I gotta break a spear for their manager, Christopher Gierke, who appears in the video. He picked up Johnny Thunders when his career was at an all-time low and got him back into music fans’ consciousness slowly and steadily. Got him to tour regularly again all over the world, got him a great record deal with a label that stuck with him through thick and thin, Jungle Records, got him a bit of financial stability. This is great work he did there. What he couldn’t give him was a stable band, instead of the pick-up musicians he worked with for most of the 1980s. And, of course, he threw in the towel in 1986. Now he manages a Polo club in Mongolia, I think. A manager that every band should have....
I always thought it was Lee Black Childers who got Johnny a deal with Jungle Records that brought People interested in Johnny again in the the UK at least. and I remember reading an article about Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers in a monthly punk magazine it was called Punk Lives? It could have been written by Kris Needs? Featured amongst those other 1980's mawhawk poseur punk bands who were just pathetic. I don't know if C. G had anything to do with him in the UK. What pissed me off the most about the Heartbreakers' career is. Their manager in 1976-77 was Lee Black Childers. He was a photographer that was part of mainman. Bowie's entourage in the early 70's. Bowie learned how to manipulate the press into making out a star when he really wasn't but it worked. Bowie had a photographer mate called Mick Rock who constantly fined video of Bowie which are now iconic. Why didn't Lee Black Childers buy a fkn camcorder and film the Heartbreakers and make videos for them each time they released a record. The video was gonna immortalise you Gigs and word of mouth just weren't enough to get you far. I really think that because the Heartbreakers never even bothere to make a single video for Born to Lose of Chinese Rocks was a disaster for them. Look at the Pistols. They had a video for every single they ever made except for Holidays in the sun. An I right or am I wrong??? And Chinese Rocks was the worst choose to put on their debut A Side single. The A. Side should have been ' Born to Lose' Not only was it a better song . It would have had more chance of getting airplay and maybe have got them on TV. The BBC used to ban loads of bands and records for the most trivial pathetic reasons. Releasing a song about heroin as your first single was just commercial suicide. They blew it right from the start.
