John once said that he would rather kill himself than have a conventional job. He even once said if the Beatles never became successful, he would’ve killed himself 😢

Ringo has said that he once wanted to be a hairdresser, and eventually own a chain of women's hairdressing salons. Glad he abandoned that goal, and became one of the world's best rock and roll drummers!! ❤❤❤❤

John did have a job, digging holes for the gas board. One story says he was sacked for burning out a kettle, the other says he lasted only days and was sacked for bad attitude.

Wouldn’t that still fall under him not having a full time job if he was fired a few days later?

Prior to going to Hamburg, The Silver Beatles were the worst band in Liverpool and on the verge of disbandment. George said he was planning on following in his father's footsteps as a bus driver, Paul said he fancied being a window dresser at a department store, and John said he was ready to stow away on the next ship to New York City. But then Pete Best joined the band as their drummer, which allowed them to go to Germany, and that's when all the magic began.
When The Beatles returned from that first trip to Hamburg 4 months later, the band had been transformed, on the strength of Pete Best's drumming (btw, every drummer, including Ringo, tried to copy Pete's revolutionary Atom Beat). The Beatles came home for Christmas in '60 and played at Litherland Town Hall, but nobody knew who they were. That's how obscure they had been before they left. The kids at the dance hall that night thought The Beatles were German, because the posters said, "Direct from Hamburg, The Beatles!". It was only later in the show when the kids heard them talking onstage that they realized they were fellow scousers. lol But back to the beginning of the evening. As the lads were setting up their instruments, the kids in the hall were away from the stage, milling around, waiting for the band to begin so they could start dancing. There were over a thousand kids in the dance hall that night, and they were there just to dance, but also curious what this "German" band sounded like.
Well, when The Beatles suddenly began playing, it was the rockin' Little Richard song, "Long Tall Sally", and every kids' head snapped around, and they all rushed the stage. Everyone knew the famous song, but none of the kids in attendance had ever heard anything like The Beatles before, and were screaming their heads off, and singing along -- no one was dancing, this had never happened before in Liverpool. The Beatles' hard rocking, hard-hitting, boot-stomping sound, forged in the savage Hamburg clubs, was so new, so raw, so loud, and so very, very different; it blew everyone and everything else the kids were used to hearing away. Beatles historians agree, this night was the birth of *Beatlemania.*
(Ringo Starr would not join the band until 2 years later.)

They did do other jobs outside of the music industry: George Harrison financed movies; John Lennon got into some acting (and wrote a book, did art, etc.).
