- TARJA TURUNEN with SWEDEN ROCK SYMPHONY playing the Nightwish classic "Nemo" at Sweden Rock Festival 2017, June 10th. A great performance and a great idea from Sweden Rock to join rock and classic in concert! Let's have more of this from SRF \m/
Why can you all just enjoy the music and the artists on UA-cam instead of slamming the artists! This was a One Off gig at Sweden Rock which means it's a first take! Of course everything doesn't go as planned in detail the first time in front af 32.000 people! I think the orchestra, the band, Stanway and the singers did an amazing job! I was entertained and of course it doesn't sound perfect on my 10 year old pocket camera! I love Nightwish and I like every singer for their contribution to the band! Tarja, Annette and Floor are all great singers and entertainers! Every Nightwish record is perfect in it's own way! I finally got to see Tarja and can only hope that Sweden Rock Festival will book her for 2018 as the interest in her seems pretty obvious!
To all you ppl out there who question Tarja's range.....Think about it...she's 40 NOW it's not gonna sound the same as in the 90's,...2000...2005...etc...hell Sharon from Within Temptation....does not sound the same.....She's 43....our Rock Star female Vocalist from the 90's to 2000ish aren't gonna sound the same as they were in there 20's....Hell Floor doesn't sound the same as when she was in After Forever....even tho she's only 36...when she hits 40 it'll sound differant too...get a grip ppl enjoy them while there here.....

MrKingmaze, you haven't much listened Tarja lately then? Her voice is quite as good (actually she has plenty of new skills now) than in her highest days in Nightwish. Just hear this concert 2018 in Moscow.

I really don't understand why Tarja's fans hate Floor and Floor's fans hate Tarja.
I appreciate both singers and I've been studying music for so long to see that both singers has bad moments, also they are no able to sing in a good way all the time.
Floor is a great singer, but there are some songs that I don't like when she sings, the same way with Tarja.
The problem is if we make a comment an observation about a concert, or about the bad vocals on a certain song, there's a lot of fans that think we are saying something bad...
Despite I like a singer, it doesn't mean that can't hear when that singer sang bad in a concert, or that this singer doesn't have any problem at all.
There are many fans that even when their favorite singer sings extremely bad, they don't recognize it.

I don't understand these "Floor Knights" - last I knew Tarja and Floor are friends and respect each other. I highly doubt Floor would approve of such actions. I seriously want to know why this particular group is so threatened by Tarja. Tarja will never come back to NW and Floor seems to have embraced Toumas's way of thinking, so as long as she dances to his tune, she'll be secure in the band. So - why all the stalking on youtube, the down votes, and trash talk? Hhmmmm?

I didn't know either that there were Floor fan that thrashed Tarja. Honestly, why would someone do that? They're friends, they respect each other and each other's work, they collab, etc. And they don't even have the same style at all, so why compare? Tarja was the first Nightwish vocalist, and she put her mark on the mind of every symphonic metal fan and band, because she was one of the first vocalists of the genre. Floor too, with After Forever, but, then, I didn't hear anyone talking trash about any one of the two, because they had their own band, and people liked them all the same.
I don't understand why, now that Floor fronts Nightwish, people would feel the need to hate on Tarja, or the other way around.
People are dumb.
On another note, I'm sure Floor enjoys taking it "easy" and letting Tuomas do nearly all the work for the band, what with her burn out a few years ago, and now with her little one (having a kid is hard enough as it is).
Because Tarja can sing. (Obviously Floor can sing) but if Tarja is the meassure Floor is only a 8/10 for nightwish songs. They cant accept the fact so they go into the classical modern denial rage!
Never been a hardcore Nightwish fan, I listen to songs I like when I want to hear em,sometimes I want Floor and sometimes I want Tarja.
The point beeing, I think Tarja is better but I really dont care. Noth are good but a fanatic is and will always be a fanatic. They can only react with hate when something shatters their world

All of you angry Nightwish fans that criticize Anette and Floor, and that are disappointed of this performance, are you finally getting it? Bands change, voice changes, people change. I personally love how Tarja is experimenting with her voice, she deserves it! I mean, she’s been pleasing you with her old voice technique for what... 20 years? Are you not satisfied with it? Tarja is singing with her chest voice because she WANTS to, not bc her vocal technique has declined, so she proves once again she's versatile. But idiots will always find a reason to complain.There have been 3 vocalists singing this song and each of them sung it in the way it suited them best, do I dont see how Anette or Floor could sing it the way it suited them best, and Tarja couldnt. Idiotic biased people everywhere.

@@hats0id Sure Nightwise is a few step upwards. I haven't listened but a fraction what Tarja has recorded during her solo career. But her albums have dozens of in top ten ranks in many countries lists. And if you think getting in top 10, is easy in countries like Germany and Italy... think again. And it probably was most important to Tarja to do what she loves, create her own stuff.

For some reason she mostly sings with her chest voice lately, even her own songs. It does sound good with some tracks, but not with others. For Nemo she should stick to her head voice.

The sound quality of the video is a bit flat, maybe it was too loud but also the other singers sound very well.

Now her voice is lower and darker than before... isn't it? I know that every voice changes during the years, but hers has become almost a different one 😱
colei che mi si crede I agree, she sounds very different. Her voice started even changing in 2005, but it's all because of her vowel pronunciation and use of complete chest voice. Her vowels are very "wide" now which gives a less classical and more throaty sound.
Not an expert, just repeating what a voice coach says in video: she is a soprano with dark colour voice. That was during Nightwish years.
For all Tarja fans that spam every nightwish video with "We want Tarja back" as long as you know that this is impossible. Do you want this tarja to sing for nightwish or the 2005's Tarja? Is she better now than Floor?

well, I don't know what to say. I don't want to offend her - but I can't find that spirit and magic anymore that she always carried with her in former times. she steadily seems to gasp for breath and be not able to catch up with her former great voice range. sad.
Have you been following her 1-2 years back or are you talking just like that out of the blue? Do you know in how many projects she's involved and how much energy each one of them demands of her? I'm not a singer, but I can imagine that she's trying her best for each performance. On top of that, she looks amazing if you consider the fact that she's 40, she's dancing on the stage and delivering a stunning amount of energy every time. I'd suggest listening to her classical stuff or for example the recent covers of Rammstein's ohne Dich and Slipknot's Vermillion. After you've listened to those, try telling me again that you don't feel the spirit and magic she always brought to the stage.
Marin Ivic I have followed and watched her. Not every song but constantly and frequently. But I can't find it anymore. Perhaps she's doing too much. In my opinion the main resource of a good singer is quality not quantity.
Same here. Although I watched her live four months ago and everything went exceptionally great. I don't know what's wrong with these videos... they just don't reflect reality or... they always catch her in the worst moments nowadays.

When I see hers performances back then with NW, especially for this song, I can't say anything positive. Big difference in performance now. I am sad about that.

Alright, I wasn't there and can only judge from this footage so no offense. I was a huge Tarja lover in the past but unfortunately have to say her best years are sort of over. She had lots of awesome, powerful and lovely concerts in the past, I saw so many of them and loved the hell out of it, but she is struggling here, trying very hard and it seems she wants to be something that she isn't. It's very sad because she is awesome and has lots of faithful and great fans and could just be herself without a shell. Considering her age as much as the time and experience on stage and in studio, I don't see this happening anymore with her. Maybe it's time to call it a career. And no, please don't strawman me, I don't say she should stop singing and performing, it's just not realistic to expect immense success or a huge comeback at this point anymore. No bad intentions and no hate, just realism.
She should've focused more on classical singing, metal music hasn't done good for her voice.
Hey, just check her last performance in Finland or Genelec, Masters of Rock or Woodstock, there you have an array of classical and rock singing that should be enough to prove you wrong. Buy the Ave Maria cd, the Spirits and Ghosts one.... man I always cringe at people that judge two decades of singing by some performances they do not like, there are so many but so many videos everywhere from only the last year alone that I could post to prove you wrong, but I guess people like the doomsday porn "oh she is done, she cannot sing, her good days are gone", rofl. Her range has grown exponentially, she singes higher and lower than she ever did. Yes she has bad performances, mostly festivals but that has nothing to do with her vocal abilities declining but her experimentation.

I don't think I've ever seen this happen before, usually singers decline in range, but I think Tarja's voice now sits slightly higher than in the Nightwish days. Consequently she shouded better on the original, but I the answer now might be to raise the key. Rather odd.
She used chest voice to do lower note instead of operatic mix register (overdrive), she went even deeper than in the original and did stuff like glissandos, would the sound be of better quality (Like a studio album) it would probably sounds more rich and complex.It is Nemo on chest voice.

Eso es obvio, no canta como hace 12 años, la voz envejece también. Pero cuando canta clásico, canta demasiado bien, quizás no canta con todas sus energías
En realidad, y claramente, no es lo mismo cantar metal con tintes líricos que cantar un aria de opera, zarzuela, lied, etc. Ella utiliza mucho mas su voz de pecho para el metal, para quizá no hacerlo tan lírico. De alguna manera encuentro que ella quiere abrirse o dejar de ser considerada "la cantante que suena a opera" pero no del todo ya que ese es su distinción en el mundo del metal.
Cuando canta música clásica es magistral y ahí te das cuenta que no perdió su voz en lo mas mínimo sino que en el metal ella se libera y canta como se le da la gana.
está usando una técnica diferente para cantar, que es la voz de pecho y no la lírica

She did perform them for nearly a decade. It might irk Tuomos but she has every right to sing these songs as she wants.
Steven Adams Unfortunately that's not true. There's something called copyright. In Tarja's case it means that, because she didn't (co-)write the song she has no ownership of it. The factual writer is still in the band and Tarja isn't, so therefore she has no right to perform these songs outside the band, unless the writer and Tarja have come to some sort of an agreement. In the case of an agreement, it could mean that Tarja has to pay the writer for the right to perform those songs in public. However, the terms and conditions of the agreement are rightfully set by the writer.

Always found her mannerisms to be somewhat awkward and funny, but that's Tarja. She's looking great here.

She can probably do better with synthesizer accompaniment and without the orchestra..Also,i believe she has an auditorium voice which is true of most opera singers..I would almost bet money that if she had ditched the orchestra ,acquired a synth player and been in an auditorium,she would have sounded as she did with NIghtwish...

I like Tarja but this was by far her worst performance vocally. She needs to keep up with her practicing. She doesn't even sound like she did live from before.... And before people slam me I like her a lot but not a fan of this live performance. Anyone can admit she sang way better previously
