    Loved the thoughts on the game. I didn't want to be interested, but it is looking like a must get for me. And I enjoyed the books too so it will be fun to see how the different characters are used.

    I totally agree. Bought this game, and love it very much. I read the book during 2 days and it fits very good to the game. There is no other game like this. Easy to learn but interesting in every round. I love the automa-mode.

    That review was beautifully shot without distracting from the content. Awesome job. Your highlights of the game match the points that attract me to it. My family and I enjoy deck builders, engine builders and all kind of card games. It feels like the hand curation and constantly evolving objectives of this one will make it something unique in my collection; and an engaging play experience to boot. Looking forward to it. I'm not sold on the Collector's edition being a must either, though it's hard to resist shiny stuff...

      Thank you! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the visuals and the thoughts behind red rising! I absolutely think it's worth it, especially if you already enjoy hand curation and constantly changing objectives! Hahah the collector's edition was DEFINITELY hard to steer away from for me too....but i think in this case, the cards themselves already make the game!

    Excellent video! I’m a big Stonemaier Games fan. My only concern with this game is that the high component quality may make it over-priced for what is basically a hand-management card game. We’ll see when pre-orders open up next month.

    • @TimChuon
      @TimChuon  3 роки тому

      Thank you! I definitely am too! I don’t think the component quality will be too high for the retail at least (i feel like the most ‘premium’ component is the helium tray) and thus less costs, but I am interested in seeing what they come up with as well

    I was hesitant to buy this game because of its apparent simplicity, but after watching a few videos, it seems that the volume and uniqueness of the cards allowed for enough complexity and replayablitiy, that I opted to get it. Also, I'm also hoping that Jaime comes out with some expansions that will add some more depth to the game and enhance the theme to more closely mirror the books. Fingers crossed.

    Great video! Regarding your comment about card draw: did you ever have any games where there was a noticeable imbalance between players' final hands (e.g. Player 1 ended the game with 5 cards and Player 2 ended the game with 7+), or would you say in a given game it's equally hard/easy for all players to change hand size?
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @TimChuon
      @TimChuon  3 роки тому +1

      hmmm that's a fantastic question nigel! I actually did pay pretty close attention to ending hands of cards across all of our games (i always tried to reach 7) and i would say that in a given game, it was pretty equal. We were always around 1-2 cards apart, and we play very differently (strategy-wise) so i think they're pretty balanced in that sense!

    Some people have complained that they think if you are last player most times it will be better to go ahead and grab the Sovern token. Do you see it that way? I don't think so but haven't played.

    • @TimChuon
      @TimChuon  3 роки тому +2

      Hmmm that’s a great point! From all of our plays...I don’t always find that to be true! You’ll have cards worth way more than the 10 pts given by a sovereign, your house power activated by the sovereign token may not always be worth it for your final decision (ex-house Diana gives you a cube to put on the institute. If you’re already in last place, you’ll get only 1 point for each cube. Gaining the sovereign token (10 pts) + your house power (1 pt for one cube) + a 9 point card you picked up =20 pts. However, if you were to pick up a card in Mars thats a raw 25 points + 3 pts for a helium token = 28 pts) bottom line, I’ve only seen the sovereign token chosen once in a final action out of many many plays. It’s highly variable and dependent on your situation! Hope that helps!

      @@TimChuon just finished watching for the second time. Great production. That is exactly how I see it but since I haven't played it wanted to see a different point of view. I can see it being stronger in a two player game (because you are also taking 10 away from the other opponent) but I think you can get 20 pts and possibly more from quite a few cards. Thanks!

    Love the cinematic.
    Question - how is it at different player counts? We generally play at two, and only occasionally at larger counts, especially nowadays.

    • @TimChuon
      @TimChuon  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! 2 is great-it’s an easy pick-up and play! I think it’s more fun at 3 because you have more options to pick on for certain cards (loan shark card causing another player to give you 2 helium tokens, taking resources from each other etc.), BUT there is more wait time for sure since everyone is taking extra time to understand and calculate opportunities of each card; 4 players might be the maximum I’d want to try for red rising though -I think it’d be way too long of a wait at 6 players!

    So this is just basically just Fantasy Realms?

    • @TimChuon
      @TimChuon  3 роки тому +1

      So I haven’t played fantasy realms, but from a quick read-over, they’re definitely very similar! they might differ in the card themes, card interactions, and all of the different resources you’re gathering; I’d have to play FR to find out for sure!

    • @AaronWood
      @AaronWood 3 роки тому

      @@TimChuon I got a reply from Jayme directly on BGG saying that FR was a HUGE inspiration for this. (and that yes, there were some additional mechanics, but at the core it's the same)
      I guess other people on the forums have been talking about how transparent they were with this fact.
      I'm pretty wary. I mean, it's like 75% of the same game. I know other games come along and improve on older ones all the time, but this one's a little too much of a swipe, imo.

    • @chuckm1961
      @chuckm1961 3 роки тому +1

      @@AaronWood except that fantasy realms is just cards. Nothing else. This game introduces card columns, and bonuses on areas of the board.
      And except that Red rising appears to favor more consistent optimal scoring of cards, whereas fantasy realms has a greater tendency for cards that are more “all or nothing”.
      And except for the fact that the scoring in fantasy realms is nothing but the cards, and the scoring in red rising has other elements.
      And except for the fact that every card in red rising is unique. Which is not true in fantasy realms.
      But sure, they are pretty much the same game.
      The rules to red rising literally mention the huge inspiration from fantasy realms.
      A game has similarities to another game, and therefore you don’t want to buy it because…? Because it has some similarities to another game? I don’t follow.
      I own fantasy realms. I don’t think I will be arrested for plagiarism for buying red rising.

      And yes, it's definitely the core mechanics of Fantasy Realms with some others tacked on.
      I'd say it's 75% FR with 25% other mechanics added.
