Installing and coding the correct VW/Audi battery

- This is an Audi Q7 which was towed back to the workshop with a flat battery. Not an unusual problem, if it were not for the fact that barely two months prior a brand new battery was installed on this vehicle.
In this video I will explain why not any aftermarket battery will properly work with Audi vehicles and why they run out of power so fast. I will also show you how to recognize which batteries are 100% compatible and how to encode these batteries using the Autoland iScan-II wt.
Symptom:
Car was towed back to the workshop with a flat battery. The problem is that this flat battery, even though it was brand new and installed on the vehicle barely two months prior, is a "standard aftermarket commercial battery" not fully compatible with this Audi.
Fix:
Purchase and install a battery compatible with with this specific vehicle. These batteries will have a BEM tag (a sticker) on them.
Repair procedure:
Install battery and then perform coding by using the information on the BEM tag on the battery.
Tool used:
iScan-II wt

Great informational video, it would've been nice to see the fault code before as well as after changing the battery.
On a pessimistic note: Why can't the system, when disconnected realise 'this could be a new battery' and re calibrate itself?
VW got caught trying to trick emissions testing awhile back; this appears to be another software system to keep service and repairs inhouse.
This is the best description of how the battery system coding works on an Audi on UA-cam I've seen to date, thank you 👍
Wow ! I need to a Space Shuttle License for this ! 🤔🤪😂😂
Excellent explanation and tutorial but how do you know which channel to select? Is it always going to be 04?
Yes
good job!
super video 👍
I have a 2005 Audi s4 , there is no registration for Battery in the system. When did Battery registration start? Years and make?
For cripes sakes... leave it to Audi VW to make battery charging system and replacement so complicated 🙄
Someone installed a non BEM code battery in my Audi Q7 2013. But no code was needed. So what’s the deal ? It’s an Delcor AGM start stop function batt.
Your battery will not last as long as it should.
What do you recommend for a battery that does not have a BEM code such as an AGM battery from Advance Auto Parts that isn’t one of the brands you listed?
The best method in this case is to type the same part number and adjust the serial number last digit by one different. You must install a likewise battery and same amp hour of course. This completes the reset and allows the car to restart its adaptions. Was taught this by an Audi field engineer incase anyone disagrees ;) in open to hear any other suggestions
@@powayimports4175lol thanks that's exactly my plan 😅
Hy , for audi q 7 2006 we have to make , it this procedure just for new models -
I have a Audi A4 2007 could this be my issue as well. New battery and it’s dead.
i believe it is....without the battery management system installed correctly that battery would be good as dead without proper install
meaning even with a memory saver attached to the obd 2 port you're still not doing it right. also for that year of audi all engine types need a scan tool to do the job
My audi a1 start stop only works if i remove neg batt cable then attach it bk after 5 minutes could the fault lie in the neg battery terminal sensor ?
This can be done with a VCDS a lot quicker and easier.
It can be done even quicker using OBDEleven. 👍
@@JohnnyBea I just did this. first time. I got a new battery with no BEM, I went from old Varta H15, to a Delkor LN5 (I think it's an asian brand ?), anyway to reset the car I changed the VARTA serial number by 1 digit to let the car know it's a new battery.. This is what a forum said to do. any advice ? I'm taking it into a mechanic as it needs a service (not audi dealership - they're too expensive!)
@@defaultHandle1110 I've purchased an OBDEleven device and it seemed to work but the fault of battery monitoring has come back, my battery seems fine and the battery is not losing charge also the battery meter reads full, if yet are experiencing anything like this maybe better to have a VAG motor technician check it out, maybe not a none VAG Technician because it's a bit specialist. If you have access to the green menu on your MMI and know what you are doing switch on the battery meter to check your battery, I'm sure there is a video on UA-cam somewhere on how to do this.
Bearing in mind the green menu can not always be turned on as some of the videos say, you may need a OBD2 device or a VAG COM to turn it on from the factory setting depending on your vehicle.
I hope this helps. 😎👍
@@JohnnyBea how do you do it with obd eleven I have that but when I check the app both for battery replacement is on it?
What obd readers can code new battery for audi a1 sportback
Complete bollocks i'm afraid ! The whole BEM scare story is horseshit , when your vehicle is fitted with its replacement AGM or EFB battery it may require a code to be entered to reset the alternator voltage back to standard. I always use my home telephone number for this and guess what ? Yes , it works perfectly and the redness of the local Audi specialists face still amuses me to this day. Its basically a huge lie to drag most unsuspecting idiots back to the dealer ! Reset tools are £300 ish and you could try your phone number .....Trust me , you won't need mine ! lol
i used the date the battery was changed, it works!
It's all bullshit, I put a used AGM battery in my Audi when the original died with no coding and it lasted almost 6 years. It was still starting the car but was a bit weak and I store tee car and drive it no more than once a week so I replaced it cuz I didn't want to worry about starting when it gets 20 below zero or worse. A buddy who is a mechanic at an Audi dealer told me that the used battery I put in wouldn't last a year cuz I didn't program it into the car. Well it lasted 6 years. I just bought a brand new one and tomorrow I'll just drop it in. I called him and asked him if he wanted to bet me how long would this one last without coding but he didn't want to bet me. All bullshit to have you come into the dealership and spend more $.
after putting new battery, did you turn the car key to contact and then going into vcds, or just enter in vcds then start the car?
Whit tjis scanner can be coded new radio on Audi q7
you should try vcds lot easier and faster
Please tell me Security Access Code for Battery Coding
You got part number and serial number mixed up.... part number is at top and not bottom
True
Can I do this with my LapTop with a App
When did BEM batteries Code start on VW ( year) ?
Filarako Dose a 08 Jetta 2.5 need the battery to be coded because I'm having some electrical problems like not changing at idle and when I drive the voltage goes up the alternator was replaced 2 years ago and battery tests good
I have a new FIAMM BATTERY forse My golf 7 But I haven't bem code. What Can I do?
motorenico did you figure it out
Scrap the car and buy a Toyota
Me too.... now the car doesn’t work anymore....
German engineering 😂 they can’t make anything that just works lol
