  • In this video design of shaft is explained with solving the problem.
In Design of Machine elements Subject (ME8593), Design of shaft is very important topic and also for final year design project. Concept of design is explained very simple manner in Tamil.
Problem solved for shaft subjected to bending moment and twisting moment with two pulley.
Shaft is consider as a simply supported beam and analysis by apply the strength of materials concept. and find the diameter of shaft by applying the maximum shear stress theory.

A transmission shaft supporting a helical gear B and an overhang bevel gear D is shown in fig 8B. The shaft is mounted on two bearings A and C. The pitch circle diameter of the helical gear is 450 mm and the diameter of the bevel gear at the force is 450mm. Power is transmitted from the helical gear to the bevel gear. The gears are keyed to the shaft. The material of the shaft is steel 45C8 (Sut -600 and Syt-380 N/mm³). The factors Kb and Kt of ASME code are 2.0 and 1.5 respectively. Determine the shaft diameter using the ASME code. Sir intha eppidi podanum
