  • @madderz952
    @madderz952 7 місяців тому +516

    I disagree. This was absolutely the right move by Giannis.
    If the bucks struggle at any point of the season, which is to be expected, without Giannis locked in a contract this can cause more team drama or at the very least be an extra challenge to team chemistry.
    This way it's like, why invite trouble? Shut the door in the face of drama. This squad is locked in for at least 2-3 years. They have enough pressure, they know the expectations, there's no need to add uncertainty to it or increase the pressure (which can often come from the media and outside the organization).
    Trust is a two way street. The Bucks went out and got Dame. They earned that ink from Giannis.

    The great thing about Giannis is, I believe he could've made more if he signed it next year instead, but he signed it earlier taking less money. He always signs his extensions a year earlier. Back in offseason before the '20-'21 Season, he signed his extension early back then because he didn't want the media to be asking him or his teammates all year about "If Giannis is re-signing or not". He didn't want those distractions & said he didn't want to put his teammates through that either, and they went on to win the chip that season. He's truly a great teammate!

    GIannis grew up watching football and in football (Especially the 90s/2000s) you're a fan of a CLUB and you have favorite players you support, not the other way around. Barcelona, Madrid and United fans didn't stop supporting their clubs and switch to PSG or Juve/Madrid when Messi or Ronaldo left, they were still fans of whatever team they supported and followed the careers of their fave players. In football if a player is lucky enough to make his breakthrough at a big club's academy the first preference will always be to try and stay there their whole careers. If you happen to breakthrough at a club way below your own level then leaving is inevitable, but Giannis comes from a sports culture where the team always comes first, both for fans and the players themselves. If "big market" meant the Knicks or Heat might give him more money he might have considered it, but if everything on the table was of almost the same value Giannis, Jokic and even Luka would always prefer the team that drafted them.
