As a former family law attorney and a continual advocate for DV awareness, etc. it’s great to see you covering this. I’ve seen how male victims get tossed aside and just be treated horribly. The DV community doesn’t do enough for them or really acknowledge them. I’m looking forward to this series.

agree Yet will add the system treats both sexes horrible when they report. Tossed aside, treated horribly. Men they shame in a different way than they shame women. So both get screwed again when they report.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this case, so thank you for covering this. I had an ex that was extremely abusive, staying up for days on Adderall, and when I left her (I stayed longer than I should cause I felt so bad for her then 8 year old daughter who clung to me). I was served a protection order although I was the one being stalked & harassed. I took it to court and brought all the text messages, where I only answered with one word, and the judge immediately tossed out the case. What I found amazing was if I didn't go to court that order would have went thru and would have been on record for any future employer to see. I had to take a day off work and print out over 50 pages of texts I somehow converted to my mother's computer, I'm not a tech guy so that took days. It was the worst situation I ever been in in my life with a woman. Thankfully God blessed me years later with my now wife, but it was an experience I will never forget.

How sad, but thank God you're in a better place now. Like Kevin, I'm very concerned for that woman with any child in her custody! So scary!! I listened to a stream last night where a single dad (the mom just bailed on be & her 3-year-old daughter) went from the kettle to the fire. He found a really good job, was able to buy a nearby house and hire the next door neighbor (the bosses wife) to babysit BUT after changing her story 7 times (sound familiar?) She was FINALLY charged with felony murder for...omg is awful, hitting this 3 yr old "upper cut with her fist knocking the child out!!" She never regained consciousness & died 9 days later!! I can't begin to fathom. Honestly, I've been fortunate when I hear some of these stories. I had one terrible sitter I fired quickly & early on with my first, I listened to my BABY, who let me know something wasn't right at that sitter! I thought she'd be great as she was a foster parent, but come to find out, she allowed the older children to "care for" my then 3 mo old. When I left the day the woman made fun of my daughter for crying upon seeing her, requested my belongings back (I left this items there during the week as it was too much to transport playpen - VERY EXPENSIVE from France my bosses have me, stroller, et al., I learned the playpen was destroyed where some older child tore out the side to get in with my daughter while she napped & do God knows what. Knowing what I now know, I should have turned that woman in to DHS and had her license as a foster care employee revoked. She was absolutely a nightmare! The other one later on did not hurt my children but she was more of a negligent sitter as opposed to an abusive one. I'll not go into detail because it's a long story and unlikely pales in comparison to what you've seen but it's just scary! We take for granted that the people we meet and deal with are as mentally competent and reliable as we are when in fact they're nowhere close!! Both those women needed mental help! Sadly, the 2nd one did what she did because she learned she was pregnant & treated it like she had become a porcelain doll who couldn't be bothered with my kids!

So glad you are covering this. I initially felt sorry for Alice. It looked like she had been blindsided when her husband left her for another woman. The reality appears to have been very different: her own unhinged behaviour has been her undoing. The vicious spite she has demonstrated and the obvious attempts to twist subsequent issues shows a very manipulative character. They were not wealthy in comparison to most Hollywood couples. Lived in Brentwood in a modest house that she refuses to sell. She hasn’t worked in years even though there was a full time nanny. She has now done her career irreparable harm as id imagine nobody will touch her with a barge pole.

As a female DV survivor, it is unacceptable that any parent should use their children to be pawns in the relationship. I was fortunate not to have a child with my ex-husband. So when I finally left, it was only myself to fend for. It would have been incredibly difficult if we had children. Although, he had taken that from me also through his abuse. I truly pray that he can find some legal help to resolve the issue of the children and get out of this insane situation!🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖

Snoopy, when I was going through this, my mom had passed a few months before and I had a child who was only a few months old. While my city did have a group for DV survivors, it was made up of women and I mostly felt like the last thing they would really need is some male coming into their safe space. Perhaps I was just making a false assumption, but I wouldn’t want for that.
I am not sure if there is a feeling of mocking or not. We did see some of that during the JD trial particularly from “journalists” during and after. But I wouldn’t want to assume that from survivors themselves

I'm very glad that Alice's behaviour and actions are now receiving more scrutiny. The very public way she handled him leaving the marriage and the way she seemed to have a vendetta against both him and his new partner was disturbing. It seemed at the time he left the marriage like she was using their children as a weapon against him, and as a child who grew up with a pair of personality disordered parents, her behaviour was very triggering to me, and hard to escape in the UK at the time, because she was popping up everywhere. Lots and lots of red flags. Ioan, on the other hand, was dignified and silent throughout. Very much like Johnny Depp has always been. I hope he's now able to get some justice. I can imagine that being in a relationship with her for the amount of time he was was very soul destroying.

I am so glad you are looking into this new case. I have been interested in this relationship and the two people involved for a number of years. It seems that Ioan Gruffudd is going to have one hell of a time getting away from, getting a divorce, from Alice Evans. In fact, I remember reading that she told him she would pull an Amber Heard on him. She has been vindictive and scary on Twitter and threatens Ioan with his children; not allowing him to see them and all the dirty behaviors that some women pull to get even with a man when they no longer want to be with them. I have had the feeling that there may have been some IPV in their relationship, meaning Alice is the perpetrator. Anyway, thank you for looking into this.

I find it utterly ridiculous that people in this day and age that people think men can't be abused. I had a female friend when I was younger who was and still is an absolute psychopath. I had seen her attack her boyfriend violently every time she was drunk and he just took it. Any time I saw these alterations I never knew what to do I was so young at the time.
They did eventually break up but she would not let him move on. She stalked and harassed him and his new girlfriend and she did so gleefully. I hated being her friend but I was scared of her and thought it better to keep quiet. The things this girl would do were so shocking.
Years later after she moved and I didnt have to see her anymore I started telling people the things she had done one of which was smashing a brick into someone's face. Not ones person believed me, why? because men can't be abused and two she was an extremely beautiful blonde and petite. Model good looks which made her so narcissistic and yet somehow her looks meant she wasn't an Insane psycho and she used this to her benefit. I wish people would educate themselves on narcissistic abuse and what it looks like.
She has children now I heard and I dread to think what growing up with her as a mother will do to them. I just hope she's changed but I doubt it because people rarely do.

It is so many who take that easy way to judge, but this is not about how a woman are abusive compere to how a man are abusive! or react in a ugly divorce. This is about abusive or (disturbed) human beings! When a brake up happened ,it is very little truth we really know! In my experience (it is a lot) The reality could be the completely opposite than told from one of the ex partners. Using their children in the battle are very mean,so that tell a lot about the parents personality. So that is very revealing! and sad. Both men and woman could be a mess in this situation and act like their lost their mind -Both can be a She devil, like in the movie "She Devil" Lovesickness actually make some insane for a period, like being in love could make people in a way insane too ;) This is not a evidence they must have a personality disorder,or be an evil person. This could only be for a very difficult time in their life, and after a while they will be them selves again both men & woman. Having this in our mind please. Just read Helly Poppys comment under here! A war between woman & Men is not what the world need! It has to stop now! I must add: I have great respect for Andrea as a lawyer, and her wise speeches. But the genuin expert on this issues, are the real victims and people really been in this situations themselves. What we really need is a war against genuin Narcsisisst/Sociopaths/Psycopaths! Expose them in all levels in the society now!

I think what many of the commenters here don't realise is what's going down in real time on Twitter after Andrea posted this video link to her followers. Alice immediately jumped in and has been responding and commenting directly to tweets - denying everything that is alleged in court papers, saying Ioan is lying and that she will happily swear under oath blah blah blah, playing the doting mother who is worried how all this will affect her kids. Effectively breaking her TRO AGAIN by discussing Ioan on SM - to a lawyer no less who is covering her case - how Meta (and dumb) is that? The insanity is real.
Hopefully Andrea will calmly point out how Alice has had multiple opportunities in a court of law to state her case 'under oath' and failed to do so. Hence the criminal charges. That she is using her kids again as ammo to stop Andrea from simply covering a situation entirely driven and escalated by Alice alone shows how depraved she is. She's never once cared about her kids and how her behaviour affects them. But suddenly she's Mary Poppins, is 'in a happy place' and meany old Andrea is going to ruin her life. No Alice, that's all on you.
The court papers provide actual proof, not hearsay, of Alice's endless streams of publicly documented tweets and posts on IG about Ioan and Bianca - genuinely nutty and willingly spewing every aspect of her Divorce and private life - and that of her children - out into the public domain for any nutsack to latch onto. Ioan has always keeps resolutely silent, despite horrific goading by Alice in public on SM. This is irrefutable cold, hard proof and Alice seems to think if she deletes stuff, it didn't happen and won't be used in court. It's either rampant narcissism and arrogance, or serious mental illness, but her delusion game is strong.
Edit: It appears Alice has closed her Twitter account. Again. Probably to delete all her latest nonsense. Except there are people out there who take screenshots and keep all the receipts. Give it till Andrea uploads the next video and she'll pop right back up again....

      @PaleTyche Рік тому +19

She might have deleted her Twitter (she'll soon be back as one of her aggressive supporters has told her followers) so her past tweets cannot be searched right now.
As in the past, Alice has tweeted a lot in support of Johnny Depp and against Amber Heard (even claiming to be like a wronged Depp and comparing Ioan to Heard) and right now her aggressive (allegedly a lawyer?) fan is also a big Amber Heard fan is trying to get all the Amber Heard supporters to support Alice as well (against Andrea whom they disparagingly call a "Depphead") and try to make a case that Alice has always supported Amber Heard and therefore should be supported by Amber supporters who would help her to attack Andrea.
(It sounds completely ridiculous. But their tweets are real. Even teenagers have more sense than these cyberbullies).
I look forward to Andrea analysing and dissecting Alice's case and presenting it to us in her usual level-headed and poised manner. Just worried about the online abuse she will get from Alice directly, through her countless sock accounts, and by proxy.

@@PaleTyche The Wayback Machine is everyone's friend. Except Alice LOL. Yes she has some absolutely batshit crazy followers who swear black is white in her 'defence' despite literally mountains of documented evidence to the contrary available for all to see. They usually have agendas of their own or love living vicariously through Alice's drama as it gives them purpose and makes a change from talking to their cats. It's scary how myopic they are in their blind support of her and allow themselves to be whipped up to bully and harass on her behalf. Extremely infantile and extremely unhinged. Like Alice (in my opinion at least). Thankfully the Family and Criminal Courts in L.A don't operate via Alice's fantasy Court of Social Media. They do real world shit and it's hitting the fan for her in a very serious and very big way. Getting combative on Twitter and mentioning her ex (who she's legally bound NOT to mention thanks to a court issued RO) with actual lawyers and their followers - after failing to show for two court dates (where she had ample opportunities to state her case/defence under oath but chose not to) and now facing imminent criminal proceedings along with a custody hearing - has got to be one of the dumbest and most destructive things she's done (lately). It proves she doesn't give a shit about her kids and only about getting the last word and feeding off the attention. It all could've been so different...

Thank you for covering this. As someone who has been a DV survivor and who has a child and co parents with that same person (and sadly but for my own reasons I am still co-habitating with) I am always interested in hearing about the legal side.
From my own experience I know that it’s hard as a male. In my experience my ex partner confessed to the abuse and was charged but they let her please down to breaking the restraining order (she called me from jail 17 times to bail her out and then had a bail bondsman call me to bail her out).
In time I took her back because I believed she might have just been going through post pardum depression.
I’ve had a unique experience to see that someone who has charges of DV even thought they only get charged with the lessor charge of breaking a restraining order, have their professional lives impacted. But I’ve also seen and experienced how that can change that person’s perspective (I’ve heard a few times now “if I’m going to be charged I might as well make it worth it”, though it’s only been a threat and nothing violent like that has happened to me personally, as I try and defuse situations and or leave).
But I have also seen how hard it is to even report some situations.
In my own experience it might not be personal violence. It can be withholding the child hand off, and when you try and report to the police / sheriff, they tell you to take it up with the family court. Of course family court will only take it up if you have some sort of documentation. And for every time that happens it just emboldens / empowers the other person to do it again.
Now, factor that into the cost and time it would take to do court and add in the chances that your child will be affected or what might happen when not in your custody, and sometimes it just becomes easier to stay and try and keep things calm.
Even at the high cost it can claim (both monetarily and in peace of mind at times).
Anyways probably oversharing but I just mean to say, seeing someone, anyone, speaking to it is encouraging.
I know personally even if I have felt like sharing I often hear people just say “report it or go to court” as if they fully understand what that process is like for a man.
So really, I appreciate someone even speaking to this. ❤

I understand your frustration & hesitancy to call authorities &/or report. If nothing else document if & when there is any abuse that way you have a record, just in case. Hopefully, family court will soon catch up to the fact that women can be the perpetrator of abuse, as well as recognizing the importance of maintaining the relationship between a father & any children. Ensuring there is no parental alienation & if there is, there needs to be consequences.
      Wishing you all the best.

Thanks, I have and I do. I confess that I am not always good at documenting all the days I take my daughter to school and pick her up but then the school does. And I’ve been more diligent about documenting other things. A few months back my ex took my phone while I was documenting and wouldn’t give it back. Thankfully I have another phone for work and the two are connected via find my phone, so I was able to find it later and get it back.
But primarily I just leave things alone when I can and try to ensure that things stay calm.
I doubt I will need to go to court unless I decide to challenge custody arrangement which is Saturday to Tues afternoon (my days) and Tues afternoon to Saturday morning (her days). Which is why I let my ex stay with me if I want to have my daughter in school in my town versus where her grandma lives (my ex’s mom lives about 75 miles away). Which means I almost always pay for everything, and try to stay outnumber her way when she is feeling depressed or frustrated ect. But, if you’re a parent you know that you’d almost do anything to be able to have your children around all the time and know they are primarily in a good place that you have some semblance of contributing to. So sacrifices are ok at this point, especially given the family law system.
I’m actually lucky. I know of others who have had their ex’s claim sexual abuse or DV and end up with full custody as well as child support ect and they never get time with their kids. Or others who have spent countless trips to court and tens of thousands of dollars just to be able to have some kind of joint custody.
The real victims in those scenarios always seems to me to be the children. :/

This is always a sad situation. This is why my father would not divorce my mother. He endured life with my mother much too long. Living in a small town has it's benefits and it's drawbacks.

I do agree totally with you that Johhny Depp had more physical resources than the average man, but as a human, that was being abused and emotionally controlled, I believe we all are on the same level. He could physically remove himself from the abuse at times but not emotionally.

My daughter had 6 years of her physically abusive ex continuing with verbal & emotional abuse after she left him. The 4 kids were horribly impacted by his tactics. He & his new g’friend & the g’friends best friend, concocted a story of lies & my daughter got arrested, facing 20yrs in jail. Thanks to CCTV & the ‘three amigos’ each telling a different lie, the case against my daughters was dropped by the state prosecutor (before it got to court) because of lack of evidence…..because of course, she didn’t do what she was accused of. Now she’s happily single, the kids refuse to have anything to do with their father (3 are over 18yrs of age). Awful time but everyone is healing…..

Please, oh please, oh please tell me he has primary physical custody of those two girls! I should say something here about Evans. In my spare time I administer to fansites. Fansites are those things one created on an actor such as Gruffudd. There was one a while back after he did "Fantastic Four" and the sequel "The Silver Surfer." The admins of the site were contacted by Gruffudd, himself, and was offered exclusive details and pictures and his contribution to the forum included with the site. Evans signed up and began posting things to the fans, but then ironically Evans' behaviour sort of came out at that point. It was believed at the time her conduct had to do with her disagreeing and or pushing up against the owners of the site. One of the owners of the site pushed back against Evans and called her out on her abusive behaviour. Evans shut the site down by contacting the ICANN registry and had the domain pulled. We all thought at the time it was the admins. Looks like it was her all along.

I'm so glad Andrea is researching this case, I've been aware of it from the outset due to living here in the UK and it being played out in the tabloids/social media. Having worked in a solicitors (family law), it's egregious how men are treated - I couldn't help but overhear throw-away comments and conversations between solicitors who were so contemptuous of men in general and how confident they were at tying them up legally for a long time to the point they'd would give up attempting to gain access to their children, let alone joint or sole custody. That was back in the early 2000s, I hope things have changed considerably since then.

I'd read this story several years back, although it wasn't given much media coverage.
Ioan has really had a rough time. I feel for him.
Obviously I feel for victims of DV as well but using accusations as weapons in family court is unfortunately more common that most people like to admit.
Johnny Depp is a rich, handsome and famous one percenter and even he is still being slammed on social media, having various groups write Amicus briefs and open letters, etc.
If he didn't have the finances to pay for years of lawyers I think Depp would still be considered an abuser. Heck some "people" still blame him. I digress.
Bottom line he did clear his name in court. However I honestly doubt his career will fully recover mainly because of AH supporters who have spent the last 8 or 9 months poisoning the well and distorting the verdict.
