    I'm 70 now. About 35 years ago, I bought a Savage "package gun" in 30-06 for about $269. Been using that rifle since and can't recall ever missing a deer with it. I've gone through a few scopes, but it drives tacks.

    • @johnwray393
      @johnwray393 11 місяців тому +2

      What's wild is you can still get a savage bolt action in several different calibers for around the same price. All those years later.

    • @azzir325
      @azzir325 11 місяців тому +1

      They cost more now, but they are still value priced and shoot just fine!

      @azzir325 Oh, I believe it. And for deer hunting there's no real reason for some $1500 dollar rifle anyways. I'll save that for a good AR.

    • @thedarkwolf9423

      Adjusting for Canadian dollars, I'm pretty sure I got the same combo as you about the same time period, and still hunting with it, and the same scope... wood stock Savage 110 with no magazine in 30-06?

    • @azzir325

      Sound right assuming when you say "no magazine" you mean no removeable magazine? Mine holds 4 plus 1 in the chamber.

      what's the difference where you buy your hunting items. Unless you need to use Swarovski optics or other high end optics and custom built rifles. I don't know, I have been using my same rifle and equipment for years and I do well.

    • @hawks2252

      I imagine walmart sells different brands. A ten point brand or center point brand from walmart is the same as a high end shop. High end shop will and has more knowledable workers and will set you up properly. If you know already what you want then who cares where you buy it. I guess what I'm saying is you want Flair to do a brand challenge.

    As a gunsmith i find it hilarious when y’all “trash talk” a pew from walmart like the manufacturers make certain pew just for walmart 😂😂. The trigger guard 100% on you. However if you contact the manufacturer they’ll send you another. Honestly hard to find a manufacturer that won’t send simple stuff like that, especially with a new pew

    • @brianatkinson8164
      @brianatkinson8164 11 місяців тому +1

      You call a gun a pew? I would never take a gun to a gunsmith who calls a gun a pew. You aren't 5 and you are a "professional". I am not kidding either, if I came into your shop and was talking about gunsmithing with you and you said "let me take a look at your pew", I would re-case it and walk out as I would have zero confidence in your abilities.
      I wouldn't trash talk a gun just from Walmart but I would trash their usual ammo selection and gun selection. Mossberg is far from a quality rifle, sure it works, but is far from quality. I have never and will never understand why people buy 20 cheap guns just to say they have them. Go buy a couple quality ones instead so you actually have something.

    Flair we made some of the best jalapeño deer sausage one year during late season deer hunting in Iowa and we had a bunch of snow during the time we made it!!! After we smoked it we was able to bury it in the snow to stop it from cooking further!!! We made a bunch and it was the best ever that we made for sure!!! We mixed the deer with a little bit of pig fat/ meat and some with jalapeños cheese and some with a cheder cheese!!! Both were amazing for sure and with all the snow that we had that definitely helped also!!!

    Cube your meat and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes with the grinder parts to get the best result and also if you are having trouble getting the last bit of meat out throw some bread in to push it out. If you want to make a fine grind and emulsify the sausage like bologna you can add a few ice cubes to the meat and fat to get some good lunch meat.

    The Mossberg Patriot is a good rifle and scope combo for the money. The Thompson Center Compass is a better choice for around the same money. Both use polymer stocks and have polymer integrated trigger guards. Bad news is the stocks are cheap quality but the good news is a replacement stocks are cheap because people scrap them for an aftermarket wood stock. The aftermarket wood stocks are ok, but you have to have a bolt on trigger guard which are usually steel. But the down side is the detachable magazines use the molded stock for a snap in fit, so the tolerances are very tight. The replacement wood stocks need to have good solid plastic inserts so the magazine fits and functions properly, it can be tricky to get them fitted correctly, but it can be done with shims and epoxy bedding. This is where models like the Remington 700s ADL and BDLs and detach mags are worth the extra money. Most all triggers are made for liability reasons and not hunting reasons, so most all suck so at least get one where the pull weight is adjustable. With the TC Compass, the pull weight trigger spring can be replaced with a light spring very easily.

    Hell yeah Walmart had the juice, I should check my local walmart out to see if they have a 223 bolt.
    I also let my sausage hang in the garage for 3 days after cooking to let it age a little, it comes out amazing.

    Did you call the manufacturer of the rifle to see if they will replace or send you a new trigger guard? I am curious if they stand behind thier Walmart rifle or if they to bad so sad.

    Mr Flair. Please, please, please keep Jake as your cameraman. He's the best you've had.
    Two, please keep doing the bubble head, high pitched voice thing when everyone says you're doing something wrong. Highlight of my day. Greetings from New Zealand.

    Hunting from scratch Walmart challenger sounds cool as hell. I got a Walmart 6.5,Savage arms . Bought it as soon as I was legal to and great rifle for the price. I still like my .257 weatherby though
