General Guide based on transcript ⬇️ Protected Time: Designating specific times each week for important activities, such as writing or exercise, that should not be interrupted. Daily Themes: Assigning particular focuses to different days of the week, like having no meetings on Mondays to allow for deep work or designating certain days for specific roles or tasks. Regular Rules and Limits: Establishing consistent practices or boundaries to manage time effectively, such as limiting the number of meetings in a day or scheduling lighter workdays. Categories and Bullet Points: Organizing the weekly template in a clear format, often as a bulleted list, that outlines the elements of an ideal week.
I just wanted to say that the question and answer at 42:30 was one of the best moments on the podcast in a long time. It’s refreshing to hear questions from people who are genuinely struggling, like those who have lost their jobs, and to see Cal respond with empathy and practical advice. These kinds of questions-from people facing tough challenges, starting their careers, or coming from less privileged backgrounds-can have a much broader impact than those from individuals already in high-earning positions. Just some honest feedback: I hope Cal and Jessie see this. Focusing on these types of questions could truly make a difference and help those who need it most
Honestly finding you has been the biggest blessing in my LIFE lately 😅 As an almost 30 year old who has never planned a thing I in her LIFE finding your work feels like I've finally found peace as well as the antidote to my wildly chaotic existence haha PLANNING AND STRUCTURE! Wow Im really starting out as a major rookie in the concept of planning at all and I can't thank you enough for making this so comprehendible and easy to understand 🙏🏽😭 Currently listening to "So good they can't ignore you" on my daily mid workday beach walks and it's creating a massive shift in the way I approach my work, business & skills. Big, big thank you for your work in the world my friend. Its greatly appreciated. I can't WAIT to build my weekly template now that i'm getting clear on my deep life structure ahh sigh of so much relief lol 💫💪🏽
I have known of Cal Newport for one month now. And it goes to show his slow productivity style, and his excellent content, that he did not post any podcast for 2 weeks, but I kept checking for the latest podcast multiple times a week.
The timing of this episode is immaculate! I unexpectedly was given a huge work opportunity last week that had been very vague for a couple of months so, as to not get my hopes up, I didn't account for it in my September planning. And now since it's suddenly been decided, it's one more thing on my plate and I totally froze for a couple of days, not knowing how to fit it in best
Highly recommend creating and following the weekly template of the 4 elements Cal talks about in the beginning of the video. It's essential for life organisation.
I'm amazed at how these productivity gurus manage to churn out content every week without inventing anything new. And guess what: I am addicted to them:)
What I find amazing is how they don't lose their minds saying the same things over and over, ad infinitum. I can't imagine myself talking about one single topic week after week - the monotony would drive me mad. I'm saying all this despite being a huge Cal fan. Nothing but respect.
You are allowed to smile in your thumbnails, especially, since you bring good news. 😊 No need to look, as though you were about to tell us, we all have a terminal illness.
Ah, that would be Kyle from the Fantasy Footballers Podcast on the call and listening to them, I totally understand the grind they go on during the peak season for fantasy football. It is like two worlds blending into one, wow!
Hey Cal, I appreciate you sharing these great ideas. It would be amazing if you could implement them in Notion to make them more tangible and practical.
Hey Cal , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
How did your friend manage to land a job in Silicon Valley after just one year of studying? That seems like such a unique, persuasive, and rare case in history. It's inspiring, but honestly, it feels a bit unrealistic. For most of us, making real progress takes much more time. I can't help but feel some disbelief about the things you've shared in your book...😢😢😢
Time can not be managed! Time is an independent variable. As David Allen says, people struggle to manage their behavior but do not want to admit it so plainly.
But the point of the things he's saying is that those templates will be personal to you and your life. He's just outlining the core principles for building that weekly template that will be very unique to you even in the way it's structured
Cal said he doesn't form an actual template but a bullet list for how he'll arrange his time in a quarter. For example, mornings set aside for writing, no meetings on Mondays.
Nope, sorry this is good. Cal's crowd isn't the type that requires the sensory overload that your typical UA-cam consumer craves. Ali Abdaal's viewers aren't looking for deep advice, they're looking for shiny animations making up for generic, superficial advice

No.
The fourth is autopilot scheduling, bruhh.
The categories/bullet points thing is not a category in the template … it’s the FORM of the template. ❤

15:25 summary of things that go into the weekly template
The timing of this episode is immaculate! I unexpectedly was given a huge work opportunity last week that had been very vague for a couple of months so, as to not get my hopes up, I didn't account for it in my September planning. And now since it's suddenly been decided, it's one more thing on my plate and I totally froze for a couple of days, not knowing how to fit it in best
I was feeling the exact same way!
Highly recommend creating and following the weekly template of the 4 elements Cal talks about in the beginning of the video. It's essential for life organisation.
This is prefect, just as we start a new month! I’ve been waiting for this, it’s like you read my mind! Thank you!
FINALLY! WE MISSEDYOU😊
i bought the template workbook, this video came at the right time
From where did you purchase it? Is it a Cal Newport product? I'd like to get one myself. Thanks
I'm amazed at how these productivity gurus manage to churn out content every week without inventing anything new. And guess what: I am addicted to them:)
Your comment just screams irony.
Most content is repetitive and forgettable, regardless of subject matter. We like regular messages and reminders.
What I find amazing is how they don't lose their minds saying the same things over and over, ad infinitum. I can't imagine myself talking about one single topic week after week - the monotony would drive me mad. I'm saying all this despite being a huge Cal fan. Nothing but respect.
The hats are definitely a fashion statement.
Just setting up my Multi-Scale plan and looking for ways and advice to do so. Nice Labor Day today!

😂😂😂😂
😁
But if he smiles the students will start goofing around.
Hahah that's what I like about Cal
@@wannabecarguyNeeds to find other ways to keep the discipline then. .😂 If anyone can find them, then my money would be on him.😊
Jessy, if you are reading this. Can you please make separate playlist on Cal's channel where you upload video about Which books Cal' read.
9:58 -10:23: Ad Cal newport
I need to skip as I am watching this on repeat😂
18:54-21:14: Ad
21:14 -21:54 brain health
23:05: end of Ad restart video

Please sell Deep Life tshirts once that book comes out!
Kyle Borgognoni from the Fantasy Footballers Pod!?!? I recognize that voice anywhere!
The VBLCCP hats are awesome! Where can I get one? 😉
I would love to see the bulleted list if possible, mentioned around 18:00, thanks.
Do a Setup Tour
Where can I buy one of the VBLCCP hats? Neiman Marcus maybe?
...copper landing, an excellent nitpick. : )))))

Why can't I make sense of this 😢 is it just me or is this actually complex?
got that jason bateman Ozark energy
Timestamps are not correct. They are off by several seconds
😂 you show this... this might be a confirmation bias...thar is nothing private in my phone...
Sir, i've a question: How we can avoid ,,sweet images'' about our results while this deep work way?
How did your friend manage to land a job in Silicon Valley after just one year of studying? That seems like such a unique, persuasive, and rare case in history. Weekly templates discussed, no templates shown - thumbnail was total clickbait
Get a piece of paper and a pen out, write out the topics and put them in a box, add arrows pointing to details personal to you. Literally all he does.
Lol wtf really? Did you listen?
Yes we need visuals
I went to a place that sells used office furniture and got the biggest dry erase board they had. 4x8 . The metal one so I can use magnetic labels.
But the point of the things he's saying is that those templates will be personal to you and your life. He's just outlining the core principles for building that weekly template that will be very unique to you even in the way it's structured
Mental picture of Joe Biden parachuting out of the helicopter
Even WW3 would be start, this guy stay in his unique room
Are they aware that the video is at 50 fps??
Productivity is a shit way to value your life
OK but where is the TEMPLATE??? What a waste of time to discuss something without precedent being shown. Why is he gatekeeping this?
Cal said he doesn't form an actual template but a bullet list for how he'll arrange his time in a quarter. For example, mornings set aside for writing, no meetings on Mondays.
He's teaching how to make your own based on your needs, goals and others.
The videos are not engaging enough.
Can't you hire a professional video editor and animator to make your content more engaged like Ali Abdaal.
Nope, sorry this is good. Cal's crowd isn't the type that requires the sensory overload that your typical UA-cam consumer craves. Ali Abdaal's viewers aren't looking for deep advice, they're looking for shiny animations making up for generic, superficial advice
