Glad I ran across this video. I have an 06 meanstreak 1600 and glad I checked it (was in the same spot as shown in the video). It had bits and pieces in the screen. Torque specs per my manual for the screen bolt was 15 lbs but I didnt have enough space to get my torque wrench in there with the 17 mm socket.
Earlier in the video you mentioned the solid part of the filter should be facing you but when you installed it you had it reversed. Which way is correct?
I just learned of this oil intake screen myself and now I'm wondering how the screen goes back inside!! And when you re-install that flat washer! Another video showed the guy putting it in after the spring. Hmmm...!! Anyways...thank you for the video and I can't wait to get my '03 1500 Classic running and do my first oil change!!!
Incorrectly installed Oil Screen! The oil Screen on Vulcan 900 should be inserted the other way around. Please check Service Manual parts 7. On the 7-4 Engine Lubricating System Oil Flow Chart it is clearly shown that the mash part should go in first in the depth of the chamber and not in the spring.
I LIKED THE VID. good vid.questions. i dont have the sam eclearance on the 900 as you do. my frame is one inch in front of the nut, how did you get the nut to be lower than the frame for easy access?2. does oil come out alot when removing bolt? 3. how often to change? thank you!
Nice to know you found debris in it, that tells me it probably does it's job, what confuses me is how it works, this is the first video that I've found that points out the holes in the 'body' of the assembly. Must be that those holes that look to be about 9mm on the body' , draw in fluid and then particles get trapped in the screen. If that is the case, I wonder why that bolt with inlets isn't oriented to the open end of the screen as opposed to the closed end.... :?:
Is this put in backwards or correctly ? I've seen this done 10 times now, five were put in one direction and five the opposite. Anyone have a pdf or shot of the factory manual for 2007 1600?
@@metaltwister66 THANKS, you know of any videos to DIY on how to adjust valves on vulcan 900 and install pulley kit to reduce 5th gear highway shudder? thanks!
Awesome, wasn't aware of that screen either, nice quick lesson right there!
Thank you sir I had no idea it was their

@Dan Thanks, yeah, I think I noticed that
between my manual and how it came out
of the block.
Where is this on the 1700? I hear it's not in this location at all and it's very hard to get to.
Thank you, needed to know how it went back lol appreciate you.
question, if you have already did a new oil change, can you still clean that W/o losing the new oil from coming out?
Yes. It will not drain oil from engine.
Great video thanks. Now i know where mine is.
Does the 2003 1600 classic have one?
On the 2003 1600 Classic, it's on the RIGHT side right next to the oil drain plug and oil filter cap.
@@hugoortega195 Negative, its on the left. I just changed it Saturday.
Thanks a lot!👍
wait, spring and screen are in the vulcan 900, what years?

What abot valve clearence adjustmentment?? Every 30k on the vulcan, suggested maintence.
Is there a screen on a vulcan vn2000?
Juan Mancha yes
I cannot find it if so, vn2000 is different.
How often does this actually need to be done?
every 10k miles is a good measure.
Manual calls for cleaning the filter every other oil change.
No filter inside my 900 classic.
Is this really necessary?
Manual calls for cleaning the screen every other oil change.
If it wasn’t necessary why would it be made this way?
