The boy who drowned was Dimash as a child. He grows up to marry the girl (the woman with the little girl who later is seen giving birth). At the beginning he friend who saved him makes advances on the girl on the beach and she rejects him because she loves Dimash, which is why he starts separating himself out and does not accept the friendship necklace when it is offered. His bitterness leads him down a destructive path and he becomes the dictator. He intentionally targets Dimash's village while Dimash is off fighting against his forces. Dimash returns home to find his daughter dead and his wife gone. This is one of those videos that you need to watch mutliple times because the first time is so jarring that it's easy to miss all of the smaller details.
Dimash worked on this project for three years; it's a passion project of his with a message that is very important to him: no one wins in war. He often talks about how children are affected by war; that never have the decisions of a handful of children led to the death of millions of adults but how often do the decisions of a handful of adults result in the deaths of millions of children. And yes, there is a ton of symbolism in this video, including him drawing attention to all of the world religions. His point is that we are all living under one sky, travelling on the same planet, and we all just want to live!
This is my Dear video, the video that I saw that took me down the rabbit hole and I am not afraid to admit I ugly cried through it four times in a row before I was compelled to go watch every other thing he'd ever done. It's fitting that you would react to this special project of his the day before his 30th birthday! Love from Oregon!

No matter how many times I watch this, I cry. I think most of us do. It's a story very important to Dimash, as he is all about peace, no matter who everyone is. The live version is just as powerful.

И когда в этой войне убили дочь, Димаш решил остановить диктатора, который когда -то спас ему жизнь. Он знал что погибнет, но он принял это решение ради жизни других. Здесь много символизма, я так понимаю, его душа присоединилась к тем, кто бродит по земле в поисках божьего света. Димаш гениальный певец, режиссер, актер. I was just saying that it’s one of those pieces of art that you have to watch several times to really get a feeling for the symbolism and subtleties that are in every scene. Yeah, that’s right. It is I would’ve been waiting for this for weeks. I hope he has an extraordinary 30th birthday. He deserves it. He’s put in so much work and has such amazing talent. As far as im led to believe dimash’s character is the baby grown up at the end.
The baby being born is Dimash’s son who is then seen leading the pilgrimage at the end of different religions from around the world. All different cultures walking together.
Dimash`s performance of his own composition The Story of One Sky live at his concert in Almaty (part 3, from 23:20) is outstanding. Watching the OMV you can get the message of Dimash, watching the video shows the power and beauty of Dimash`s voice. Peace between peoples and countries is a major concern of Dimash. Thinking there’s no way his Daughter is dead without the same fate happening to his Wife. He's got nothing left to lose, so he chooses to sacrifice his life to stop the Piper’s madness.
His Son is born. The symbol is placed upon him for the death of his Mother in labor.
The only time in the video where we See him sing is in the water. The emotion to scream his message clearly‼️

👉 That is the grandiose and impressive result of three years of compositional work by Dimash Qudaibergen.
This clip is not about war, it’s about peace. War here is a means of expressing the contrast of what happens when we lose love for one another. It is about the call to unite, to stop dividing each other along national, social, religious lines in order to preserve life, love, friendship, and the land for our children.
Story: The clip is divided into several parts. One day the friend saves the protagonist when he almost drowns. The three children are friends and their common external symbol is the necklace (gnomon).
Both boys are in love with the girl. But she chooses “Dimash”. The other boy feels hurt.
The pendant is a gnomon, the shadow hand of a sundial, which served as a nautical compass in ancient times. This symbol is upside down on the uniforms. (That's not how it works.)
It's war. The children are grown and the two boys have parted ways. Dimash's childhood friend has become the country's president/general and mercilessly follows his twisted ideology.
As an antagonist (He is the Piper - based on the “Pied Piper of Hamelin”), he carries the idea of a saving war:
“Only war will lead us to peace. Only the strongest can find love in their hearts. You must be strong enough to give freedom to the world. A world where every city, every home is one. We accompany everyone who is ready to start this new life. Anyone who resists has no place with us. I choose freedom. The world is my oyster and I want to give it to you… War is the way to a united people!”
The main character, Dimash, also speaks of unity, of peace, but through the lens of kindness and love.
He's struggling, he's confused, he's in shock, but he has to save his family - his pregnant wife and his young daughter.
When he finally comes home, he is horrified to discover that his entire family has been killed. His wife has disappeared and his little daughter is dead. The loss of his daughter almost drives him crazy.
(Dimash says in a growling voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. - Kazakh proverb)
He wants revenge and an end to the horror. He shoots the general, his childhood friend and former lifesaver... and is killed himself.
The protagonist's wife survives with the help of people who know that she is the one who will give birth to a special child.
The many pilgrims are people of all religions who walk together the arduous path to the light, to a place of hope, truth and peace.
One day, the protagonist's son grew up to be one of their leaders.
The words at the end of the video are from the "Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together" signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb, on February 4, 2019. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting.

My opinion: The whole song is an outcry. Dimash's unmistakable emotionally charged voice draws you into the video. I was totally hypnotized. My heart aches because of the wars and misery in this world. The greed, envy and intolerance of men will wipe them off the face of the earth if they do not come to their senses. Children and women are targeted victims of annihilation and rape in wars. But they are not just victims or mothers. They are half of humanity. Where are they? Why don't the women climb the mountain side by side with the men and head towards the sunrise and a better future? I only see men running mercilessly past a collapsed comrade-in-arms. Nobody helps him. What future can such a humanity await? Will anything ever change?

On September 13, 2022, Dimash performed his new song 'The Story of One Sky' at a concert for the congress participants.
The music video premiered on September 24 at Dimash's meeting with fans in Almaty.

Have you noticed that Dimash is the main solder right from the very beginning of the war scene, when he was walking under the overpass, also when he was shot in the arm, many people miss that?
Dimash has worked very hard for 3 years composing the music for this song, and around 20 days to make this MV. It turned out to be his most valuable MV, in the ideological sense, ever made, a real Masterpiece! I believe that Dimash deserves THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE for his selfless hard work and tireless efforts, not only for this MV, but for trying to bring the world together in love, peace, and harmony and through his many charities. He is a Legend in the making and will go down in History.
This is my breakdown of the story, as I see it:
This mini movie is full of symbolisms, it's the story of 3 youths, and the necklace which was created by the young Dimash and shared with his friends symbolizing lifelong friendship and unity. The boys both loved the same girl, but she loved Dimash, so the other boy grew resentful over time, started a war, using the symbol of the necklace given to him by his friend Dimash, as the crest on his army uniform.
1) Dimash, was the boy drowning at the beginning and at the end.
2) The Piper, is the one who saved Dimash, became the leader, and was killed by Dimash at the end.
3) The young girl, who died in childbirth, became Dimash’s future wife, had two children together; a daughter who was killed by the Piper's army; and the birth of a son who inherited the necklace from his mother…, they were all affected by the war.
“People are the caravan…. Life is the way”: Dimash spoke these words in Kazakh, when he found his daughter dead.
For the symbolic aspects, Dimash is showing the different cultures and religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hindi, etc.), through throat singing, which is called the REQUIEM (mass for the souls of the dead), from different religions. The Pilgrim or (Shepard or a Wise Man) at the end of the video was Dimash’s baby boy, born in his image and grows up to guide the Representatives of different religions and race from different Nations to the light, for a new beginning living together in peace, tolerance, love, and harmony.

Yeah, it was pretty beautiful sad but beautiful piece of art. He really put a lot of effort and passion into this project and I could feel that. Coming from a film backgrounds I’ve been to so many film festivals and this just took me back to those moments where you actually have people that are trying to, say something really deep inside themselves that’s hard to express in words. That’s what I love about film the ability to say something without directly saying it so that every person can have their own experience with it and digest it in the way that they need to and get what they need out of it. But despite the call for peace of all religions with the selfishness of ruling the world, he is slaughtering humanity by using these religions. Dimash, on the other hand, says stop this wrong thinking. And although he is the person who saved his life, to whom he is connected with a friendship necklace, he destroys that person because he massacres humanity. I liked how you tried to piece the story, which on first viewing can be very confusing since it’s so hard to catch all the symbolism Dimash uses (like the compass object he uses for the necklaces-the dictator, Dimash’s savior, closed the hole in his depiction of the piece, implying he had lost his moral compass). And if you miss Dimash as a child smiling adoringly at the young girl, you won’t connect that he married her and they have a young daughter with another on the way. So give yourself credit for understanding that the young kids grew into these adult characters. And the emotions they extract from most listeners are the same as yours. This masterpiece by Dimash will not be appreciated by all, but I hope for those who take Dimash’s message to heart, will somehow help him by making the conscious decision to be nicer to others. (1) The two boys competed for the girl's attention;
(2) The character (who Dimash represents as an adult) created a symbol to confirm the friendship between the three, after being saved by his friend;
(3) Still in the video we see the girl choose "Dimash" and then they get married and have the little girl (who was killed) as a daughter and the mother is pregnant with another boy;
(4) The oldest boy (who saved "Dimash" from drowning) does not accept being abandoned by the girl and becomes a dictator president/general;
(5) Dimash becomes a soldier who decides to return from combat to protect his war refugee family;
(6) Dimash finds his daughter dead and thinks that his wife had also died, so he decides to take revenge on his friend;
(7) He kills the dictator and is killed regretting the violence he committed in life;
(8) Dimash's wife is well received by people of different religions who agree that Dimash's son is someone special;
(9) The wife dies in childbirth and Dimash's son becomes a leader who leads the refugees to a better place of tolerance, respect and acceptance.

yeah, I would like to go back and kind of break down both the lyrics, but I also want to go back and break down the story because I think the story is very compelling and emotional and I want to kind of theorize and break it down so that it’s very easy to understand and you can catch all the symbolism that’s being thrown at you. I think it’s a very, ambitious artsy piece of film and it reminds me of when I used to go to film festivals when I was an actor. At the end, Dimash's character takes revenge for the life of his daughter, just as his second child is born. This child, orphaned, grows up to become the leader guiding his followers (of all faiths) towards the light. And in doing this he fulfils the promise of peace made by his father.
BTW: Dimash's music videos are always thought provoking and have superb production values. For example, Love of Tired Swans, Be With Me, and his recent When I've Got You. Good reaction, though you need to turn your mike up a bit.

The music video for OKAY (a short film set in Stalinist Russia) and Qairan Elim (Dimash's reaction to the pandemic in Kazakhstan, after losing two mentors) also carry powerful emotional messages.
Thank you so much for your genuine reaction! ❤ So the taller, fairer boy turns into the dictator while the shorter darker boy who nearly drowned is the Dimash character. The little girl becomes the woman who gives birth. It is assumed that Dimash and the girl get married and have the little girl who got killed, thus Dimash’s howls of despair and his decision to stop the killing by killing, knowing full well he will not survive it. The other scene depicts the truth seekers throughout history, including people from all major religions. You recognized the Christians, cross, bell, Jesus figure; but also represented are the Muslims (Qur’an, ihram), the Jews (shofar, tallin), the Buddhists (red robes, om chant), and possibly others I could not identify. When they appeared, we hear Dimash’s voice saying in Qazaq something like “we are all travelers in life “. The new baby signifies the advent of a new age. Some think that the final pilgrim Dimash is the grown baby, but I do not agree since it makes no sense the travelers would wear the same clothes for at least 20 years waiting for him. To me, it means that Dimash has become also a seeker of truth and leads the others towards the light.
Other than the main story line, there are many symbols, allusions, and references. The necklace is a gnomon, a piece from a sun dial but also from a mariner’s compass, so it symbolizes the tool to help one find one’s way in life. When the dictator converts it into his regime’s symbol, he removes the hole from it, meaning that it no longer can help find the way. The burning sign of Waldenberg is a clear reference to the town of Waldenburg, where Hitler took his last stand in WWII, and which was completely annihilated by the US forces. It represents the loss of innocent lives in conflicts, regardless of which side does the killing. In the lyrics, the Piper is alluding to the folk tale of The Pied Piper of Hamelin who eventually led the children away and presumably to their deaths by simple playing Hu’s pipe. This directly comments on the people who blindly follow the dictator without thinking whether they are destroying themselves when doing so. Also in the lyrics, “we are past the moment of Imagine “ refers to John Lennon’s peace song asking us to imagine a world at peace. Dimash’s message is that we are past imagining. We need to act to stop wars. The final message is actually an excerpt from the Document on Human Fraternity co signed by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al Tayeb in 2019.

Congrats on the reaction! Well, some considerations:
(1) Dimash composed the song and participated in the arrangement, in addition to acting in the mini-film. The lyrics of the song and Russian poet Lilia Vinogradova and the video direction by Alina Veripya!
(2) The artifact that the boy found in the trunk and that was turned into necklaces is a "gnomon", a needle for a sundial (a rustic device for keeping time);
(3) The name "Piper" (piper, or piper) is known as a synonym for "dictator", "despot": This originates from the tale of the "Pied Piper of Hamelin" (folk tale rewritten by the Brothers Grim), where a piper was hired to deal with the rat infestation of the city of Hamelin (Germany, 1284). After hypnotizing the rats with his magic flute and drowning them in the Weser, the artist went to collect the amount owed (one coin per head) and was not paid (they alleged that he did not present the "heads" of the rats). He then hypnotized one hundred and thirty children from the city of Hamelin and locked them in a cave. Yeah, well, the "pied piper" (also called "ratcatcher") has become synonymous with the tyrant who uses a mesmerizing speech and leads to death!
(4) The term "Imagine" refers to the song of the same name by John Lennon;
(5) The final text is part of the document generated at the 2019 Congress of World Religious Leaders and the music presented at the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, held in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan) on 14/09/2022 and was attended by of Pope Francis, representing the Catholic Church and who presented Dimash, on the occasion, with a medal of gratitude.
Oh, that explains the piper meaning. I just thought of that as a follower like the old story of the Pied Piper. I did not know that that is a synonym for dictator. That makes so much sense now I thought it was talking about the followers not the one whowas brainwashing the people to follow them. So I had it backwards thank you for explaining that that makes a lot more sense now. I also appreciate the reference to John Lennon and the song imagine that’s awesome. I love that song so much. Pra vc entender melhor esse vídeo, acredito que vc deva assistir ao discurso dele no Fórum da Paz da Ásia Central, onde ele diante de diolomatas sobre sua filosofia de Paz entre todas as culturas e tolerância religiosa, é um discurso lindo... lembrando que o Dimash nasceu no começo 1994 e o Cazaquistão conseguiu sua independência da União Soviética pouquíssimo tempo antes, em dezembro de 1991 (inclusive a segunda língua oficial é o russo). Basta pesquisar um pouquinho pra descobrir como todo o ecossistema do Cazaquistão sofreu sendo local de testes para bombas nucleares da Antiga União Soviética, inclusive um dos maiores lagos do mundo ficava no Cazaquistão e foi totalmente drenado pelos russos para irrigação, foi triste, muitas espécies de peixes perdidas... enfim, o país sabe as consequências de uma Guerra, a população é totalmente contra armamento bélico, Dimash é filho de dois artistas que viveram esse contexto, então foi criado em um período de conscientização sobre o quão inútil e devastador é uma guerra. Além disso, quando vc reagir a Samaltau, a letra conta a história de soldados cazaques que foram arrancados de sua terra, para lutar na Primeira Guerra Mundial, é uma música absolutamente linda. Outra coisa que vale mencionar é o fato de que lá metade da população é de religião islâmica e a outra metade são católicos e ainda existem muitas richas religiosas, então é outra coisa que o Dimash cresceu vendo... um artista é fruto do contexto em que vive, e o Dimash é um espelho dos desejos mais profundos do povo cazaque, não é atoa que hoje ele é embaixador da ONU, ele é considerado Tesouro Nacional do Cazaquistão, já ganhou medalhas de honra pela sua influência e ações, ganhou um prêmio análogo ao NOBEL da Paz, quando ele visita um país sempre é convidado para se reunir com as autoridades mais importantes (inclusive na viagem do último show que aconteceu Budapeste no dia 04 de maio, ele se reuniu com o Vice-presidente da Hungria)...

I’ve had some really good explanations in the comments here already, though I feel I have a really good grasp on the meaning of everything in the video, but I’d always like to hear more and other opinions on it. That’s really what I look into for films and stuff like that is Theorizing and breaking down what the intent was behind subtle symbolisms, and things of that nature, it really makes me excited to be able to put those things together and even create my own theories or even just what they mean to me because I think that’s the beauty of film and music is that we can all listen to the same thing and come away with a different perspective depending on how we’ve lived our life and what we understand and things like that so I think it’s amazing And this is just a masterful work of arts. Не перестаёт удивлять изысканная подлость русских тварей, состоящая в том, что после первого прилёта они стреляют в то же самое место, но когда туда уже прибыли спасатели, медики, пожарные. В результате ещё больше убитых, в т.ч. спасателей и медиков. Вчерашний день и эта ночь также сопровождалась бесконечными воздушными тревогами и ракетными обстрелами.
