Glad to see you persevere through the multiple breaks. Very inspirational! I had guessed you were trying to save it for a bike conversion or something similar due to the visual damage of the pinion gear. Custom motor controllers are added when motors are converted to drive a bicycle. Instead of pulsing on/off or changing the voltage, controllers use pulse width modulation to measure and control RPM (like a 4 wire computer fan). The bushings also need to be replaced with ball bearings. Anything is possible. You obviously don't give up easy or at all, I'm sure you will prove it either way if you want. Thanks for the vid!
You had me laughing so hard because I imagined you starting to drool towards the end from all the sparks. Perhaps using a switch would save you from the shocks?
I work as a starter rebuilder for six-year, you need heavy wire and work thru the solenoid, the starter motor is very powerful you must tight in wise .
Use a small screw driver to lift the brush spring out of the way and push the brush through, when you release the spring it will rest on the side of the brush during assembly then when you push the brush in the spring will slip behind the brush like they do on the assembly line. I do rebuilds all the time and watch videos like this to help others with easier techniques, tips and tricks, because I don’t have the patients to make videos myself, recording them is fine but editing is where I lose patients.
once I dealt with a situation like this, my motor was from a stacker hydraulic, the rotor and stator of my motor looked exactly like yours. The only difference was that my motor had faulty brushes and the brushes were more expensive than the motor itself
Starter motors have a very high torque and also run at a high rpm. To use it for a winch you have to use a step down gearing to reduce the rpm and increase the torque to higher levels. Regards, Engineer from India.
You forgot all purpose high temperature bearing grease on the ball bearing during reassembly so you will have unnecessary binding, friction, wear and tear.
Good facial expression @ 20:25. Very interesting project. Don't think 200 amps is just for show. Lol It has to move a crank and pistons until the engine starts. I would imagine than would need some amperage. Thanks for your efforts and sharing 👍🇬🇧
That was a good try with the starter motor I have one which I want to build a plastic shredder is it a good idea to use continuous and also please show how you connect the wires to the battery and the starter clearly for me to connect on your second repair connection much appreciated asap please
change the outer stator windings to neodymium magnets ( need to work out number to use and polarity might be a bit of a challenge), and you would have a hell of a powerful dc motor
..Kool bro...I was wondering if I could repurpose starter motors to run e bike's.. or mybe a racing cart for at least 3 minutes b4 a battery recharge session stints... cautious on overheating components.. safety 1st
Honestly, this was a treat to watch you go ALL the way through fixing a beat starter motor. Need to make a backyard 'mover' and wanted to see if a cheap starter might be similar to an alternator-based one. As you surmised, efficiency-wise its not worth it, and longevity-wise as well. Subbed because you go the extra mile, and vids are not full of bs and drama and crazy music. Keep up the good work!
I am not an electrical engineer, but out of interest used a 1000w 48v pmdc motor as DC generator connected to a 35cc petrol motor with pulleys and belt. It runs and shows volts 48 ro 60v, but when i connect any load like a bulb or another car window dc motor to output terminals it doesn't run the load and instead pmdc motor pulls and slows down the petrol motor. Any idea what my mistake is and how to fix it. Thank you in advance.
Great video and showing all the facts and falts I lurned so much !! I watched the spark and your reaction 3 times it's so funny 😆 I laughed so hard my sides hurt 🤣 😂20.08 your reaction 🤣 is the best part after watching for so long it was perfect for that to happen! Made it the best video of starter repair I've ever seen and lurned ever part of a starter thank you ser !!!!

I suppose if you can DIY and have the time this is a pretty good approach, however, on a personal note I think I would have just turned in the core and got a new one
Understood, however if he had done that everyone would have missed out on all the potential failure modes starters can have, and more importantly, why. This was great for the learning aspect, and the spark startles of course.
The only thing about starters when you put the back together you need to put a dab of grease on the bushings and on the ball in the back and the that's where the gear is and a little on the solenoid but your video was funny watching you when you hooked it up but understandable if you've never done it before
is there posibility that thing act as dynamotor useing just commitator ore rewinding that thing? I did see some starter selenoids say they have hold in wire and push in wire why do they do that? Any other normal selenoids have just 1 wire pound??

Sir.. u forget connect switch selonoid.. sir just connect only power ... 😀😀 N sir so nervous with spark . Hahahaa but... Awesome always 👍👍👍👍👍
I think you should use a remote start switch between battery and starter its a hand held push button with negative and positive leads .

A meter like that wont measure below 1 ohm propperly because the test leads will be half the resistance and they were also never calibrated for that.
Btw I respect you. You do good work.

Will it work as generator or Dynamo when I rotate is shaft
Ur explanation is best yr keep it yr
Tu peux même faire un générateur avec çe démarreur après si tu veux, merci, bonne vidéo
please I have qustion : can I transfering a car starter to dinamo or a wing electrical sours and how
The shaft is spiraled so the gears mesh properly
Well done 👍
Thank you 👍
You make good videos👍
it’s connect to the engine flywell it starts the engines when the engines started it’s switch it’s self off maybe lm right or worng a gust and what do things
the shaft needs the helical gears in case the starter and the flywheel teeth are not perfectly aligned when you need to start
And to disengage it from the flywheel after it's started. Just looking at it kind of explains itself and why it needs to be helical. Good stuff.
Super 👍
100-200 Amps in India In America cars use 400-4000 amps (my car uses 600 amps and diesel pickup trucks use 4k and semi trucks here use 10,000amps
