+Uberlicious Can anyone explain to me what this song is about, please? I understand the lyrics but I can't figure out the meaning. I'm not a native speaker. And I really like Bastille, because Dan's voice is so beautiful, so I really want to understand what he means in the song.
+Hoang Ho + It's my belief that this song doesn't have a very specific meaning. The general theme is that a girl rebelled against the traditions and ways of her own town/background and those people therefore were ashamed of her. But in doing these things, the girl found a new kind of freedom that she hadn't felt before. By leaving home and going out on an adventure, she felt a lot of fear but also a lot of excitement. The line "this is your heart, can you feel it?" refers to reminding the girl that this is worth it for her. It's saying to her, this is wonderful, what you can feel this way. The part about the gun is referring to how far she will go. Will she keep on seeking more adventure, or will she slow down and go back where she came from? The basic theme of the song is taking joy in someone with a brave spirit. The important thing to remember is that a meaning isn't really supposed to be evident in this song. It is left up to each listener's ideas.

To those who complained how this song and title has absolutely nothing to twin peaks. From the lyrics and the video, it seems like its called laura palmer because its describing how laura palmers last moments of living were...afraid yet brave...if you listen to the lyrics then you'll know what i mean.

I've been a fan of Bastille since my college years but I didn't know who Laura Palmer was. Now it's 2019 and I'm watching Twin Peaks. It all makes sense now.
Dan smith is absolutely gorgeous, his voice makes my stomach feel things it never has before. Bastille is an absolutely stunning band.

When this song came out I was 18 and left my country (Italy) to live in Manchester (uk) . I was working in this very famous and big club/restaurant in the centre which used to play always very loud music and this one together with foals-my number were the most played in the radio.

As a huge David Lynch fan I'm glad this generation can discover this guy's body of work simply from the song's title. This video has touches of Inland Empire and Lost Highway (both David Lynch movies) in it as well as the obvious Twin Peaks. To anyone that hasn't seen a David Lynch film I strongly suggest you look him up and give one of his movies a try. You won't be disappointed.

It is on Netflix, which is why it has enjoyed a new wave of popularity for this generation (my parents watched it all the time back in '90, it was like what The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad are for us, just immensely popular). But just a warning, the story sort of falls apart in the middle of the 2nd season but it's still worth watching because the characters are still there. And the final episode...well, I'm not going to say anything. Just enjoy the ride!
