The FE is the camera I owned upon graduating high school back in ‘81. Still have it, and you’re right the ability to do double exposure on it was amazing.
@@doublenegative4real you are correct, it is a tank, and with the motor drive hanging on it, it was an awesome tank. I would much liken it to the Sherman tank of World War II capable of a great many things. Question, how do you do double exposure on a digital camera nowadays?
@@UncommonSense1776 Double exposures are only possible on a few digital camera models, Sonys can't do them in-camera for instance. Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm does them however. Basically, you select the double exposure setting, shoot the first image, then shoot the second, and it will combine them in-camera. Works pretty much the same way as film as long as the camera offers that function
I just picked one up today! I shoot with a Sony A7sii but I always wanted to shoot film. Just didn’t know how to shoot. Now that I have a better understanding I’m getting into it. So today I’m here!
as far as making videos is concerned you have a great editing style so keep at it. The FE is my favorite Nikon, unbelievably easy to use -- almost intuitive. I have two. I also have an FM3a an F4. I still use them all.
I own an FE and absolutely love it. I will never sell it or get rid of it. If I could own only 2 cameras, one film and one digital, it would be the FE and the Fuji XT-2. For the most part, I feel that the images from modern digital are too lifeless and clinical, and that why I love my FE and the Fuji XTrans sensor. These two cameras help me capture life as I see it.
I'm in a similar boat. Often when I shoot digital for my own work I'm using a Fuji X-E4 because it can be decently close to film. But if I have the choice, film all day
I have an FE from 1978 and an FE2 from 1982. Basically identical. Neither ever serviced. They are slightly aged on the outside, the brass shows through the black paint on the older camera, some very small dents. Both work perfectly and are a joy to use. I will pass them to my daughter as heirlooms.
These shots are great! I have a Nikon FE and love it. Also love the Olympus OM-2 and the Canon A-1, both of which make it easy to shoot multiple exposures.
I'm really glad to see good reviews of this - I just got one with a good lens in an antique store for ~$15! For the double exposure, do you need to close the aperture a bit more than usual or do any exposure compensation changes so as not to over-expose the shots?
@@Jimbilbelle not necessarily. Only if your images are super highlight heavy. That said the sky is the limit for double exposures so both images could be completely different settings-wise depending on the creative goal of the final product.
Hey I saw a bunch of GVL SC shots here! I'm trying to decide on my first film camera - I'm leaning toward this or the Canon AE-1 or Pentax k-1000. This is a long shot, but if you're in GVL do you know anyone who has one of these for sale?
I don’t, however there’s a small group of film photographers in Greenville. Message the Upstate Filmwalk account on insta, he may have some info for you

The thing is also built like a tank. I’d bet yours still works fine!

right? The FE is just so smooth to use. I feel like I don't even think about it. And thanks! I appreciate the kind words!

Thanks so much! and yes, the camera really gets out of the way which is probably why I like it. Effortless to use.
I've just got a nikon fe and I was wondering how can I export the pictures I take...
@@salahmabrouk1941 When you have taken your photos, take the film in (or mail it in) and ask for scans along with the negatives you get back.
The OM-2n and the FE2 are the two best manual film SLR cameras ever.
Nice job on the video. Cool photos! I’ll check out the IG page and the podcast. Subscribed!
awesome thank you!!
Great video, I used to use a FE2 years ago. I am now searching for a FE2 again
Thanks! I almost got an FE2 but they are double the price of the FE. FE is definitely a great option even though it’s older
@@doublenegative4real I like the FE better because of how it handles on/off.
dont forget on AUTO pressing self timer lever toward lens locks meter ready to shoot
I have FE2 camera too, film camera just like LP to me.
(I'm still LP collecting over 40 years)
Life is analog, not a digital .

"more bad photos shot on auto..." Love it!
I will be happy to show you sharp photos taken with a film camera. even digital camera is not that sharp yet. 180 lines per mm
You pronounce Greenville wrong….
???? I’m not going to say GreenVUL
Great video. I have a Nikon FE and because of the cost of film, I don’t get to shoot it as much as I would like.
