To answer your question about the players being at the draft or at home, usually only the players that know they will be drafted in the 1st round will be at the actual draft. Anyone that knows they are a later pick wont be there, most of the time
The broadcast gets delayed, especially in the middle/later rounds as they can’t just speed through, they announce the picks and have to talk about the players. But the teams just submit the names into the online things the teams use and then the next team is free to submit so there doesn’t have to be as long as a delay between picks in terms of using their allocated time to make a selection if they know who they want. Announcing them all immediately would make the broadcast harder.
