dollar differs from one country to another because it depends on the country's economy. You may be earning more in Australia if converted to Korean Won but your cost of living is also high so you are spending more than you'll spend if you are living in Korea. You will never afford an apartment in OZ if you are working in Korea because the salary range is just different. So there's no point comparing when these two countries have different economic status. You can't even compare the cost of living in Sydney to New York and so as the salary.

My family live all over the world from Africa, India, UK etc so I know all to well about the comparison of the differences in the power of money. Also by people saying so much "Korea is so expensive" I was expecting the prices to be alot higher, so it was just surprising to see as an outsider how cheap it is.

Not adults, and especially not those who have paired up ( got a mate) The need for privacy is Soo REAL for us. Although, I am of clear understanding of the Eastern side of the world viewing it differently and why. Nevertheless, I'm still taken aback everytime I hear an Easterner ask a Westerner " you don't like living my mom and dad?" Straight faced, genuine and obviously perplexed. I still to this day, don't know how to reply. It just seems it's obvious that we don't but, to be asked and made to feel as if we're "mean", "weird" or so American is just so rude (AF) , insensitive and shows that some people lack the ability to see beyond their yard.
