@@obriens_boxing_chapel I mean it's underrated in most countries around the world - only the Scandinavian countries and Canada really give hockey respect. Relax.

@@obriens_boxing_chapel ...are you ok? You're saying multiple things, none of which have anything to do with each other. You automatically assumed the OP was American based on his comment - I tried to correct you that hockey is underrated in most of the countries of the world. His comment alone doesn't say anything about where he's from. It's the norm, not the exception.
Now you're talking about it not being #1 anywhere outside Canada....brother, I never mentioned anything about ranking. I just listed the places where it's taken seriously. That's it. You need to take a chill pill.

I appreciate that this compilation had a bunch of goals out of the KHL (which for awhile was the 2nd best league in the world, and may still be despite many teams leaving due to the war), as well as other European leagues. The KHL had some of the greatest shootout goals of all-time that aren’t widely shown due to it being Russian hockey and NHL being much more viewed and shown in media.

The goalies stay in all night unless they're injured, give up a lot of goals in a game, or are ejected, which is very rare. The Boston starting goalie got tossed from a playoff game this spring for punching a player, and there was another one this season who hit someone with the blocker glove (the hand that holds the stick is protected by a blocker)

TJ Oshie’s percentage on the shootout is 48% average over the span of his (ongoing) career.
Might not seem like a lot but it’s really, really really good.
His best was a season of 80% on 12 shots.
He is the shootout king. Has a few in this compilation.
Would love to see you react to his best shootout goals ❤️

For reference @ 5:10 Sidney Crosby's first shootout attempt against a Canadian team (his home country) once shootouts were brought back in instead of ties. The call was great "welcome to the Crosby show, Canada!" as he flips the water bottle. - It was iconic more than it was good. So it appeals to people who know the context.
I still call the leg kick "the Crosby" even though I know it was generated way earlier.
Also if you guys want a vid idea, look into the Marek Malik shootout goal vid. It does a deep-dive in what lead up to it.

Growing up I had a buddy who every winter his dad would make a rink in the backyard and we’d go over there and practice shootouts for hours as kids, lots of people don’t like it in hockey but it’s a fun part of the game for sure

Regarding your penalty kick comments…in the early days of MLS in wanting to make it more Americanized they did a 35 yard shootout. Player had X amount of time to score, but it was similar to a hockey shootout.

One of the only times a line would be on for 2mins is if they're stuck in their end and can't make a line change.
By that point they're gassed from puck chasing and it frequently leads to a goal against.

Dont know if you noticed, but in a lot of these youll see the players do a little leg kick thing. That typical signals when the player is going to shoot so they do a fake one to trick the goalie.

As an American sports fan in his 50s, I watch pretty much most sports. NFL, MLB, NHL NBA, when I was in my 30s I came across Australian rules football which I thoroughly enjoy, and when my youngest daughter started playing soccer in the early 2000s I became a big fan of the Premier league. I’ve seen most soccer leagues. I’m not a fan of the MLS, Italy dives way too much, La Liga is pretty good. I haven’t seen a whole lot of the French and German leagues but when it comes to soccer, the PremierLeague is the best for me. All that being said there’s not a sport I’ve watched in my life that comes close to hockey. Speed, aggression, physicality and beauty, that’s what the NHL that’s what hockey is. There’s so many great hockey videos out there. Hope to see you check it out more.

It's true, at pro levels they only stay on for like 1 minute at a time max. if youre a top player you might get like 20~ mins of ice time a night t (defense get a bit more), which is 1/3 of the game. The amount of energy it takes is crazy, after 45 seconds if you're not in shape you'll be bent over the gasping.

  • @spacetiger5076

Chipping a puck is pretty easy, actually. The flat outer edge of the puck is pebbled with tiny little bumps, and then you’ve got the friction tape on the hockey stick blades. You can flip that sucker all day long. When I was a kid we used to make a little game of trying to hit the ceiling of the rinks by flipping pucks way up there.
Edit to clarify, I mean the outer edge of the ring of the puck, not the flat top and bottoms. These are smooth.
