Love it. Pick Me Pete!
Excellent! You, Ivan Weiss and Peter Hurley are some of my favorite photographers! Wonderful work
Thank you! That's quite a compliment.
I prefer cooler tones but clients always enjoy warmer 😂 Pick Me Pete 📸
Absolutely love this video. You hit the nail on the head as you mentioned several times. Get the light right first. You can enhance and color later, but your lighting is 🔥 to begin with.
Thanks dude! No substitute for getting it right!

This was really insightful and practical. Along with the explanations you gave for each portrait and decision in the editing process, I also could somehow feel that you already saw the edit in your mind as you took the raw shot.
Your style makes digital photos look a bit like oil paintings. It’s awesome!
Thank you! Yes, I do have a very good idea of what the final product is going to look like before I shoot in most cases. Sometimes it's a wild card which is fun too, because the image can go places I didn't expect.
I am starting too learn portrait photography, and I really appreciated your emphasis on getting the lighting right.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Pet I recently acquired some portrait equipment - Im dabbling - so thanks for the video. It seems like most photography - you cant fix bad photos only enhance a good one. Icing o the cake.

Thanks!
Hi Pete, cheers for the great content - I'm learning a lot from your videos. I was wondering if, in the 3 light Hurley style lighting for headshots, there is any difference or benefit in using 3x1 strip boxes for the key and high fill over 2x1 boxes? Or are the larger boxes really only needed or useful for wider portraits and other applications. Many thanks and best regards from New Zealand :)
You can use either 3x1 or 2x1 strip boxes and get the same effect. I use 2 3x1 panels and 1 2x1 but the newer Westcott flex kit has all 2x1 panels. Glad you are enjoying the vids! If you want to improve your headshot/portrait skills, you should join my FB group! facebook.com/groups/301951812504125/
Very helpful. Many thanks Pete. Will check out the group :)

Watched and enjoyed. The video for me emphasises a dilemma within style capture and lighting. Certainly an awful lot to take on board and consider for this highly subjective approach to final image. Food for thought, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Can you explain your dilemma? I didn't quite understand.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Hi, yes, my dilemma when editing.........? How far and where to go if the lighting is not how I like it. Often I don't get the chance to re-shoot. An edit with a preset or RAW adjustments can make all the difference. Subjectiveness for me is a fluid thing depending on the on screen image.
@@alanplatt888 Well the key is to get the lighting how you like it before going to post. This is easier in the studio but more difficult on location, but the more you understand how light works and are able to shape it to the specific subject and situation, the more fun it will be to do post production. As I mentioned there's not a lot you can do with a badly lit photo to fix it.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Thank you
