- I found this old dvd and it had The Degrassi Story Documentary hosted by Stefan Brogren aka Snake. Filmed back in 2005 all credits are at the end of the 45 minute special. First aired on CTV in Canada. Not sure if our American friends got to see this special. I'm adding it here as part of my interview collection.
And now it's been 20 years of Degrassi The Next Generation. Talk about feeling old.

I remember the first day I saw degrassi, it was truly a turning point in my life.
This show was everything!! I am so fortunate to have grown up on the original genius, they are all so well done but there is nothing like the original junior high and high school series!

Omg I literally cried at the ending line. Where he said, “and someday, the next generation will feel that too”. I’m the “next generation” age, and I’m feelin it. 😭
42 years later and it’s still a groundbreaking show. I can’t believe that this show started before I was born , I watched it when I was 8/9 in the eighties on pbs .I watched the new generation in my 20/ 30s and the class with my daughter. To say the least, this show has been with me my entire life.
Awe. I was 12 when it came out and I loved watching the series.
Ya know what I say you've had a good show to follow in your life. When the Next Generation ended I didn't follow anymore but the memories from everything up to that point were awesome. And they weren't afraid to touch on any topic

I’ll be 50 yrs old in March, so it’s the oldies for me!..I recently started watching reruns of The kids of Degrassi Street & Degrassi Jr High!..and my goodness I had forgotten just how much I had loved this show and had looked forward to watching it “back in the day!”..lol..
Degrassi will forever be a part of my favourite memories from childhood!..
Thank you to the creators of Degrassi, and the actors who were all amazing!..For coming into our lives when we needed it most!..Giving us something as confused adolescents and teens to relate to!..❤

Happy Birthday Melinda. I just turned 51 in April, so I know what you mean. Classic original Degrassi will always be my fave. Too bad neither Kit Hood nor Neil Hope are not here with us physically anymore. However, their spirits are watching from above and they know they are still loved and missed by everyone.
The three dislikes are from Rick, Mr. Raditch, and Heather Sinclair.
I was sad when I heard that Neil Hope died a couple of years after this documentary. I related a lot to Wheels, I grew up with grandparents.

Sadly Wheels his character in real life as Neil and sadly he blamed other people for his problems and his drinking problems and his diabetic problems I hope he's at peace now such a tragic ending for your life to end in a rooming house that's so sad and lonely and I hope that the woman he was going to marry I hope she's okay too

Degrassi High was very popular in Sweden on the English learning child/teen programme and I loved watching it. I'm currently re watching the series at 46 years old. Fond teen memories

This is very well produced . It's like seeing friends from my childhood !
I wish they would have a Original reunion with the cast. That would be awesome. Loved watching is the 80’s as a teen

The old Degrassi was so tragic. Wheels went through hell compared to TNG characters. Can’t believe the character killed a kid and went to prison 💀
Tbh i miss wheels he reminds me of my boy except without the heavy issues wheels was dealt with a really hand tried his best to overcome his demons but unfourtnately things happened rip wheels good dude but bad a hard time overcoming issues
I knowww but it was in the 80s-90s so bringing stuff like that was like ok and not seen as a reason to “censor”

Thank you so much for posting this! Degrassi Jr High and High was the only teen show my dad would watch with me. We really appreciated the Canadian content, the real teens (not 20 year olds portraying teens) and the realistic storylines. I’m happy Degrassi still lives on.
Wow! This is like a Christmas present! I loved this Degrassi and Degrassi Jr High when I watched them back in the 80s.
As a bullied kid who often had to avoid going to school, these kids on the show felt kind of like my friends.
What great shows.

OMG, I remember seeing this documentary a long time ago!!!! So glad to see it finally uploaded.
The Zit Remedies were together on many episodes, but I don't remember them playing anything but that one song. And there's Snake, who barely could play the guitar and he had like six or seven different pretty cool guitars. All for one dumb song that most of the time lasted about 15 seconds. I love this show!

I grew up with TNG and only after covid did I finally watch junior high and high, I tried to watch the kids of degrassi st but i couldn't get into it but man I loved degrassi high
Spike getting pregnant was the most memorable part of the show for me as a kid.

Stefan Brogren has one thing in common with the Late Kirk Douglas and Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott #2) on Y & R. They all attended The American Academy of Dramatic arts and won awards. Kirk won an honorary oscar and was also awarded at the AADA. Peter debuted as Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children 1979-1989 and then hit Pay Dirt on Y & R. He's the only actor who's been working on soaps non stop and a very lucky one. He's probably one of the most successful and best recasts in Soap History.
Degrassi will always be a part of me.

it’s sad that Pat was hoping to sell the car to a fan and it ended up going to someone who just wanted to resell it 😅 it was also kind of a weird thing to include in the documentary in general

I like how found the guy play wheels before 2007 because that’s when he passed away. Imagine if they still didn’t have contact with him🙁 I randomly got a recommendation of Degrassi jr and that’s how I found a series. Watching this video really reminded me how much I love the original Degrassi especially Joey Jeremiah😗 I still watch TNG one too, I love that one too. Everything pass season 7 or 8 that’s where I had to force myself watching it
I used to love Degrassi Jr High. I still remember the opening song. I am now 48yrs old .. talk about feeling old 😄

It’s bittersweet. I grew up on TNG (seasons 1-7) but also watched KODS, DJH,DH, and schools out. I was born in 1990 and started watching TNG in 2002. Didn’t even KNOW there was an original degrassi until The-N/Noggin(network that playing TNG) would play throwback scenes from the original. And of course during the show there would be references
Degrassi Jr and High were the shows I watched as a child.... WTTW Chicago Channel 11.
Degrassi TNG was my favourite show 20+ years ago when I was a kid! The show worked so well because they chose kids with little to no acting experience so the dialogue felt very real.
I love the show grown up watch it and still watch … The producers and actors did a great job .

Yes loved this show ,it was on here in Australia as well as Grange Hill ,a UK version of this but it had been going since the 70s.
Oh boy. That ending messed me up. Taking about how a new generation will look back at TNG with nostalgia for what life was like. Ugh that time is NOW. I'm not okay.

yeah, we didn't get school's out in ny until 1994. i t was also edited and of course they cut out the cursing and for some reason near drowning scene. didn't know the movie existed because ther was really no internet until 1995.
The Caitlin /Joey dynamic was the 80’s version of Mr Big/Carrie on SATC

It’s really sad that the guy who played Wheels passed away due to drinking 2 years after.. he looked really sad here like he needed a purpose.

Guiding Light's Budget was so bad they had to use Old School Cameras and salary cuts. It was cancelled 15 years ago on September 18th.

Apparently according to episode writer Susin Nielsen the Junior high janitor Louella died off screen from injuries sustained from the school fire!

Interviews with TNG was kinda crappy for them to talk "down" in any way about the OGs. For example about Pat/Joey. Without him/them, y'all wouldn't have a show 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
I've always found it irritating when TNG cast members/fans act dismissive of the OG show. I hope to god they're not still doing that today, because TNG is now also very old and therefore open to the same treatment
The best character in season one was Stephanie Kay….shocked that she left before season 2. Great character!
She was given an opportunity to star in a different show. She took it, but it flopped. I was surprised she never came back.

She was a great character. Do you know the story about her missing tooth? It seems weird that they would have her on screen like that instead of putting in a fake tooth. Just curious about that.
It seems to me that the kids of The Next Generation sound very unappreciative and entitled. Saying things like: Pat is always trying to give me advice on how to play a scene...when he hasn't done this for 14 years! Instead, instead he should recognize that he has been doing this since he was a child AND did win a Gemini Award for his work, maybe he knows what he's doing.
TNG kid also made the comment that they're just trying to recreate the old degrassi but with more money, better wardrobe. Sheesh....!

The second statement isn’t incorrect, they have a bigger budget to work with meaning they can get an actual wardrobe person rather than having the cast members dress themselves
@@kawaiipanda4013 Also, the second reason why they would have them to dress themselves is to make it look like they are their age. Buget reasons and to make it look more reasonable. But exactly, I feel like this person have selective hearing and kind of sees eveything negatively.

I grew up watching this show in the 80’s, these characters were a huge part of my life. I recently went down a Degrassi rabbit hole and tore through the entire series again. It’s such a beautiful time capsule of a show. It captured the life of a young Canadian kid growing up to a tee. It’s 2023 and I need a Degrassi reunion show in my life. RIP Wheels.
Dayo Ade would have been perfect on a Soap Opera. So many Canadian Actors did well on US Soaps. Tracey Bregman, Jess Walton (Lauren & Jill Y & R), Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery AMC). William Devry (Michael Cambias AMC, & Stephen "Storm" Forrester B & B) and Marc Menard (Boyd Larrabee AMC).
Yup, Degrass jumped the shark with Jay & Silent Bob. I get it, I grew up in New Jersey and watched the show on Channel Thirteen and I would have jumped at the chance to appear on an episode.

Isn't it cool how they are drinking Tea, then Tea become synonymous with The Show. Also how they dealt with LGBT Issues was so inspiring. Can you imagine how many kids they helped and whose souls they healed with These Storylines.
I was a late coming to degrassi i believe i was in my parents room watching wrestling and it went to commercial i saw it and i had to just see how it was and went interesting show that goes thru heavy issues that all teens and young adults and the aftermath of it

The one positive thing I loved about Degrassi is that there was no star tripping with the kids. On American Soil, kids were spoiled, and didn't get their proper education and lifeskill lessons.

It was revolutionary when they let spike keep going to school..back in 92 we had 1 girl get pregnant and they tossed her out when she couldn't hide it anymore..we kept saying spike got to come back to school and rallied so she could come back and finish highschool..if they had their way she would've only technically finished halfway through junior year
As all the eras of degrassi finished it really is the story of Archie Simpson lol
