And just like that Huub pulls a 25-year boat-building veteran out of his hat--will wonders never cease? Learning lots from Rolf, you're one lucky sailor, Huub! Great to see the keel repair commencing under the tutelage of an expert! 🐇🧙🏼♂️🪚🛠⛵️
Well, it's clear that Robin brings a whole new dimension to this stage of the boat's reconstruction. It's always good to get help, but Robin is a professional and he seems to have turned up at the right time, too.
How lovely our friend has come to help and a professional boat builder/repair wonderful so pleased for you and delighted the job is going to be done professionally correctly perfectly and above all else stronger than before. Keep buggering on guys you’re doing great.
The yellow thing is a non hull penetration transducer. It shoots through solid glass and you dont have a hole to worry about in the boat. It in working order is filled with glycol. The black foam is insulation that goes around the inside circumference of the box. the foam stops echos and noise from the boat its self. As to the keel, I strongly suggest making some patterns PLYWOOD drill holes and screw them to the outside keel and hull interface in an L shape. take measurements of there locations. these will be patterns that would allow you to put the keel back in its exact original location. The trick is do not loose the screw holes. Also use diamond or carbide GRIT bits with the multi tool. they last way longer cutting FRP then anything toothed. Toothed blades over heat, the second they over heat they loose there temper and dull. USE a vacuum USE a vacuum USE a vacuum when cutting. Any rotary or oscillating tool that cuts masonry, cement, brick and tile works on fiberglass wonderful. drill some holes in the bottoms of the keels to let he water drain out of them.
What a great opportunity to have such talent help you sort this out and show all of us what that means. Always be thinking about the titles of your videos - thats what will drive new viewers
Similar repair job for Madds on his damaged cat ... but he's done more structural glass work. So good you have an experienced teacher .. and a fellow Dutch man. 🤞🏼 They moulded the keels with the hull sides ... they then infilled with the foam and capped it with a thin skin to walk on . The foam pushing up has broken the floor . That's why I prefer separate keel mouldings bonded onto the hull bottoms ...that way if they break open or off ...they still shouldn't sink the boat or let water seep in. I know they build cats light wherever practical but this seems to be under thickness given that fixed keels should be able to support the boats wt.
An inside look at the construction of those keels really makes you wonder how problems didn't show up earlier . Reinforce both keels after seeing that construction fraud ! Excellent video !
Fantastic work being done with the Preparation .. Your Friend Really Knows what he is doing .. and you can Learn lots from Him 😊 Plenty 🍺 🍻 🍺 to wash down the Dust 😅 Stay Free and Safe
Komt vast in orde .
Man, you are into it now! You are so lucky to have great help like this. This is way byond my pay grade too. You guys are doing great. Just look at the fun that your Novia is missing.
Glad to see keel repairs are underway. Some good new and some not so good during investigation. I hope all continues to go well and you are soon back in the water.
All this damage is a problem for you Huub but unusual repairs like this are extremely interesting for us! I love seeing how other people solve technical problems. Keep up the good work and your resolve!
I am so happy and excited for you!!!! The repairs can be made with a professional. You'll be back in the water in no time. Congratulations on your new boat home. It's beautiful. Can't wait to watch you out there, sailing in style. 😊🎉❤
We replaced a 5 ft section of our deck and I thought it was alot, this makes me feel better lol! Good luck man!! Glad to see you guys making good progress!
I dont envy you having to cut n grind fibreglass with the added heat of the Caribbean ,I had 4 months out there 15years ago and I ended up repairing a totally knackered 40 footer that needed a full rebuild,I had to do what I could whilst I the water it was hell, hang to jump in the sea every 5 mins to remove the glass fibre dust off me and help close the spores of my skin which open up with the heat and the the dust is near torture ,anyway well done you’re doing everything correctly and with living on the boat at the same time that’s not at all easy ,,,keep at it you’re going well and that lass of youres is worth her weight in gold
Good friends with skills should be cherished. What an exciting repair to make with an actual boat builder. I imagine Daniela is getting full updates on a regular basis and it must be a mental relief for her to know this repair is being done very well, allowing her to concentrate more on her studies. Be safe and keep your mask on when working with that nasty dust!
🌴 well Huub I have to say being a retired boat and yacht builder of 32 years “ I’m just itching “ to see you and your friend do the repairs , make sure you drill a hole in the lowest point in the bottom of the keel to get all the water out , and it has to be dry or the moisture will mess up your epoxy , I was surprised at the laminate being so thin I would of thought it to be much more structural as the keel would take a lot of pounding or being able to hit bottom first, well guys have fun , 👍🏼
I have no experience in boat building or repair but a concern I want to express is making an excellent repair on one keel with much heavier use of materials and how it will effect the balance of the boat. Sorry I had to mention it. Thats all you need right, comments from the uninformed, smiling. Love your videos and thank you for sharing.
Look at that a week later and one step closer to getting into the water. Great start and thankfully the damage is not something your friend is overly stressed about this is really not as bad as it seems but I'm sure it will be a little difficult in some of the spots under the bulkhead but it's just a different repair that most people would be hesitant to actually accomplish but they don't have a real life experience like the expert you have brought to the boat and I can see you are thankful for his knowledge of how this stuff is being done for an even better job in the end. Great job dialing everything back to The good structure that's left in this video.
Very impressed with the credentials of your boat repair associate. Did he come all of the way from the Netherlands with his expensive tools to help you? Countless hours of work compressed into a 27 minute vlog, very impressive. As I see more and more of the boat and keel being cut away I keep wondering when is the whole keel going to fall off. I hope your other viewers are enjoying your boat repair as much as I am.
you guys have a lot of sanding ahead you but worth it in the long run. take care and have a wonderful week ahead and i will see you guys on next Sundays video
When relocating industrial machinery we would make a disconnecting register and label the cables and hoses with white insulation tape and a permanent marker plus a photo tag and if the cable has more cores we would label each one. Hope this helps.))
Hi guys, good to see you’re pulling things apart to put them back together again. Where’s your girlfriend you need to cook and bottlewasher? Gotta keep feeding yourselves keep your strength up , Cliff from Australia

You're friend is very good & his suggestion of doing the repairs with epoxy is great it has a far better bond strength to the old polyester
The right guy for this task!

Learning from and working with a knowledgeable boat repair builder.
If you can get a shop vac you can vacuum while it is being cut to eliminate all that fiberglass dust😁
Really I thought vacuum sucked

Goed om te zien dat sinds je begrijpt dat deze reperatie boven je eigen expertise uitgaat je de hulptroepen inroept en leert van hun kennis.

It's a 2k Raymarine M265LH In-Hull CHIRP Transducer
thank you!
Gebruik je om de bodem en alles ertussen te zien als echo registratie op je scherm.
Oooh, a fishfinder ! So this Cat has quite useful gadgets onboard. Keep it well, because a replacement will cost more than 1k.
Water soon...lol good video bro good luck😊
Hi guys, good to see you’re pulling things apart to put them back together again. Where’s your girlfriend you need to cook and bottlewasher? Gotta keep feeding yourselves keep your strength up , Cliff from Australia
It’s an airman transducer, for sonar retails for around $2500 don’t lose the piece of cork that goes around it. If can ping about 3000’ deep.
Your friend is going to be a massive UA-cam star! 😂
