The only citrus I currently own came up from seed. It’s from a wild calamondin I found loaded with fruit. I ate the fruit and tossed the seeds in my yard. The tree shows no signs of citrus greening, and even leaf miners are completely avoiding it. The leaves are a very deep green. It grows astoundingly fast. It’s only a couple of years old and has reached up to the roof already. I have it mainly just so the swallowtail caterpillars can occasionally feed on some of its leaves.
Another fantastic video Paul, excellent information from Katherine I will definitely try the traps. I have a Sugarbelle in 15 gallon and the only fight I have is leaf miners however Pyrethrin is working so far, to acidify the soil for my Sugarbelle and mango trees I use Epsoma soil acidifier.
Looking for those product links she was going to share. Lemons And limes in pots is what I'm after. They die on me in two or three years when I plant them in the ground
The problem with sticky traps is lizards get in them as well. I took them out when I saw a lizard stuck in one. I saved the lizard's life and threw away all the sticky traps.
I'm also growing a Sugar Belle in container here in Miami. Haven't had any problems with bugs, even though the lime tree next to it has leaf miners I'm trying to take out with neem oil. The Sugar Belle is a very thirsty tree, it dries out the ten gallon container very quick.
So am I but the leaf miners are killing me. The only thing I've found to work is Imidacloprid but you have to use it every few months. I'm not sure you can do that if you want to eat the fruit.
@@onortosu Pyrethrin is actually just a plant toxin, you could also switch the the pheromone traps mentioned in the video, miners usually go after the new growth so when you see the tree about to push you apply the trap or use the spray. I usually also clip off the affected leaves when I can and burn or throw them in my trash bags and tie them so when they emerge they die.
@@ricardo1522 I am gonna try spinosad pesticide (Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew) since it can be sprayed on organic produce. I will still spray the neem oil and hope that the leaf holds it long enough to absorb into the leaf.
@@crackyflipside nice, just be carful with neem as it can burn the leaves if mixed too strong or applied in direct sun, it can also block the pores on the leaves.
I just googled sugar belle. She isn't lying the usda says that it handles the HLB. I'd like to see a home owners tree that isn't super taken care of and see how it's doing.
All grafted citrus I’ve purchased here in Florida get so very ugly from leaf minors, and quickly end up with blotchy leaves, cracking bark, die back, etc.

She is such a sweet lady I love jack and Beanstock
Bobby saying “you’re a grown man and you’re growing citrus?” caught me off guard 🤣
I’ve been to Jack and the bean stalk and bought a few trees from them. They’re awesome and will definitely go back.

This nursery started my fruit tree journey ❤
I absolutely love this lady. The same day that you guys filmed this I bought a 25 gallon sumo orange, a limequat, and a elephant apple
The nursery is amazing and the people who own it are wonderful
Oh man they have Sumo orange trees when those came out 4-5 years ago best orange I've ever had
Love that place, I’m always gong there and the lady’s are super sweet.

Great video with a beautiful lady!

The copper wire helps with snails.
“You’re a grown man and you’re growing citrus” 😂
Sugarbelle is one of the most delicious along with shiranui!

Can you please add the link for the for the leaf miner trap?

Neem will not work unfortunately, the only thing that works so far is Pyrethrin.

Question: Can you grow citrus in Gainesville, FL area? How about Ocala or Dade City area? Thank you. You've got a great program.
I grow circus in Alabama lemons, kumquats, grapes fruits, navel oranges, and satsumas I have to protect in winter from frost and freeze. Zone 8b
i have a dancy tangerine so i’m assuming that will pollinate my honeybelle
What is the fertilizer she talked about? ?Harrells 18-6-12

She had granular sulfur in video and what you posted is a liquid mixture. How do we get the granular one?
We bought all our bananas and pineapples from here.
I just let leaf miners go to town on my citrus. Yes the new leaves crinkle up, and they are ugly, but they still function (obviously not as well).
I couldn’t stand to look at the ugly foliage all riddled with leaf miners. It disgusted me.
Paul where are the links?
Fish amino acid best fertilizer for citres trees
i can see a mango fruit at the background, is that late variety?
