There's no way to be nice about it, Calypso is a jailer. Yes she's sad and lonely, boo-hoo. But she's still no less of a monster than Scylla or the sirens - she just has a different type of appetite.
I have laughed so hard about the "boo-hoo", you don't even know hahaha. But yes i agree. Someone can be a victim and have their reasons and experience that shape them while doing awful things at the same time!
I’m pretty sure Polites and Telamachus being so similar was intentional, since at the end of Little Wolf, Telamachus’s line “Tell me Athena, why you came to my aid” is the same melody as Polites’s “What keeps you up so late at night my friend?” in the cut song Ismarus :)
@@PompyPieYT Yes, they’re all pretty good although there’s only two full ones before they got scrapped. Those being Ismarus, which is in place of Full Speed Ahead and Your Light, in place of Open Arms.
apparently she SA'd him everyday for those 7 years. Ody gave no consent and was unwilling but really couldn do anything. Bceause of the power dynamics in relationships with gods, you seriously had no choice if a god wanted you to do something or not because the price for disobeying them is much worse than actually doing what they say. She also had kids with him and tried to use them as a way to keep him with her in a lot of versions. it's unfortunate, and this went on for 7 years as they say, in the song ody at that point lost hope of returning home to his wife and son, all his friends were gone and he wanted to just end it all to ease his suffering(which is why he's on the ledge). normal MC's get power-ups after each arc, ody gets suffering and a loss/change of morality as his power-up
Consent was a much less defined concept in 1400BC. It was generally not considered morally wrong to impose what you wanted on someone of lower status or power than you and those people were generally expected to accede whether they wanted to or not. Which is why even in the original story Ody is largely considered faithful to Penelope despite sleeping with two other women for 8 years. They were both of greater status and power than him and he was never doing so of his own free will, he was just obeying someone who had authority over him. It was a very different, and very worse, time.
I'm terrible at pronouncing names but I laughed so hard at this comment. XD Anthony does not hold the same power as Antinous! "Hello? The old Antinous can't come to the phone right now. Why? Cause he's dead!"
While calypso is definitely an uncomfortable subject.Understanding why she's like that is very important. She was cursed and banished to that island After siding with her father Atlas during the war between the titans and gods. In some versions of the myth, she is cursed to Have men wash up on her island and she will fall in love with them But rarely is this mutual and they always leave. She's basically cursed to be alone forever. Of course There are different version Of the myth, so who really knows what's certain
Thank you for sharing her backstory, I did not know that! It's sad that she is cursed forever like that and I understand her desperation, however I do not believe that she should overstep people's boundaries like that. Maybe she should just try to befriend the men that wash up and help them on their way so they could tell people she's there or something? As a way to fight her own loneliness? All of thisjust feels very wrong..
Thaaaaaat's not mythology. That's Percy Jackson. Calypso is a nymph or goddess of secrets and mythology doesn't really talk about why she lives on the island. In the Odyssey she simply detains Odysseus for 7 years enchanting him with her song to sleep with him, but eventually Odysseus can't take it anymore, spending his days sitting on the beach and crying, while at night he is forced by her in bed. Eventually, Athena asks Zeus to let him leave, which he does easily enough by sending Hermes to tell her to do so. After that Calypso provides Odysseus with the tools and materials to build a boat, and albeit displeased, sends him on his way. There's no curse, and she isn't punished to live there, as far as we know... she just lives on an island. It's even less ambiguous here as she directly refers to the island being hidden as "her spell" and she calls it "my island".
Please do more Epic reactions on animatics, okey? I love your reaction. Also I am vibing with Calypso because I love her first part is beautiful. Hate Antinous, but his voice... And I love Telemachus!
To be honest, I'm new here too. Only started uploading vids 5 days ago and had not expected it to go this well.. hahaha! but thank you for the suggestion! I did react to the animatics in a livestream after this one, which i uploaded before this one! (confusing, I know XD). If you have any other suggestions i would love to hear them! :D
Calypso gives me the same feeling antinous gave you lol. But one of my favorite things is in monster he says "I'm the only one whose line I haven't crossed" and Calypso ends up almost pushing him over it
Yeah Calypso also gives me the same vibe as Antinous too, just different ways.. Calypso feels more manipulative to me and Antonious more forceful. And I hadn't even thought about that yet, damn!
I found some story...but it still confuses me! I have to look more into this but damn.. I also have the Athena and Hephaestus statues next to each other. I'll make sure to move them!
@@PompyPieYT Greek Mythology can get confusing and come from different sources, and that nasty story only comes from one source; so maybe we chalk it up to that one writer being non-canon and keep believing Hephaestus is a good guy haha
@PompyPieYT In some writings, it's thought the two of them are counterparts. Hephaestus bringing wisdom and arts to men, and Athena to women. So id like to think he's wise enough to not be vulgar
This was a first impressions so i have a video where i solely focus on the music and another where i react to the animatics. I'll do the same when the Vengeance saga comes out! And the order is right I believe? i listened to them in the order they were in the albums.
I think Calypso is a very complex and beautiful character. Very well written. I love they way they made her look and sound. Here i was just feeling a whole lot for Odysseus. I also feel the way she's being treated compared to Antinious(hope I'm writing that right, but doubt it) is really unfair..

@@NomNommies Calypso being “cursed to fall in love” is 100% all Rick Riordan and isn’t canon to the actual Odyssey
The gods and goddesses have pretty much tries to prevent calypso falling in love they won't let her pick a lover that's what makes her like that
