I'm 70 now. About 35 years ago, I bought a Savage "package gun" in 30-06 for about $269. Been using that rifle since and can't recall ever missing a deer with it. I've gone through a few scopes, but it drives tacks.
Adjusting for Canadian dollars, I'm pretty sure I got the same combo as you about the same time period, and still hunting with it, and the same scope... wood stock Savage 110 with no magazine in 30-06?
what's the difference where you buy your hunting items. Unless you need to use Swarovski optics or other high end optics and custom built rifles. I don't know, I have been using my same rifle and equipment for years and I do well.
@@hawks2252 I understand that but this is what flair does to make money and people are gonna find it interesting if he’s putting out the same thing every time so he tries to come up with new ideas and there is better places with better quality things than Walmart
fair enough. have a great fall and hunting season. Mine starts in 2 weeks, ( as far as deer, I did well on upland birds) I have a big buck patterned but that changes in a hurry when the shooting starts. @@clayton2672
I want to see a Walmart crossbow challenge Andrew!!! I’ve been wondering if they were worth buying or not and you’ve made some decisions for me in the past based on your experience with some pews.
I imagine walmart sells different brands. A ten point brand or center point brand from walmart is the same as a high end shop. High end shop will and has more knowledable workers and will set you up properly. If you know already what you want then who cares where you buy it. I guess what I'm saying is you want Flair to do a brand challenge.
Keep up the great work and the great content I love the hunting I love the adventure of watching your videos it's always something new always a great vibe I've told all my family and friends about you you are inspirational to us all! Great video
As a gunsmith i find it hilarious when y’all “trash talk” a pew from walmart like the manufacturers make certain pew just for walmart 😂😂. The trigger guard 100% on you. However if you contact the manufacturer they’ll send you another. Honestly hard to find a manufacturer that won’t send simple stuff like that, especially with a new pew
You call a gun a pew? I would never take a gun to a gunsmith who calls a gun a pew. You aren't 5 and you are a "professional". I am not kidding either, if I came into your shop and was talking about gunsmithing with you and you said "let me take a look at your pew", I would re-case it and walk out as I would have zero confidence in your abilities. I wouldn't trash talk a gun just from Walmart but I would trash their usual ammo selection and gun selection. Mossberg is far from a quality rifle, sure it works, but is far from quality. I have never and will never understand why people buy 20 cheap guns just to say they have them. Go buy a couple quality ones instead so you actually have something.
Next iteration of that bino harness should open towards the front so you aren't fighting with the flap every time you use it. Magnet closure is a huge help too.
I use a bore sight that slides into the barrel and has different tips for different calibers to make it centered i feel something like that is a little more accurate than a magnet bore sight
Hey flair loves the vids just throwing a tip because we do a lot of grind for deer. Put the end of the casing on the nozzle of the grinder and let it fill it up and work it down as it fills.
Bro! We love the walmart catch and cooks!! It would be cool to see you guys use the youth bow on a buck. That's a real challenge right there, buddy. Congratulations on your family and success. My second child is on the way. A baby girl! We are looking into buying property and starting a farm. You and the googan boys are a huge inspiration to young men. Keep up the hard work!!!
You should have gone with the 45-70. I live in Ohio and we have to hunt with straight wall cartridges so when I turned 18 I bought myself a 45-70 Henry and boy do I love that thing!
Shot my biggest buck with a 6.5 creedmoor real close, like 30 yards. Followed a red carpet 20 yards straight to him. I think it’s all about shot placement
Been watching your channel since I was like 10 or younger, 15 now, kinda weird to think about. Came back to your channel after a while, love what you’re doing and your new house is beautiful. I still miss the backyard pond and og frog catch clean cooks. You really inspired me bro. Keep it up
I learned from a guy who was next to me at an outdoor range to just bring a big ass piece of cardboard with a cross on it for a target to sight in new optics. We didn't have a bore sight but it worked.
Flair we made some of the best jalapeño deer sausage one year during late season deer hunting in Iowa and we had a bunch of snow during the time we made it!!! After we smoked it we was able to bury it in the snow to stop it from cooking further!!! We made a bunch and it was the best ever that we made for sure!!! We mixed the deer with a little bit of pig fat/ meat and some with jalapeños cheese and some with a cheder cheese!!! Both were amazing for sure and with all the snow that we had that definitely helped also!!!
Cube your meat and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes with the grinder parts to get the best result and also if you are having trouble getting the last bit of meat out throw some bread in to push it out. If you want to make a fine grind and emulsify the sausage like bologna you can add a few ice cubes to the meat and fat to get some good lunch meat.
You can always rely on Banjo to show up when there is food and the work is done 😂 Also side note top round steaks from that roast are absolutely delicious
You need to get a "lead sled". It's from Caldwell. Or any other sleds to put your gun in for a steady rest. Also you need paper targets for sighting in. Using paper and the sled you will save a lot of ammo. Should take no more than 3-4 shots
My hunting rifle is a 243 savage in the color muddy girl camo, from Walmart. And it’s never left me down. I harvested my biggest buck to date during rifle season last year a 10 point at 200 yards!
Flair a hot item will tend to taste more seasoned than its cooled and chilled counterpart. In sausage making we tend to season slightly higher than we would normally, because the chill make its so you taste the salt less.
First off, it should cure after being stuffed, in fridge for 24 hours. Then warm up to room temp before hitting smoker, and then bloom for 24 hrs after smoking...Either way i commend you for the fantastic videos.
Got my Beefcake Jerky and WOW I'm speechless!!! I've only tried the honey BBQ pork and it's amazing. Nice bite to it which was unexpected but love it! Can't wait to try the other flavors!! keep up the great work
Me and my dad have those savage rifles in 6.5 and 30-06 and they are so accurate that we can put the bullet thro the same hole. And we got them for like $300 from Cabela’s for Black Friday
Flair, I'd love to see you guys start from scratch and do a Walmart vs. Academy crossbow challenge. Where you must buy everything to take down a deer. You could take it a step farther and do a combined challenge of crossbow and ground blind vs. Tree stand too. I'd love to see what you and Banjo come up with.🎉🎉
Flair, next time you make sausage or even bologna soak your casings in water for a couple mins makes the meat slide right in the casing. Love the hunting videos
I've always wanted to try a 6.5 I've been using a .270 since I was 14 for my first rifle and it definitely does the job. Also when sighting in a rifle you are supposed to do 3 shot groupings before adjusting because you could be beathing or pulling just a tiny bit.
Little tip my grandpa taught me. If you place a rubber matt or anything soft under those windows where you shoot or cover the whole floor you won't make as much noise when the shell hits the floor ;) Great video been a while since i've watched any of your videos. Used to watch Googan Squad all the time.
I've used that stuff before and you're normally supposed to let it sit in the fridge for like 12 or 24 hours before you smoke/cook it to let the seasoning and cure work. Did you do that?
You should try come tenderloins or backstraps pan fried in butter (like a whole stick in the pan) Another good one is to coat in fryin magic and deep fry. Can be slices or 1" cubes.
The Mossberg Patriot is a good rifle and scope combo for the money. The Thompson Center Compass is a better choice for around the same money. Both use polymer stocks and have polymer integrated trigger guards. Bad news is the stocks are cheap quality but the good news is a replacement stocks are cheap because people scrap them for an aftermarket wood stock. The aftermarket wood stocks are ok, but you have to have a bolt on trigger guard which are usually steel. But the down side is the detachable magazines use the molded stock for a snap in fit, so the tolerances are very tight. The replacement wood stocks need to have good solid plastic inserts so the magazine fits and functions properly, it can be tricky to get them fitted correctly, but it can be done with shims and epoxy bedding. This is where models like the Remington 700s ADL and BDLs and detach mags are worth the extra money. Most all triggers are made for liability reasons and not hunting reasons, so most all suck so at least get one where the pull weight is adjustable. With the TC Compass, the pull weight trigger spring can be replaced with a light spring very easily.
I have a savage axis I got for 56 bucks at Walmart (clearance) and threw a trigger kit (20 bucks) and a 140 dollar scope. I also got the same exact rifle you have for 300 bucks a few years ago.
Hell yeah Walmart had the juice, I should check my local walmart out to see if they have a 223 bolt. I also let my sausage hang in the garage for 3 days after cooking to let it age a little, it comes out amazing.

Did you call the manufacturer of the rifle to see if they will replace or send you a new trigger guard? I am curious if they stand behind thier Walmart rifle or if they to bad so sad.
Idk how it is with a 6.5 but I know with the ballistics of a .270 you can sight in at 30yd and it’s dead on at 100yd a inch high at 200yd and dead on at 300yd
Mr Flair. Please, please, please keep Jake as your cameraman. He's the best you've had. Two, please keep doing the bubble head, high pitched voice thing when everyone says you're doing something wrong. Highlight of my day. Greetings from New Zealand.

What's wild is you can still get a savage bolt action in several different calibers for around the same price. All those years later.
They cost more now, but they are still value priced and shoot just fine!
@azzir325 Oh, I believe it. And for deer hunting there's no real reason for some $1500 dollar rifle anyways. I'll save that for a good AR.
Adjusting for Canadian dollars, I'm pretty sure I got the same combo as you about the same time period, and still hunting with it, and the same scope... wood stock Savage 110 with no magazine in 30-06?
Sound right assuming when you say "no magazine" you mean no removeable magazine? Mine holds 4 plus 1 in the chamber.
The idea for doing a Walmart hunting challenge and using nothing but items from Walmart would be a great video
