    Castlevania III won't work? Dammit. Why can't the 3% of NES games that don't work be crappy stuff like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Back To The Future or Deadly Towers?
    Castlevania III is one of my absolute favorite NES games. Oh well.

    • @unknownstuntman3224

      wildsmiley Ouch Deadly Towers is actually one of my favs and I also really liked Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I did dislike back to the future though.

      wildsmiley The famicom version is more forgiving. Remember in order to play Castlevania 3 without frustration without save states you need the Help Me code. But yeah I will agree it does suck

    A note about them turbo buttons: Those things are designed for games that keep you mashing the buttons. The turbo function of all these aftermarket controllers is to "flash" the button signal so you keep it pressed and the turbo function gives the console the effect of you pressing the button repeatedly. The turbo knobs on the Nes Advantage-like controller (and on the original one too) determine the frequency in which the button signal is flashed. They're not supposed to alter the gameplay.

    This console looks really cool, I love how close it looks to the original, and the fact that you can play Famicom games without the converter. The controllers look kind of small, though. :F

    On the topic of RGB, it's relatively easy to understand. In a RGB cable, the different colours that make the image are carried by different wires (Red, Blue and Green) whereas in a composite cable, the colours are mixed together and travel together in the same wire (the yellow RCA cable). RGB has this advantage over composite that it gives out better defined colours and a less murky picture in general as a result. Read the wikipedia articles on composite and RGB video for more info on the topic

    Believe it or not i actually found this for sail in a retail shop years ago when i was serving in the military. Both console and controller was for sale in this place and i looked and said wtf is this? So i bought this sucker then later i learned it was significantly hard to find for sale, other than online. What are the odds? even more coincidental this was one of my first review videos i made.

    @MrGoomba909 - The reason why is because of one pin on the cartridge slot being disconnected from the NOAC. This is because the NOAC has no trace on the motherboard for the extra signal needed by Castlevania III. Only one modern Famiclone has this signal: the RetroDuo, however, its sound output is EXTREMELY distorted due to 2 missing parts on the NES sound circuit. That is fixable, but not the missing trace for the extra signal needed by Castlevania III.

    Actually I was amazed that a clone system would work with an external peripheral. Most don't, some don't even work with co-processors like the FX chip. After looking into it, I found out that the Famicom Disc System actually plugs into the cartridge port, not an expansion slot like say the Sega CD. That's probably why it works with this system.

    Another reason to get something like this is you'll notice the NES connection involves no moving parts. The pin connector for the NES is prone to wearing down and becoming difficult to use or unusable, largely due to the way the pin connectors were designed where it moves to lock in rather than just goes directly into the operational position. This is also why the top loader NES is so sought after.

    The correlation between the leaf and the raccoon comes from the fact that in the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 3 Mario turned into a tanuki not a raccoon, and the leaf is associated with the their metamorphic powers in Japanese folklore. The "raccoon" version was normal tanuki Mario, and the full suit version was a kind of upgrade.

    @dave4shmups No I don't have any issues with most NES games. Some of them just don't work, but I don't think it's due to a clean connector issue.

    I own a Generation Nex and I've only had one complaint. It seems that the audio on the system has a little "feedback" buzz whenever I play a game. My FC Twin has no problem with audio. But I seem to only encounter this slight "buzz" with the audio on Generation Nex. Have you noticed this phenomenon?

  • @shroyerdave
    @shroyerdave 14 років тому

    Wow that looks really slim, and I like the fact that is a front loader. I have the Retro Duo now but I was kinda curious if they have any front loading Super Nintendo clones as thats currently my favorite system. I actually just got the Massiah wireless Super Nintendo controllers with the lunch box and dog tag thing and they work really well. You're right about the directional pad though.

    @Wokings My sister has a Retro Duo that I bought her for Christmas of 08 or 09, and she loves it. The only real issue is the NES' sound quality is a little lacking. But the games play very well, and there aren't too many games that just don't work. It's a little cheaper than most, and you'll be able to play both NES and SNES games on it.

  • @andyflange
    @andyflange 11 років тому

    not sure on the US consoles but the PAL (UK) console had an RF (or AUX) port on the back and then the yellow (composite video) and white (phono audio - mono)
    as said in the video the NES produced sound in mono so if there is a system with red/white chances are it's still mono

  • @DJIndy
    @DJIndy 12 років тому

    You could do either, but a lot of people are not confident enough in their tech skills to attempt such feats for fear of causing greater damage, or think it's just too much work. Besides, even if you replace the connector it will eventually wear down again for the same reasons it wore down before. I've had to replace my pin connectors multiple times, though I think some of that was jumping the gun and I should have also tried cleaning the carts themselves better.

    This is actually very common problem amongst modern tvs. You need an older cathode-ray tube television. This is because of the lighbulb used in earlier tvs.

  • @ssdko
    @ssdko 12 років тому

    Just so you know. The whole leaf thing stems from Japanese folk lore. Their foxes and Tanookis (Dogs that look very similar to racoons) actually use leaves to transform them selves into humans and I think other forms. So now you know where Mario's two power ups come from

    I'm not too fond of clone systems in general,but this looks awesome. It looks like an original nes that got steamrolled. Definitely brings back a lot the nostalgia feel for a clone system.The controllers look great too..especially the arcade stick , it looks like really high arcade like quality.Though it may be overkill for 2 button nes games. I would of like it to play nes and snes games instead of famicom games, but still very cool.

  • @dave4shmups
    @dave4shmups 14 років тому

    @Gamester81, did you have any problems with cartridges not working because they weren't spotless clean? I ask because I bought one of these consoles 2 years ago from GameCrazy, and it just seemed like if the NES games (Famicom games weren't an issue for some reason) had a spec of dust on the connector pins, they wouldn't work. I ended up returning the system. Great video, BTW!!

  • @Kafei2006
    @Kafei2006 12 років тому

    If a console only has the RCA type video output, then you can be 100% sure that it only gives a composite signal. For the record, as far as I know, the only known models of the original NES capable of giving out a RGB signal were the French NES (because of their weird SECAM TV sets otherwise incapable of interpreting the colour scheme normally given by a regular PAL NES which has only composite output) and the "Famicom AV". All other official NES'es can only do composite (or only RF)

    according to Wiki,21 games are NOT compatible with NEX.
    "Messiah Entertainment, Inc.'s official compatibility list states that the system is compatible with 97.25% of NES games released in the US. Twenty-one NES games are listed as not compatible, including Castlevania III."

  • @SuperGatorfan1
    @SuperGatorfan1 14 років тому

    I have the same system, don't use it for the same reason that you mentioned. Its so difficult to get the Nes games out of the console. Plus you take the risk of damaging the label on the cart. So with all of the negatives it just didn't add up, just use the original Nes console. Good review as usual, keep up the good work. Peace.

    on the nes advantige clone the weels for the turbo buttons are for adjesting the fire rate so you hit the sweet spot wich is a bit diffrent for each shooter style game.
    To see Slow motion at it's best play Life Forse (turn the volume down tho its anoying hering the pause sound) Slow motion is just imply pausing the game rapidly (like a turbo for the start button)

  • @DGneoseeker1
    @DGneoseeker1 11 років тому

    No, I just meant that I've never really encountered problems in games that would be resolved well by pausing the game over and over again really quickly.

    Wait, did you say this clone system works with the famicom disc system?!

  • @VirginPrince
    @VirginPrince 9 років тому

    So what's the story with the game compatibility issues? I'm assuming this clone uses Nintendo-on-a-chip technology on the inside, as opposed to being built using similar components to the original NES and Famicom? That generally seems to be the culprit.

  • @Kafei2006
    @Kafei2006 12 років тому

    That's impossible, you can't get an RGB signal out of an RCA output, you can only get a composite signal (I wasn't referring to a scart plug, usually associated with the RGB output, I know there exist adapters to plug a RCA cable on a scart input on a TV, but that doesn't make the signal RGB, which compared to composite gives a much crisper image and far better colours.

    He's 100% correct. I use RGB myself even though it's of European orgins and I live in Philly. RGB kicks composite and S-Video's ass! :D Thing is both of those are compressed signals whereas RGB is uncompressed. It offers lossless color and decent bandwidth. It's the second best picture quality next to VGA computer cables. You can find NTSC RGB SCART cables through online venues such as Ebay and Amazon, they make 'em for SNES, Genesis, Xbox, Playstation1/2, Dreamcast, Satur,n etc.

    Messiah went out of business about 2 years ago. Its a shame because I think they were the only clone company that actually designed their products in the U.S. The downfall of the NEX was its price ($60) and it only came with one controller. It could not compete with the cheaper FC Twin that came with two controllers and played SNES games. By far this is the best designed clone, however it had a terrible NOAC.

    • @leadbones

      It's not a "problem". That is how slo-mo works. It's not like the controllers have a magic button that actually slows down the game or the hardware. It is rapid fire for the start button, and that is all "slo-mo" is on any controller.

    The colorpallet is better then the nes itself, mario 3 never looked soo bright & vibrant, and the design is perfect i got no complains about it.
    BTW since this clone does not work with castlevania 3, i was thinking, nintendo could,ve used this noac system for their nes classic mini as there is no castlevani 3 in their nes classic mini, it would,ve make no sense apart from the not so accurate sound and no hdmi out sound but that's oke.
