Leaving Packwood I meet up with a group from California I talked to at the Mosko Moto Bates Mototel and we link up for a bit. Strength in numbers and teamwork makes the dream work!
Hello!
I'm Brady, AKA Mountainman, I've been a soldier, ski bum, police officer, government worker, photographer, and all around nomad. Now I travel on my motorcycle, make videos, and share them with the world. Along the way I do dumb stuff off road, camp, fly drones, take pictures, learn about culture and history and do my best to take you with me.
In early 2022 I set off on my motorcycle Yennefer (2021 Tenere 700) for an adventure with no set destination or timeline. Come along with me and let’s see what will happen as I try to ride until I can't.
Bike: Yamaha Tenere 700
Luggage: Kriega OS and Enduristan 4H
Navigation: Carpe Iter Tablet and Drive Mode Dashboard 2
Cameras: Sony A7C, GoPro Hero 8, GoPro Max, GoPro Hero 7, GoPro Session 5, Skydio 2
Gear: Adventure Spec Jacket/Pants/Base Layers, Alpinestars Toucan boots, Arai XD4, Revit gloves.

That swing music is the bee’s knee’s man. 😂
Bravo! riding those fully loaded machines up Clemens mountain! I ride that section into Ellensburg a couple times a year I live in Enumclaw Wa. and do a loop thru the Cascades and then back home.. I ride a KTM 1090 with just enough gear to repair flat tires so nothing like you all are hauling. That hump up Clemens mnt. has no warnings in the WABDR site but, just so you know if you can get up it.. Baby head hill that everyone knows about IMO is easier to ride. Your videos are great just discovered them and subscribed!
Man, that seemed a lot rockier than I remember from other vids! Also a good reminder why I will never ride a big GS on a BDR 😆
I used to own a GSA and loved it, but always worried about what would happen if I went down off-road. 😢
I like your narration and how you display the route taken at video end. Also, the spontaneous reactions to road hazards/challenges really keep things lively! Thanks for posting the great videos.
I just retired, got the bike i wanted late this fall, put 107 miles on her and well pretty much snowed in here. Your videos and rides are great. 2023 will be the start of some great BDR, TAT adventures.
We can relate, here in Leavenworth. Once the "monsoon" arrives, the bikes are in their stables for the duration!
I'm doing WABDR early summer 2023. Thanks for creating content on this route.
Cleman mountain is the most difficult thing I have ever been on with a motorcycle. I made it right up to about where you crashed on a crf250l, saw that the rock there was totally across the trail, and decided to bail. Ended up dropping the bike turning it around on that stuff. I then had to go down the whole thing to meet up with my buddy who had crashed his 1200gs near the bottom. We ended up taking the pavement to Wenas. Just getting a downed bike up and turned around on that hill is difficult !
I think that is Cleman Mt you climbed. Not too much issue going up that on my KTM 690 but certainly challenging on bigger bikes. Friend of mine burned up his Royal Enfield Himalayan clutch on that hill. Section 2 might be the most challenging of the WABDR. Thanks for sharing👍
Yep it's cleman, we named it baby head hill jr.
Also, I know I asked in a previous vid about your build out video…I scrolled thru your vids and couldn’t find it. Could ya point me in the right direction? Thanks! Good vid. Decent little spill ya had there too.
“I’m gonna have a wet dream tonight about how light this bike was.” Hahahaha

I've had a dream to ride the WABDR on my T7. I know I will bypass Babyhead hill, but now I'm thinking I might bypass more of the Nile to Ellensburg section after seeing the level of difficulty of the other rock strewn hill you and the group went up. I suspect the only way to bypass it is an all highway route via HWY 12 into Yakima then up Hwy 823/821, which is much more scenic than I-82
Just did that section (going south) with the wife. The rocks are just as bad, if not worse, coming up the other side. Map just says "dirt road". WRONG. There was some equipment that came off of somebodies bike on the section that you guys turned around on. Had to just ride by it hoping not to crash. Could not stop.
Many vloggers are calling that hill on Clemmens Mtn. baby head hill in their videos so kudos that you got it right. Went down that with a jeep once, the axles locked, in low range and it was scarry with the rocks rolling under the wheels. It must be a bitch on a big bike.
It's work for sure. Given the experience level of the group the actual baby head hill would have been a bad idea.
I dropped it right where brian did on those first baby heads - and another guy i know dropped it in that same spot too... That is a rocky piece of trail.
But that last hill i think you skipped with the real babyhead hill is the worst of it - the climb is rocky and washed out before you get to the hardest bit, but it's a real fun trail on smaller bikes.
We went around the real baby head hill.
@@MeerkatADV Yeah, probably good call - getting to that hill is a challenging ride and then getting up it is even harder...
@@mattbillenstein Yeah the more inexperienced guys weren't having it. We would have been pushing bikes up that hill.
@@MeerkatADV Well do ride it sometime if you get back in the area - it's not to be missed! I've done that section a couple times now - really rocky, but really fun.
Hi, What amp holder are you using with the carpe , and are you using some more "Anti-vobbels" gear for the 12mm pin ? Thx in adv from sweden :)
Using Carpe Iters holder and a GPS mount from Rally Raid. I have the Camel ADV anti wobble brace.
@@MeerkatADV Hello again.
Guess it was this one?
Billet Multi-Mount for 12mm
One question, this is made to screw from the front, and Carpe is from the back, how did you manage to get your screw, did you have to drill and redo the holes?
@alcon1427 yes that's the mount, no I did not have to redrill anything. If I remember correctly I just took the windshield off and that gave me enough clearance to access the bolts to tighten it down.
I'm so confused, thanks for your answers 🙂
that's the "alternate" to Babyhead???
Yeah, baby head hill is further up, along with the go around. This is Cleaman mtn and leads up to babyhead.
@@MeerkatADV The geology of that entire section is a jumble of different lavas, alluvial junk, and lahars from the ghost volcanoes that were in the area (3 other volcanoes the size of Rainier, right close by, but gone now), then add the uplifting and folding that formed those massive ridges. It's a real mess!
The rocky hill that gave everyone trouble, I don't believe this is on the bypass route around Babyhead, this appears to be on the main route long before the section with Babyhead hill or the bypass to skip Babyhead Hill. As near as I can figure, the only way to bypass it is to take an all highway route to from Nile Ellensburg.
Hey meerkat, what kinda seat do you have? That thing looks comfy!
Sargents
@@MeerkatADV thanks!
it's bad???? Where's your sence of adventure?
I was thinking of the less experienced riders in the group
@@MeerkatADV at least you're out there doing it..... florida sucks for adventure riding, unless you liked paved roads.
@@mikedenton6485 Yeah, can't say I'm too interested in exploring Florida for ADV riding.
@@MeerkatADV trust me, you don't want to.
