My family went on that a few years ago and let me tell you, it's kinda scary. I wouldn't ever do it again. It's a long ride down and a long ride up and I could tell if anything went wrong, it'd be bad.

We were on this tour the day before. We felt totally safe but we can understand how terrifying it must have been for all involved. The elevator shaft goes down 1000 ft.

I hope they don't shut the tour down it would be a shame if one accident of an employee would cause that. I hope to tour the mine next summer.

Why is the owner not part of this? The owner should be making statements....

I don't think the owner would know anything more than the officials

I've been on that mine tour at least 12 times, if not more. I would still go again. It is a great tour. I am also an NDT Tech Inspector and could be wire rope. It could be the Inspector. Could be a few other things. That will all come out in time. I will say this, me working in Safety and Quality it makes you very observant. The owners and employees are awesome!
I would definitely go down there again, no problem.
I will keep all this in my prayer's. RIP, he was a great guy!!! He loved his job! He wouldn't love it if the owners weren't taking care of him. 😉

I've been several times myself, and while I don't know if I would go again, I'm sure this is the absolute last thing they would ever want to happen.

I do recall taking this very impressive goldmine trip in 1998 with my Mom (from Germany, 67yr back then). There aren't many places on Earth where you can experience the challenges of oldfashioned goldmining, much more heroic than Parker Schnabel's TV cheesy soap opera. Yes, it is a little scary to enter the crammed elevator cabin (does it hold more than 4 passengers?). All was quite old/outdated technology even back then, probably didnot change much in the last 25 years. Mining is always a VERY dangerous business, and every tourist should be aware of the risks when entering these machines, the mine stairs, tunnels etc. I hope that this accident will not enforce a complete shutdown of MollIe Kathleen's enterprise,. Few dare to run such a highly regulated business these days for the public.
So far I could not find much info on the real root cause (a door malfunction at 500ft depth?) or how the brave mine worker (the tour guide himself?) was killed when trying to get all under control again. An earlier report mentioned a dead female passenger, but that was apparently not true. For all stuck in the elevator and at the mine bottom for hours it was probably the adventure of their lifetime. All could have ended far worse in a 1000ft elevator shaft; active mine related accidents are usually VERY deadly and dramatic. I would take Mollie's ride again if I ever had a chance. Let them recover and rebuild, please!

Mining is hard, expensive and apparently tourism is dangerous.

Lord, comfort those left behind and graciously welcome your own into your glorious presence, faultless, with exceeding great joy!
    What a heavy earthly loss.
💔😢🙏🏻😪 Holy Father, may the Peace of God, the Presence of God and the Love of God surround Patrick’s family and the mining ⛏️ communities of Victor and Cripple Creek, during this most difficult time.
    LORD have mercy,
    CHRIST have mercy

🤥 ~ I don’t want to make this political, but I am pleasantly surprised that a certain politician didn’t start creating lies and claiming that the White House was not trying to help, that the immigrants did this, etc. There’s a certain politician who is basically claiming that the White House is black, the sky is purple, etc. Claiming that the White House is not calling governors regarding FEMA natural disaster issues that need to be handled, anything to cause confusion and fear and hate for his own political benefit.
I constantly criticize people on the left wing and on the right wing that deserve it. This country is tearing itself apart and is determined to live in their own bubble, not even just a regular bubble but a titanium bubble.b
