Really happy to see both Ethera and British Drama Toolkit on this list, I couldn't agree more ! I'd also add Spitfire Audio's Eric Whitacre Choir, pricey but worth it !
I've been very happy with the Studio series by Spitfire. Particularly 'Studio Brass' is very playable in terms of dynamics. The legatos are well-suited for lyrical parts, the staccatissimos for imparting energy. In terms of the more hidden patches, I've found the sforzandos very useful. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for ultra-hyped 'blaring' kind of sounds, as it doesn't really do that out of the box. I can't think of a better library for discovering the sweeter and more reflective sounds of the brass section though. Looking forward to the woodwinds release.
Quite the year! Standout deals, East West Hollywood Orchestra Diamond for $350 Various Sonokinetics BUNCH of Spitfire - ESPECIALLY the new Studio String Pro and Brass Pro! VSL SE Vol. 3 Fabfilter Sonimus Squeaked in Celemony's Melodyne Editor for $149 today. and more! great videos this year Don - THANK YOU and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Great video, that British Drama Toolkit sounds lovely and intimate, definitely captures an late 1800's English small chamber orchestra sound perfectly.
I would say Afflatus Strings by Strezov Sampling should have a honorable mention in the round-up. Quite different concept to string libraries with a very lovely tone. Time Macro by Orchestral Tools is a also very handy orchestral texture swiss knife. Thanks for this vid and all the ones produced in 2018. Wish you all the best for the upcoming 2019!
I’m beginning to lose faith in these review vids. British Dram? Seriously? Pretty, but hardly real sounding...
I'll take some bliss!
thanks for you amazing instruments Daniel!
Based in no small part by your excellent review of Spitfire’s British Drama Toolkit, I picked it up and have absolutely been loving it...Cheers Don!
Hey Rich, awesome. Thanks for sharing and I'm sure you will get a lot of usage out of BDT
