Thanks for the video! I'm going to try growing some this year.
GreenEyedFlower no problem! It is a gorgeous plant!
Very informative and interesting video. Thank you.
Janine Maskell, you are very welcome. Thank you!
Probably taste better with a little salt, butter, and sugar. - like oatmeal. I'm planting Amaranth and Sorghum this coming season. I"m in S.C. so it should grow well. I appreciate the video. Thanks.
You got it, Winston. Thanks for visiting!
I think it would be "planty" instead of gamey
Word is born
Lol great video! Its our first year of growing Amaranth, I was just searching for some more knowledge on the matter and came across your video. Some people let them dry in the garden and harvest, but you cut them off and let them dry in the house? Im afraid to leave them outside and have the wind take the seeds..so how do i know when its time to cut them?
I enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Appreciated! I was essentially converting articles to video format. There are tons of articles, so maybe I’ll make more videos!
@@pullupyourplants Thanks. As a test, I grew a little Amaranth and Sorghum last year. Plan to do some more this year. I'm from S.C., zone 8a. Seemed to work well.
I have a bumper crop of amaranth plants 5 ft + taller l have never harvested l will this year you made it sound easy to harvest.
It was pretty easy. It just takes a little time.
Hi! Thanks for the video. When did you harvest the plant? I’ve read “after the first frost.” Is that what you did? Thanks!
Sarahann Kolder I actually harvested them a bit before the first frost.
I like you sir 😂 Im getting ready to harvest my first amaranth crop and I have a 5 month old. Relatable.
Thanks, Emily. Let me know how it goes.
I misspelled “revelation!” Dang!!!!
Do what I do, blame it on spell-check. : )
just curious why you put the seeds in a blender?? Doesn't that cut the seeds up???? I just am growing now and I just learned the seeds do not turn dark or black so hard to tell when seeds are ripe.
Diana Albers Hey! The seeds are small and light enough to not get cut up. The impact and agitation is enough to winnow the seeds off of the flowers. You could probably rub the flowers in between your hands too I guess. Also, try blowing off the seeds where you want them to grow. I had a whole bunch grow in the spot that I did this outside. Are you doing this soon?
@@pullupyourplants no not doing yet maybe soon, I have done others by rubbing with them in a steel mesh colander/strainer that has worked well for me.... thanks for the reply!
How come your seeds is look lighter color. Mine, the flowers look the same but it pure black color, not sure it edible or not.
It’s probably just variety. Mine were grown from seeds purchased from Baker Creek. The wild amaranth have glossy black seeds, and those are edible. If you are definitely growing amaranth, the seeds are edible.
Oh ok. Thank you.
can you make bread out of them?
Hey! That’s not a bad idea.I’m pretty sure you can
Doing this today! Doesn’t the blender break the seed open?
You can always put them a bag and massage the bag etc, but I found the seeds were small enough to not get damaged to a great degree.
What USDA zone are you in?
Zsa Zsa Umbra I am in zone 5b
@@pullupyourplants awesome. I'm in 6a, so now I know if you are growing it, I can too!
