Remember first he visits the ship and it gives him the knowledge, then he asks for Zods' corpse, then he sets out to experiment with it and last Doomsday is born. The one thing I will say is that I don't understand how he got into contact with Steppenwulf this leading me to believe that he used the ship itself to contact make contact with him and Darkseid (kind of the reason we see Steppenwulf in thar one scene dissolving in the air, remember how in MoS the Krytptonians contacted each other and how Jor-El taught Clark about Krypton). You need to use information from more than just one movie to put the pieces together.
