Episode 15 is one of if not the saddest anime episodes I’ve ever seen. Just seeing how Subaru loses everything and he just gives up, wandering aimlessly back to the mansion with nowhere else to go. I don’t know many people who could come back from something like that.

I have watched well over a hundred anime, thus having seen thousands of episodes, but episode 15 still stands among the top as my 2nd favorite anime episode, right after Steins Gate EP 22. This show always gave me WTF moment but I could mostly express them, then this episode comes along and when the end credits started to roll I just sat on my desk, jaw opened up to the floor not making a sound except for breathing. This was one of the most mindblowing experiences I ever had and what made Re Zero one of my favorite animes. The only other thing so far that I can think of that is as mindblowing as this is the reveal of Gintoki's backstory in Gintama episode 305; this was truely perfection....

Subaru definitely lost his mind - he’s constantly referred to ‘madman wearing Natsuki Subaru’s flesh’ throughout the process of the loop where he breaks, as well as described to be ‘living between dreams and reality’. However , there is one thing. Subaru COULD break free from his insanity if he truly wanted to, but he was preventing himself on a subconscious level, because he thought he truly completely lose his mind if he did so. That’s why he started coming back when Rem sacrificed herself for him. Also why he kept chanting ‘I’ll kill you.’ He was using his rage against petelguese to keep himself from going insane, which is also why he acts so rashly the next loop - his rage is keeping him from breaking.

Rem can heal herself to a certain degree after being heavily wounded, especially as a demon. So even after her neck and arms got twisted up she was able to move after healing up.
Imagine you were one of those guys that have to watch and wait every week for a new episode and then they showed the credits like this without confirming that there's another episode coming It had me in literal tears I was actually crying this episode because of how dark it was and then how they ended it with the rolling credit like that that's how you end a last episode so we didn't even know there was more episodes coming
This episode was actually my favorite episode of the series it was so dark and beautiful at the same time. This was the one that made me love the show.
You do not understand the amount of P A I N my brain was going threw when I was watching these episodes. It took me some time before my brain was ready to start watching again. I usually dont cry at anything, but these episodes made me feel the tears on my eye lids.

I think this episodes ending is so perfectly directed just because of that ending scene. When Subaru gets killed and those credits come up, you usually see those at the end of a damn movie or something, like THE END. But its really not the end.
Damn that ending was what Evangelion keep trying to do. That was a work of art and I can't tell if it's just in the directing or the character development/plot. Everything was hitting at that ending visual and music with the bloody credits in the snow..... You thought you chose violence, they were bout that life on this episode. I felt like I was watching the end of some 70s epic revenge drama.
I'd say Evangelion did a great job too, but this looked like some lovecraftian shit, Re:zero had some low points, but this was the first time we saw the real re:zero. About a year ago, when my brother first saw this particular episode, he told me how empty and sad he felt. When I watched it with him a few months later, I told him that I felt nothing and that he was a wimp. Boy, did I eat my words when episode 23 rolled around.

@@DamageMaximo Kaji and Matsuoka are pretty much same caliber for me and definitely some of the best, but I don't think either of them can even stand up to Hiroshi Kamiya, Tomokazu Sugita or Mamoru Miyano. Those three can play EVERYTHING and make it pretty much perfect ^^

Y’all, I decided to watch this show while I was on a treadmill at the gym. When I got to episode 15, I had to stop jogging when the scene in the cave happened. Not gonna lie, great show, but it gives you a hell of a time if you aren’t careful. Looking forward to this next one. It’s gonna get you bad. :)
