In 1974 a friend of mine. Paul took a 1972 pinto runabout 2.3L cammed it,header exhaust and edelbrock intake manifold. With Holly 4v 650cfm carburetor. We called it the Fast Four. It ran great till he exploded it😮! He didn't miss a beat pulled the 4 popper out and set about having a 351cu.in. V8 installed. But that's another story. It's about Evil,Mean,Hot&Nasty!❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I worked on them for 20 Years 1.6 are good 1.8 die 2.0 very good pulls like a train 2.2 pile of shit. Simple to work on and tune i could strip one down and rebuild in 4 hours with a sit down and coffee or two. These engines are not rare lol.
I have a Morgan Kit Car with a 1600cc pinto in it Bored out to a 1760cc Hepolite pistons and loads of wee go faster bits in but nowadays a 1ltr turbo Skoda Octavia has more power, Still cool as though 😊
I had this car/engine combo. The EPA required that this engine be detuned for their spec.s . I would shift it when it wouldn't go any faster in that gear. They also had a 1.5 cc engine made by Lister. A way under powered engine even for this size car. Got about 19~ 21 MPG.
Since about 10 years ago. And they are getting rarer by the day. I'm currently rebuilding a 2lt that came out of a mk 3 Transit minibus. Not an ideal lump of iron but it's a start.
i paid $3,550 australian dollars - subaru EJ207 - RA STI Spec C - short block from subaru brand new in a cardboard box from japan ! - forged crank and rods nitrited crank x drilled and all balance to 1 gram !
maybe a compression test at least, Im sure they did one but not filmed it... Im sure, Oh I am in Australia, I just painted my pinto, with Ford Blue... from a spray can, I cant believe the price, bought and sold.. in UK terms I paid 1200 Quid and it came with the rest of the escort van, complete. Oh, I did a compression test too.. all good there I just have to question the title " ELVIS HAS TO REBUILD"
This show is such Bullshit. Thats not a rebuild, its a bit of paint and a new gasket. If the Man was genuinely selling it, then obviously being a Ford Man himself he would have known the value of it. I suspect ge was just an actor, just like the rest of them, or he would have painted it himself and got a 1000 more for it. The whole thing is just acting and Brewer is an absolute Bellend.
Ported and polished? Mmm ok then. Well i guess it’s an old school engine. Motorsport don’t think so. Maybe a road car with a bit more sporty performance. Not sure about that clang when it shut down but fine I guess
A 'rare' engine. Yeah, give it a rest - outside of the crossflow and deriviatives like the valencia, it's probably Fords' most numerous engine - Escort, Cortina, Granada, Sierra, Transit, Capri... and probably more that I haven't listed. Probably had some slight oversize pistons fitted at some point in the past, and has some ancient tired sidedraughts. In no way does that make a motorsport engine. £1700 quid? No chance. WD is absolutely full of it these days.
Get an American 2.3 Lima from a turbo coupe. That’ll make your weird little British car fast. Without having to touch it a turbo coupe motor will make 300 hp. Just add a little extra boost. The whole rest of the world calls them Lima engines. Just because they put them in a pinto doesn’t mean they’re pinto engines.
RARE? a pinto isnt rare. theyre 10 a penny. they were fitted to mk1/2 Escorts, mk3,4,5 Cortinas, 4 cylinder Granadas (at least in the mk2 and 3), most 4 cylinder Capris, most Sierras (up to around 1988ish) most Petrol Transit Vans.......
So a rebuild is some high temp paint painted over the existing and a new gasket installed?

I think every car guy gets that excited when an engine fires up for the first time. Nice job lads.
in this case fake scripted drama for TV ....
That's not a rebuild, that's just a tart up 😮
Not even a really good tart up :D
The producer’s idea of a rebuild and my idea of a rebuild, are two different things
Not sure how a few gaskets and a paint job is a full rebuild from scratch
almost as silly as the fake scripted "omg it won't start" realityshow drama
Such a fantastic 'rebuild', It's amazing what a bit of paint does
Known as a 2 gallon tune up. (2gallons of paint)
So Elvis gave it a really good look over with his expert eye, and it turned out to be Mint. Cracking find, I love these engines.
🤣

Takes me back worked on many of these engines back in the day..
Great work Elvis 👍👍👍
Do you know how I can get the full episodes in the states?
@@thealgonquin5822 Think it’s available through Discovery+ , but like the UK, it’s probably subscription only. Hope that’s of help
😯 Wish I pulled mine out when I scrapped cortina for £50 and just put in shed till now
A coat of paint is a rebuild.......

Are you sure it's not a cross flow engine?

Jesus, you couldn't walk through a scrapyard without tripping over stripped bits of Pinto at one time.
In dirt track speedway they use a full race spec 4cyl motor thats based off the pinto. Its called a esslinger. Around 340-360hp
🤣
@@guyflaskett1926 Google esslinger engineering
Since when were Pintos rare?
They are now !

I've just given £750 for one that won't even turn. And I can remember giving £25 for them back in the day.
In England it might be
Elvis is in the House!

A xflow is rarer
Easy rebuild, I rebuilt an RS2.1 pinto completely when I was 17

It's not been the same since the tall man left.
Nothing rare about a pinto , millions made and still around
😂 Elvis you can tell you worked for Ron Denis he like everything painted too

2.1 pinto.quaff box, LSD in a mk1 escort. We are going racing. Or more to the point rallying
I got three of them in Australia 🇦🇺

I love the way he just buys it without even checking if the crankshaft turns or checking the state of the oil 😂
The Pinto, probably the most idiot proof and bomb proof engine ever. Great engines.
Is painting an engine something to be proud of Elvis, your a lot better that.
I’m have a TVR Tuscan, I would love Elvis to breathe on that engine

Solid engine but replaced lots of camshafts and oil feed pipe.
I have an engine like that in my transit mk2😂 its fast as f
had a 2 litre pinto in mk1 cortina in oz-was tough as nails. Thrashed it. No worries
‘Old art yer ‘aaaandd
' boat anchor ' engine !
Not it. Basic raw power with no computers or ecus in sight
Not even got the oval inlet ports 🤦

Wrong. Were ten a penny. No longer any of those vehicles you mention in the scrap yards, in fact there haven't been for ten years
Hope that paint is blooming high heat resistant. Otherwise, time & $$ are wasted.
Hardly a Rebuild video, just doing a deal and a repaint ....
Even a kid can rebuild a pinto they so simple done many ffs and with twin 45s shud be running electric fuel pump
Sounded Lush mate.
Pinto engine is hardly rare ….
They were such a good engine, there are plenty around
Not any longer
@@richardjackson5380 I can always find one when doing my next project if required. Mainly from other guys into escorts.
I know 1 guy who has 11
This show is a joke....
What a joke for start pintos weren’t around in the sixties
Pinto rare? they are still common as dirt.
Rare for who??????? Ford sells them every day 😂😂😂
