there's been a lot of talk about how good the M3 Max is. what are your thoughts on comparing the M2 Ultra Mac Studio vs the M3 Max MacBook Pro 16" at the same $4,000 price?
Comparing Mac Studio vs MacBook Pro is more fair at a lower price point for the Mac Studio since you aren't getting the laptop components, but M3 Max should be more efficient and faster single core, while M2 Ultra slightly better in multi-core (but almost the same). At this point, better to wait for M3 Max Mac Studio for much cheaper or M3 Ultra Mac Studio if desktop performance is most important.

No, the higher rated power brick is _not_ "free" in the higher spec models. The price is simply not separately listed.
Wait 6-12 Month until Price is falling. Then it is more worth it!
Patience can definitely save you lots of money!
If you are normal user, get M3 Base. If you are slightly intermediate, go for M3 Pro base.
I'd say "normal" users should probably go for the MacBook Air to save even more.

A marketing triumph it has been, to make the abbreviation "pro" into some sort of status symbol.
Always get the base model. In my experience that has the best resale value.
Agreed that base models are usually the best value and resale value. Although sometimes they have one or two specs that are just not ideal.
