- My first video stopped playing due to a playback issue, so I'm re-uploading it! 💕 My twin sister, Allie Fink, is a Vice President at a Manhattan-based investment management firm where she trades corporate debt. Since we overlapped during a recent week at our parents' house, I have watched her work for hours on end, staring at three computer monitors with crazy numbers and intricate charts that I could never understand. Just looking at it made my head spin. After a few days of watching her work diligently, I was intrigued and figured...why not give it a try?
NOTE: I wasn't actually able to do much of her work. We didn't feel it was appropriate for me to listen in on her company's phone calls, so I just sat nearby studying articles about the stock market while she handled everything. We basically treated the day like one giant lesson plan. I even took a quiz at the end (spoiler: I failed).
To backtrack a bit, our jobs couldn’t be more different. To begin with, her morning routine starts WAY earlier than my typical morning routine...at 6:45AM! We did our skincare routines together, got into our working-from-home outfits (leggings and comfy DIY tie-dye sweatshirts), and left her bedroom for our morning commute down the stairs to the kitchen.
We filled up our water bottles and left the kitchen WITHOUT our morning coffee…how was I supposed to function without an immediate dose of caffeine?! The first lesson of the day was learned: Allie likes to get to her desk as quickly as possible to clock-in. Since I normally work from home, and for myself, I never feel that rush to log into work so quickly after waking up! Even when I worked at Refinery29, I didn't wake up that early.
When you look at Allie’s working-from-home set-up, it's easy to get a bit overwhelmed. There's the laptop computer, the Bloomberg keyboard and two ginormous monitors. At her actual office, she works with SIX (6) monitors at her desk - can you imagine????? Throughout the day, Allie walked me through what she actually does as a corporate debt trader. She also shared some insights about how she was making her way up the corporate ladder as a female in a highly male-dominate industry.
By the end of the day, she had traded millions of dollars of loans…and to be frank, it wasn’t all that exciting. BUT, what made the entire experience worthwhile was getting a front-row seat and being able to watch my twin sister crush it at work.
I believe that new experiences are what make us better, more evolved & educated humans…and this experience did just that. Under normal circumstances, I couldn’t just waltz into her office with my camera equipment and film this video, but, because of this unique working-from-home time period, I was able to truly experience a day in the life of my twin sister!

We need Allie to do an "Investing for Dummies" or "401(K) Investing for Millennials" video. Same-my eyes glaze over trying to figure all of this stuff out. But, it's something I wish I could get better at!

I think your sisters job is amazing. But I was more interested in the whole twin dynamic of being opposite. You seem to be more artistic and she seems more mathematical and science oriented. It kinda seemed left vs right brained. Loved how you included info on what path you could take to get there though... awesome video!

I identified soo much with you throughout the video. I’m a fashion designer and my husband is a corporate lawyer so when he starts going through contracts and legal stuff w me to explain what he does I tend to space out halfway because it’s so overwhelming to a creative mind like mine lol. Also I’ve always romanticized office jobs and this video definitely made me realize why I didn’t go that way Allie has all my respect and admiration but I got tired by watching a 20 minute summary of her day phew

I love seeing examples of women succeeding in traditionally male-dominated industries, but I wish you had addressed the role that privilege plays in getting there. Allie was able to take economics at her high school. Guessing from the house, you probably grew up pretty comfortably and with a lot of advantages. It would have been nice if it had been acknowledged that succeeding in the finance industry isn't just about hard work and long hours.

Oh man, I'm 100% Lucie and my sister is Allie. Coincidentally enough, I now work in my sister's industry because the creative industry is just too unstable if you're an average media producer in Australia rn. I really miss being creative, though! I loved this video. As someone who had finance as bachelor's major and then later switched to marketing for my masters major, this video was a great reminder that my decision to switch was correct 🤣.. Even though I could understand all the jargon I still got tired just watching her. Bravo to her. She's so smart. May she always find happiness n joy and good money in her whatever her passion is.

This was such a good video....I always wonder what exactly some of these jobs look like and this was a nice glimpse into. Allie is impressive to be sure. Id be interested also in knowing how she learned this job. Because it is pretty complicated Im curious to know how a new college grad learns this once they are hired. Is their an extensive training period with an on the job mentor etc.
