She remains our Mama Africa; and for me she is more than that. In 1997 in my year of exile in Portland,OR I had the honor of attending her concert and she signed a little book that I cherish to this day. And my life changed 200% and plus. The most handsome guy oh Mazi's band who is also the one accompanying her on piano in this video; in Portland he saw me dancing in the audience and he knew he had found "his dancing queen". Today, three handsome sons later, we are still dancing as we always celebrate our mama Africa. We send our love and blessings of Christmas and New Year to Miss Nzenzi and all the wonderful band that accompanied this extraordinary lady until her time on earth was up. Keep up her legacy.
Indeed a beautiful story - may you keep on dancing! When I saw Ms Makeba perform this song live in 1967 or 8 (accompanied by Sivuca on accordion), the experience was absolutely electrifying. She was a magnificent personage, and a gifted performer.
Lyrics: Wretched is a man who is born, poor in every way He will live on promises 'til his dying day Freedom from life is the only reward for me That's why I say High on the mountain side That's where my soul shall bide No markings for my grave When I've passed on Deep in my slumber-land far from the sins of man No heartache will I know When I've passed on When my trials are over And I'm stripped of all my wares I'll be free from my mortal and worldly care When all is said and done Who'll share the prize I've won Whose heart will weep and mourn When I've passed on When I've passed on
@@fishelbresler9418 Thanks a million for the correction! I had posted this from my cell and the auto-correct changed it and I failed to check again before posting. Such beautiful lyrics right? I wouldn't want them to be mis-represented. :)
I absolutely ADORED (and STILL do...) MAMMA AFRIKA... from the very first time I heard her on the radio (I was ~ 3 years old at the time...), performing Pata Pata, I was HOOKED... I just got lost in the rhythm, the drums (and other instruments...), the words, AND the sound she was SO RECOGNIZED for (made with the throat - tongue...). She was AMAZING, and gone too soon. THANK YOU, DAME MIRIAM MAKEBA, for SHARING Your INCREDIBLE TALENT with the WORLD.....💜
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness. It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thus gutted me. she lived the heartache - the emotion in this, profound. Thank you, Mama Africa - your work is immortal - you are remembered and loved for your gifts of song and music that brought people together, even while you were denied your beloved homeland for so many years.
The valtican as the church was is not to have brought in weird individuals not their musics pf any kind .. For that will be vanish by a huge earthquake so when if ever rebuild will know what to not ever do

Lyrics:
Wretched is a man who is born, poor in every way
He will live on promises 'til his dying day
Freedom from life is the only reward for me
That's why I say
High on the mountain side
That's where my soul shall bide
No markings for my grave
When I've passed on
Deep in my slumber-land far from the sins of man
No heartache will I know
When I've passed on
When my trials are over
And I'm stripped of all my wares
I'll be free from my mortal and worldly care
When all is said and done
Who'll share the prize I've won
Whose heart will weep and mourn
When I've passed on
When I've passed on
Thank you, Ms McKinzy, for the lyrics, but please note: "WRETCHED is the man..." and "When I'm stripped of all my WARES."
