Chayote is a vegetable belonging to the fruit category. It can be grown in a home garden and is considered as a fruit as well as tomatoes, for having its seeds involved in the edible part.
It is originally from Central America. According to some historians, chayote was already cultivated in the Caribbean at the time of the discovery of America.
Due to its characteristic and very mild flavor it can be consumed all year round, the chayote was very prominent in Antiquity among other vegetables grown. It is easy to digest, rich in fiber, potassium, vitamins A and C and low in calories, it is 31 calories in one hundred grams.
There is a wide variety of chayote, in terms of shape, size and color. It can be rounded or pear-shaped, most commonly found at fairs. The color varies from white to very dark green. Depending on the species, the bark can be smooth or with thorns.
Sustainable Life
Germination occurs 10 to 20 days, and the roots also begin to grow,
The time has come to plant in a Pot, place the Chayote at 45 degrees, use a Substrate with Organic Nutrients.
O the leaves up and the roots on the substrate,
It will facilitate the development of the roots,
Watering should be daily
Chayote should be in a place with good light to start germination.
Now 2 months old and ready to transplant to Soil
I am planting the new Chayote in a permanent location.

I have the most beautiful Chayote plants growing and it is covering half of my house, growing up the roof, attaching to fences and there are hundreds of Chayote hanging. It is the most beautiful decoration I have ever seen, a spectacular thing to see. I don't know how, who or where the plant came from, all I know is it started growing and I kept caring for it. Some of these Chayotes have thorns and others are smooth. This is all new to me so I'll have to learn what the difference is. The skinny vines are like little lady fingers, holding on and attaching itself to almost anything. It is hugging my lemon tree. I know this is a long post, but I am just learning about Chayotes and am a bit excited. I wish they grew all year long. Today I finally picked ONE and will try to cook it.

@@WorldClik welcome.. Keep planting keep safe
These things taste good are hardy and also painful if they grow up trees and fall on your head. So easy to grow they practically sustain themselves in a place that gets enough water and sun so it's not one you have to go out of your way to keep alive. Toss them in your back yard and they grow themselves.
Thanks for visiting and comment! Yes it is an easy plant to grow, however many people do not know, have no experience in farming, so that was the idea! Sharing and showing that farming can be easy and pleasurable! God bless you Friend.
@@WorldClik you're welcome. Yeah not everyone is as knowledgeable so it's good to show them. I have these growing in my backyard so that's how I know how they are. and there are so many I can't eat them all so I give them away to people to grow and eat. They are very good in chicken soups and stews or an egg fried rice dish. Or just fried in butter and seasoned for a snack, I even eat them raw sometimes. God bless you as well.
