I backed this specifically for ice breaking activities, being a Scrum Master working with big IT teams. Thus I never thought of it as a game that would specifically appeal to me, but instead as a easy-to-teach and quick activity for a larger group. It holds up to that. For me personally I absolutely adore the quality of the production. Specifically the wagons, the dice and the box are extremely beautiful. Bought all Facade Games to display them after having this.

We have enjoyed this as a family and with friends. Love to play with all the powers and coins. To me it is a 3 out of 5 and at some point it will probably leave, but for now we are enjoying the chaos.

Yep, I totally get it as a 3/5. I almost put it there. The main distinction between a 2.5 and 3 for me, is a 2.5 I'll play but won't suggest, a 3 I'll suggest depending on the right group. I'll play Bristol, but I can't see myself ever suggesting it.

I agree with your overall score.
I've played it a few times on Tabletopia and, yeah, everyone dies. I didn't feel there was that much social deduction because so many people were infected and nobody ever "won" a game. It really came down to most people getting infected and then trying to prevent anyone else from winning, rather than trying to figure out who the one or two "baddies" were and having a chance of someone making it out alive.
It would be better if it was just a "racing" game without the infection mechanic.

Super surprised and happy to see this review. I got this game randomly as a gift (had never heard of it before) and haven't played it yet. unfortunately your review confirmed my suspension after reading the rules, that this game likely isn't for me. And getting that optimal player count is damn near impossible right now.... it's super nice when people try to buy you games cause they know you love them but man is it dicey in what you might get without specifically telling them what you want lol.

You should try it out first. I have this for grandparents because they won't ever play if I whup their asses every time and sometimes they need a touch of luck to win. That's their favourite games for the most part. Christmas is coming up if you celebrate it, time for a gathering and a game of it before you throw it out with the bathwater imo

Unfortunately this one fell flat for me. I was pulled in by the card artwork and the premise, but my expectations were different than what the game actually offers. I was intrigued with the mixture of deduction and racing, but what this game truly is at heart is a racing game. Not a deduction game. Whether you have the plague or not is randomly determined (with the addition of the unknown card during the mingling and the known expectation that everyone will bounce around the carts trying to beat each other out of town) so there isn’t really a reason to suspect or accuse someone of having the plague. You really just want to race out of town as fast as possible and hope you got lucky with a healthy cart. I will note that I only played this at 4 so the experience may be better at the higher player counts. Overall, I would play again if asked, but it wouldn’t be one I recommend.

How do you compare this to their other game Tortuga 1667?

Solid rating. I was disappointed overall when I got my copy. It was fun for a while, but a little too chaotic for the strategic gamers in our group. I expect Feed the Kraken will demolish all other social deduction games when it arrives!
... if it arrives with this shipping container economy :(

I backed this when I first got into KS without really knowing what I was backing just because it was successful and looked fun. Before it arrived and I thought about the game I knew I didn't actually want it. It sounds like a luck fest where more often than not everyone just dies. I flipped it as soon as it came in the mail. No Regerts.

Ya I was on the fence during the KS, I like the premise, the execution is too random.

There's also Plague Inc for people who want to kinda play Pandemic in the role of the virus.
