they do have a dip stick in, it's down below. they stopped installing the long metal tube that makes it easy for you, they are forcing you to bring it to a shop with a lift, in their small petty way. obama bail outs too big to fail, auto makers said they would make up the obama epa regulations in lost sales, on service.
went looking for the yahoo/aol/msn article i had read at the time but search results only turn up newest data so i am doing something wrong:
Auto Dealerships Suffered Largest Decline In 18 Years In 2008
      By BodyShop Business Staff Writers
      Published: February 24, 2009
A record number of automotive dealerships closed in the United States during 2008, and Detroit Three dealerships took the biggest hit, research and analysis firm Urban Science reported. The company’s Franchise Activity Report showed that the nationwide dealership count for 2008 fell by 881, or 4.2 percent, to 20,084 last year.
      Related Articles
The decline was the largest since 1991 when data was first collected, with the bulk of closures occurring in the fourth quarter. Urban Science believes that surviving dealers will likely turn to service and parts to stay in business.

I look at it more as the same oil that is usually run very hot recirculating for years and years. The stuff gets worn out.
I have seen automatic transmission fluid that is not even
      ' slippery ' feeling anymore.
I recently had my cars 250,000 mile power steering pump start growling to beat hell and before changing it out I decided to try a quickie flush without it running just hooking a hose to the return line and turning the wheel back and forth till it started coming out fresher looking.
      Completely quieted it up.
I figure it might have been original totally worn out oil.
Worn out oil that doesn't lubricate very good plus friction material in it doesn't sound very good at any stage of the game.

My 2003 lpg BA falcon with a barra engine has 992,000 on the clock and still has original transmission oil and original starter, alternator and hoses it was built with, mostly all original parts still on it. Leaking head , valve and rocker cover gaskets. 2 inches of oil in each well, the plugs have been stuck in there for about 7 years. I keep it to see if I can clock it. But I wont put another 8000 k's on it before next January when the rego runs out. It has to much rust on the floor to reregister again unfortunately. I nearly made it. The barras are great engines, shame they dont make them anymore. They are very reliable motors. No dipstick on these things. So yeah, I guess it really was a life time transmission oil like they said it is. I only paid $1200 for it 8 years ago, so I definitely got my moneys worth. They are great cars.

  • @yactabay
    @yactabay 9 місяців тому +2

I have a different opinion from what’s out there for the removal of a dipstick/refill hole and this video is proof. In the past people would overfill their transmissions while the vehicle was still under warranty. They would damage the tranny by doing that. They go to the drain plug and drain out the mistake to the correct level but the damage is done. The manufacturer then has to pay for the repair and, since the level is correct again, there is no way to prove it had been overfilled even if the damage indicates overfilling. The more common beliefs are that they no longer make it easy to change your own fluid so that you have to go to the dealership to get it done or so that the transmission lasts less time making you decide to buy a new car instead of having the tranny repaired or getting a used replacement. The latter is the better option if the car is worth it.

for all thoes that haven't done a transmission service and the fluid is getting dark, just do like I did for my daughters mail vehicles, when I did her oil changes every 5 k I would also remove about 2 quarts of transmission fluid and then add back the correct fluid that I had just took out...True not a complete trans service, but it slowly kept her trans fluid looking pinkish /red again and did it gradually and no problems with the trans slipping or going bad. the filter had been changed once at 60 k and she put on another 120 k with no problems before she upgraded to a new vehicle

the old lore holds that if it's old fluid it is so full of loose friction materials new fluid will result in a slipping mess. I drop my old three-speed every 50k or so, get three quarts out (out of about nine total) Pour three fresh in. Seems to keep it all happy. I'd never just cruise on a huge scorched load of 'Dexron IX' or whatever. Dilute that damaged fluid!

That's a good tech tip. The van has over 250K on it. At this point it's so rusted we don't wash it either. Just in case the rust is holding pieces together. Keep wrenching 🔧

What a dumb cheap way of checking Trans Fluid, shame on Chrysler. Kenny I completely disagree with putting contaminated mixed old fluid back in. You just introduce a whole lot of contaminates.

The fluid was fresh overfill fluid from a PRO Master that was in a clean container. Same transmission. Same type of fluid. Thanks for watching 🔧

He's basically guessing on the fluid level. Why not drop the pan and put the correct amount of fluid in? Seems to me hes looking at the engine dipstick and guessing fluid level. Its all a guessing game here. Sheesh
