We’re EXPECTING Sooo Many Baby Goats! Baby Watch 2024 | Going On for 2 Weeks Now | Early Labor Signs

We think we have at least four of our dairy goats that are pregnant. During this time of the year; it is hard not to get excited over every single early labor sign. These goats are just a couple days from their calculated due date and we wake up every morning super excited to check on our pregnant goats
In this video our large homesteading family explains early labor signs at what to look for with a goat birth. Some early labor signs include pulling at the ground, backing up into a corner, having the udders round off and bag up, and having the goat ligaments disappear. We feel like our goats have been doing this the whole week and we are anxiously waiting on these baby goats to be born.
We have Nigerian Dwarf goats, lamncha goats and mini mancha goats. There are several difference between our smallest dairy goat, Nigerian Dwarf and our largest dairy goat breed, Lamancha. Nigerian Dwarf breeds are small and typically weigh 80 lbs and the Lamancha dairy goat is much larger and can weigh 120-130 lbs. Lamanchas also give us almost double to triple the amount of milk. Lamancha ears also are so small they look like they have been cut off.
We explain in this video how to check on a goat who is about to give birth. We show you how to check the ligaments of the dairy goat. Ligaments are found in a V shape on either side of the tail and feel like 2 pencils. The thickness of the ligaments slowly get thinner as kidding day approaches. When the dairy goats ligaments are completely gone then she should give birth to goat babies in 12-24 hours.
This is our third goat birthing season for our dairy goats on our homestead. Kidding season is such an exciting time for our large homesteading family. This year our mama goats were bred with a polled Nigerian Dwarf buck that was light tan/ red color. These babies will have a 50% chance of being polled. These babies will give us some full blooded Nigerian Dwarf babies and some mini Lamancha babies.
