They should do what they did to the sin, just remove bonewall sinergy and add to the others instead of just boosting bone, that way you can spend those extra points into summons, that shouldnt affect pvp that much and would improve necro in pvm.
I've just started stockpiling tokens so i can go fishy style necro and hammerdin, then token for pvp... Wish we could set dual specs and swap for gold or something in town
They should buff it further for pve. As for pvp if you ever want to duel you can always rule that necros can only put X hard points into the spells you feel are OP or just limit the synergies they can invest in it. Since there is no matchmaking you can just refuse to play with those who wont comply. Simple.
Imo they should've only buffed the damage against monsters, and keep it the same vs. players. There are other spells in the game that work like this, I'm pretty sure, so there's precedent for balancing in this way
Exactly! Ideas like this and adding an aoe/splash damage to certain attacks is a great way to buff a skill in pvm without making too much of a negative impact on pvp.

I have a Summon Necro I made awhile ago and just never played him. I decided to turn him into one of these Bonemancers. One thing I like about Coooley's builds is how he uses different gear to make his builds better. I have my Hoto, but I was using a Arm of King Leoric Wand. So I decided to use it on this build. Now I can Summon 8 Skeletons and 8 Skeleton Mages I also put on my Marrowwalk Boots they give +2 to Skeleton Mastery. While My Skeletons are fighting my enemies I'm blasting them with maxed out Bone skills.
I had a bone necro back in the days when i was young, arrogant and did pvp hahah :D It would kinda fit to my playstyle today, since you dont really have to aim alot with it and i'm playing on 400 mouse dpi (used to it from shooters) :D Thanks for the vid Cooley!

I never pvp before but I've wanted to since laster ladder. I struggled with mental health shenanigans and even wasted the cheap litle dudu circ i got for pvp by tossing it to a random. I was convinced on jsp to go bone necro for reasons of affordability and sake of learning pvp yesterday so. The way you paint the battlefield with spirits and tele into them is coolaf tho im sure thats what youre just supposed to do.
This is probably a bad take, but they could implement some niche items / new affix that gives basic magic resistance that only applies to Bone Skills, Hammers, and the rest of the shit that does pure magic damage. Don't make the magic resistance stat apply to any of the other elements. I know this stat is already in the game on the safety shield, but you can only get 10%
necro already got the best AOE skill in the game which is Corpse Explosion, just by removing the sinergy to bonewall and boost the other sinergies similar to what they did to Sin, would allow u to spend those points into summons, that would make necro better at pvm without breaking it for pvp, and also without changing the game.

Back in LOD I would play the wwsin before people nee weapon block blocked magic attacks. Or at least alot of people where unaware at the time. Necros and hammerdins where really big and I used to love tele kicking in their face and spinning while blocking what should of killed me. Necros where my favorite to kill because they normally would wreck any melee people. But since I could block and tele kick and ww made it a breeze. I'd say the wwsin is one of the highest counters to necros. But I havnt dueled in ten years alots changes
Hey Coooley, here is an idea I have heard floating around: What if the bone skills did Physical damage instead of magic? For PvM it would synergize with amp and scale better, and from my understanding phys is a lot easier to deal with than magic in PVP.
@@BrianCheng24 I figure having to actually get amp (or decrep) on them makes it a more difficult duel. Also if its phys damage I believe there are a lot more damage reduction options (shako, SS, etc). I am very new to PVP so I don't know if the change would be good, but seems like a change worth considering.
@@bobnewkirk7003 that's a good point. DR is maxed at 50% but at least it's a form of damage mitigation. Magic is the only skill in the game where you have absolutely no damage mitigation which is why hammers are so strong.
It wouldnt make any sense from a lore perspective. Gameplay wise its a bad choice because the nec can just use amplify damage. Make no mistake, with +skill from gear AMP got enormous range and its really easy to curse your opponent. Once your ennemy is amped, bone spirit will basically hit as hard as hammer if you had 50 dr before amp, and even harder than hammer if you had no DR at all
Hey cooley, great video but I think your damage estimates are high. In the ptr with white ,the 3+ PNB head and 3+ PNB circ, your bs spear was 7.6k. The patch 2.3 build you showed that was doing 5.6k (hoto, spirit, 2+ helm) damage you said would be close to 7.9k. I think it will be closer to 6.9k.
Also.. keep up the great work. You are one of the only content creators who focus on PvP. I believe the devs really need to keep pvp in mind. PvP is the only thing that prevents the game becoming a ghost town a few months after ladder. Fun fact my first two decades of playing diablo I never played ladder. When I was young I thought the whole point of the game was to build up pvp characters as fast as possible and duel. I didn't experience my first ladder until 2020 in path of Diablo.

The reason Llamasc and dbrunski haven't talked about the pvp aspect much, is because they dont know anything about pvp. Given we want to max out +8 pnb from (shield, head and necklace) maintaining 125fcr, I don't think there's any benefit using darkforce over spirit shield (except lowering 55fhr is the major benefit you think) I quickly ran some numbers, Darkforce setting(with magic head and caster ammy) vs Spirit Setting (with magic head and 3pnb/10fcr) #sockets: 3 > 2 #prefix free: 3 > 0 resistance: 0 < 105 strength needed: 0 > 30 life: 0 < 44 mana: 10%manapool + 10%regen = 112 dex needed for 75%: 393 < 288 in short, we gain +3 more free prefix spots in ammy and +1 socket from darkforce setting by giving up 75 dex (negating 105 more dex required for 75% block with 30 more str required for monarch shield), 105 resistance and 44 life. Could be argued differently based on if we want our nec to have 75% block or not, 105 res might not be relevant when pking with physical chars. What do you guys think?
Can you explain how less it recovery is better? I am aware of how it works now but isn’t it still better to have some if it is free? The first hit before you go on the temporary immunity would put you in to fewer recovery frames if you have more FHR right?
I think the immunity frames are at a time interval, if you have 0 fhr, if you’re sent into hit recovery it times perfectly with the immunity frames by the time you recover. If you have fhr you have fewer frames to recover so with enough fhr you can be sent into hit recovery 2 times before the immunity frames kick in. So the new patch just made fhr obsolete in pvp altogether.
Its not better to have less. Having some is still good. However there will be somewhat random case where you will be punished for having too much fhr. That a part of why the new stun immunity mechanic sucks hardcore. Its in big part random and goes against any logical game design
With some "basic necro pvp" gear (Eni+boneshade+shako+mara+1soj+arach+spirit+Torch+anni+3xBPGC's) so skill lvl 42 - Bone Spirit does 5700 minimum dmg per hit :) People say that hammer does way more dmg (GOD tier pvp hammer 15k-17k), that is only partially true.. you have to remember that the distance between each hammer is like 20-30% bigger compared to Bone Spirit spam (both) at 125% FCR. Oh and don't forget of a top tier "near perf" Blizzard sorc she can usually 1 hit a bone necro (18k dmg)

They should add some for of resilience to magic damage when it comes from players. That way they can be tuned appropriately for PVM without breaking PVP
Assa and smiters gonna struggle hard with bone nec now lol, i guess the best anti would be bvc and just zerk him. People undervalue frw on barb. But for zerk chains its inzane. I ran valk 08 + hl 08 on asgard vs the best players there is on d2, and then nec had no counter vs such zerk chains, cause necs natural run south style vs zerk chains fails due to barb running so fast, with throwlock chains barb can run-zerk-chain. Ofc 63fcr is needed. I actually ran some 105 as well, but that was with wiz gloves xD Now when we dont need fhr, a 2/20/30frw/adds/2soc diadem + arach + trangs + 10fcr adds ring + wisp/nature for oak barb will be a viable contender to nec, if nec is able to run style out of zerk, swap hl for cats and i promise if ur good at chaining no nec will be able to get away. The more they def, the easier the hunt becomes. Most good nec will work around the barb in triangle spamming spirits in the center of that triangle, but zerk should 2 hit him.. Rely on oak.
Hey Cooley, WDYT if they brought Bone Spear\Spirit damage back to where it was, but reduced the synergies? For example, consolidate the bone wall\prison synergies. So you would get max damage just by maxing teeth + bone spear + bone spirit.

You should make an intro to PVP video. A lot of us casuals have played tons of PVM but are intimidated by pvp. I don't really know the rules, manners, jargon/language, etc and it makes me not want to get into it. Looks like fun though!
Hello for Season 3 ladder in weapon, Shield, boots and rings i have a doubt. What is best for damage and duel ? White or hoto ? Spirit or spaw Head ??? In boots treks , Aldurs or a boot with Poison resist, fire resist and lighting resist + 30 or above ? In the rings 2 sojs is better or one soj and one natures piece ? Or one soj and one ring with ALL resistances + FCR ???
I don't understand why they can't just give characters magic damage reduction vs other characters to eliminate this problem. Then they could buff the magic damage all they want and preserve pvp by adding more damage reduction.
Or add gear, charms and jewels that have % magic dmg reduction so you can look for it in pvm and make a build for pvp that specifically is good against magic damage
Nerfs to stuns buffs to Necros, enjoy the new meta where you’re trying to kill each other from 2 screens away. Defensive hard hitting builds is the new pvp meta, telestomping builds are really not worth it anymore when you can just spam from 2 screens away.
I’m still confused on the block rate and FHR change. The only thing the patch notes say is.. FHR has diminishing returns while hit by another player. Well that does that mean you should still hit 86 and they will diminish from 86 to lower breakpoints? Does it mean maybe not worry about FHR anymore? No clue.. 🤦♂️
Im guessing that you want to het put into hit recovery faster and more often to essentially reduce the effectiveness of cc faster than you would with more fhr lol

Every charm in the inventory is rarer than a Zod rune tho lol. I only play single player so I don't know the D2 market at all, and even less about PvP. But I imagine this build is basically fictional for a bunch of reasons right? As someone who only plays single player I'm mega biased toward PVM play, and have been butthurt for quite awhile that virtually every single viable necro build is some variation of a corpse explode necro. Not that this patch really is going to change that...

I used to play a Hammerdin in FFA fights like 15 years ago, and I always used the Sanctuary Shield with Slow Missile on swap. How do you deal with that? Is it manageable?
Thats way to high of a reduction, its fine how it is now. Doesn't need a reduction Doesn't need buff in pvp but it does need a huge buff in pvm. I seen someone said splash dmg in pvm that sounds nice.
Also in LOD days i played a pvp Nec and you would mainly use bone spear maybe the fhr change's are whats to blame since you can't fhr lock with spear well anymore so that leads to a playstyle of run and cast spirit instead.
Maybe an unpopular opinion: I would like to see some *BM Builds* and video tutorials for noobs to learn, coming from the pros. Which could also include counter measure tutorials against BM players, if any? You know the game is full of them already. A large portion of the community knows this. I say give everyone a chance to BM, but hope it's in a GM manner. (Meaning no naked kills, but fun stuff like bone prison charges. Or wolf charges on hdin to act as meat shield. Or how to properly make use of merc stomping. Or benefits of Cleglaws on a rabies druid/cs zon. Or lower res wands on swap) The most BM of the BM, are vet players who know their shit. I would assume most noobs have more of a heart when it comes to dueling manners. Teach everybody the full in's and out's of the game including BM and not just the cookie cutter GM builds where they still get rekt without knowing why
Unfortunately it's hard to create content about BM duels because BM dueling is often associated with hacks like autoaim, TMC, auto tp, etc. That's what people do they ruin the fun of things by taking it too far. If you can keep BM clean of hacks I'm all about it. Very similar to NH pking in RuneScape, anything goes.

When they started hinting at the possibility of making balance changes, I knew D2R was doomed in terms of pvp balance. The original game went through painstaking patches to fix balance to the point where there's at least a decent enough balance to make every class viable in pvp through some spec, with a sort of a rock-paper-scissor type counter system. Now they're throwing all of that out of the window by being arrogant enough to think that they can make balance better. And don't even dream of new runewords being remotely balanced, if they ever get introduced.
It kinda annoys me how every other streamer just brushes these changes off like “whatever it makes no diff in pvm” but don’t even bother to test them in pvp when they know it’s going to be op. All of them besides you that is cooley. Keep it up.
If they wanted to make necros more viable in pvm they should have just buffed teeth a little bit or something. Cause necros still don’t have aoe and a pvm necro is still a corpse explode necro. Now I’ll feel guilty doing any pvp with my necro and he’s my main :(
If they introduced magic damage reduction by % equipment, charms, and jewels then people could have fun gearing up against the necro in PvP. Dunno if this is a good solution but at least there would be instances where the necro would have a hard time.

Not really that Bowa he fought was garbage. Max gear/Stat bowa vs. This build gonna win everytime. You can out run bone spirit. He had to Tele on the bowa, and she didn't have fanat aura. Higher ias and he was dead.

Adding a 5th res. Magic should be on par with other elements.

in short, we gain +3 more free prefix spots in ammy and +1 socket from darkforce setting by giving up 75 dex (negating 105 more dex required for 75% block with 30 more str required for monarch shield),
105 resistance and 44 life.
Could be argued differently based on if we want our nec to have 75% block or not, 105 res might not be relevant when pking with physical chars.

Can you explain how less it recovery is better? I am aware of how it works now but isn’t it still better to have some if it is free? The first hit before you go on the temporary immunity would put you in to fewer recovery frames if you have more FHR right?
I think the immunity frames are at a time interval, if you have 0 fhr, if you’re sent into hit recovery it times perfectly with the immunity frames by the time you recover. If you have fhr you have fewer frames to recover so with enough fhr you can be sent into hit recovery 2 times before the immunity frames kick in. So the new patch just made fhr obsolete in pvp altogether.

Its not better to have less. Having some is still good. However there will be somewhat random case where you will be punished for having too much fhr. That a part of why the new stun immunity mechanic sucks hardcore. Its in big part random and goes against any logical game design
I played pretty aggressive with my old bone mancer there was only a couple match ups I would play defensive that was windy druids and hammerdins

Summoner isn't good for pvp. You have no way of resummoning your minions as a necro efficiently
I been sayin it, all they gotta do is give the damn thing fireball's aoe and bring the damage back down. Huge buff to pvm without really touching pvp.

With some "basic necro pvp" gear (Eni+boneshade+shako+mara+1soj+arach+spirit+Torch+anni+3xBPGC's) so skill lvl 42 - Bone Spirit does 5700 minimum dmg per hit :) People say that hammer does way more dmg (GOD tier pvp hammer 15k-17k), that is only partially true.. you have to remember that the distance between each hammer is like 20-30% bigger compared to Bone Spirit spam (both) at 125% FCR. Oh and don't forget of a top tier "near perf" Blizzard sorc she can usually 1 hit a bone necro (18k dmg)

People undervalue frw on barb. But for zerk chains its inzane. I ran valk 08 + hl 08 on asgard vs the best players there is on d2, and then nec had no counter vs such zerk chains, cause necs natural run south style vs zerk chains fails due to barb running so fast, with throwlock chains barb can run-zerk-chain. Ofc 63fcr is needed. I actually ran some 105 as well, but that was with wiz gloves xD
Now when we dont need fhr, a 2/20/30frw/adds/2soc diadem + arach + trangs + 10fcr adds ring + wisp/nature for oak barb will be a viable contender to nec, if nec is able to run style out of zerk, swap hl for cats and i promise if ur good at chaining no nec will be able to get away. The more they def, the easier the hunt becomes. Most good nec will work around the barb in triangle spamming spirits in the center of that triangle, but zerk should 2 hit him.. Rely on oak.
Hey Cooley, WDYT if they brought Bone Spear\Spirit damage back to where it was, but reduced the synergies? For example, consolidate the bone wall\prison synergies. So you would get max damage just by maxing teeth + bone spear + bone spirit.
With that dmg looks like it would be viable for farming chaos too

You should make an intro to PVP video. A lot of us casuals have played tons of PVM but are intimidated by pvp. I don't really know the rules, manners, jargon/language, etc and it makes me not want to get into it. Looks like fun though!

In boots treks , Aldurs or a boot with Poison resist, fire resist and lighting resist + 30 or above ? In the rings 2 sojs is better or one soj and one natures piece ? Or one soj and one ring with ALL resistances + FCR ???
I don't understand why they can't just give characters magic damage reduction vs other characters to eliminate this problem. Then they could buff the magic damage all they want and preserve pvp by adding more damage reduction.
Or add gear, charms and jewels that have % magic dmg reduction so you can look for it in pvm and make a build for pvp that specifically is good against magic damage
Nerfs to stuns buffs to Necros, enjoy the new meta where you’re trying to kill each other from 2 screens away. Defensive hard hitting builds is the new pvp meta, telestomping builds are really not worth it anymore when you can just spam from 2 screens away.

I’m still confused on the block rate and FHR change. The only thing the patch notes say is.. FHR has diminishing returns while hit by another player. Well that does that mean you should still hit 86 and they will diminish from 86 to lower breakpoints? Does it mean maybe not worry about FHR anymore? No clue.. 🤦♂️

Every charm in the inventory is rarer than a Zod rune tho lol. I only play single player so I don't know the D2 market at all, and even less about PvP. But I imagine this build is basically fictional for a bunch of reasons right? As someone who only plays single player I'm mega biased toward PVM play, and have been butthurt for quite awhile that virtually every single viable necro build is some variation of a corpse explode necro. Not that this patch really is going to change that...

Thats way to high of a reduction, its fine how it is now. Doesn't need a reduction Doesn't need buff in pvp but it does need a huge buff in pvm. I seen someone said splash dmg in pvm that sounds nice.
Also in LOD days i played a pvp Nec and you would mainly use bone spear maybe the fhr change's are whats to blame since you can't fhr lock with spear well anymore so that leads to a playstyle of run and cast spirit instead.
They need to make seperate skills just for PvP.

I would like to see some *BM Builds* and video tutorials for noobs to learn, coming from the pros. Which could also include counter measure tutorials against BM players, if any? You know the game is full of them already. A large portion of the community knows this. I say give everyone a chance to BM, but hope it's in a GM manner.
(Meaning no naked kills, but fun stuff like bone prison charges. Or wolf charges on hdin to act as meat shield. Or how to properly make use of merc stomping. Or benefits of Cleglaws on a rabies druid/cs zon. Or lower res wands on swap)
The most BM of the BM, are vet players who know their shit. I would assume most noobs have more of a heart when it comes to dueling manners. Teach everybody the full in's and out's of the game including BM and not just the cookie cutter GM builds where they still get rekt without knowing why

Unfortunately it's hard to create content about BM duels because BM dueling is often associated with hacks like autoaim, TMC, auto tp, etc. That's what people do they ruin the fun of things by taking it too far.
If you can keep BM clean of hacks I'm all about it. Very similar to NH pking in RuneScape, anything goes.

When they started hinting at the possibility of making balance changes, I knew D2R was doomed in terms of pvp balance. The original game went through painstaking patches to fix balance to the point where there's at least a decent enough balance to make every class viable in pvp through some spec, with a sort of a rock-paper-scissor type counter system. Now they're throwing all of that out of the window by being arrogant enough to think that they can make balance better. And don't even dream of new runewords being remotely balanced, if they ever get introduced.

If they introduced magic damage reduction by % equipment, charms, and jewels then people could have fun gearing up against the necro in PvP. Dunno if this is a good solution but at least there would be instances where the necro would have a hard time.

Not really that Bowa he fought was garbage. Max gear/Stat bowa vs. This build gonna win everytime. You can out run bone spirit. He had to Tele on the bowa, and she didn't have fanat aura. Higher ias and he was dead.
