    thanks - was planning on doing this too and helpful to know we didn't have to bring around 2.75 all the time...

    Thanks for this. I'm going to Hawaii next week and plan on using the bus most of my time there. Do you suggest taking the bus from the airport to Waikiki if i have luggage?

      Thanks for watching! I would not recommend the bus to and from the airport if you have big luggage. The bus is often very crowded, sometimes we had to stand and wait for seats to open up and there is nowhere to put your luggage. I think the website mentions that luggage is not allowed on the buses. We used uber/lyft to and from the airport and then the bus for nearly everything else.

    Thank you so much for this video !! I've been to Hawaii several times & rented a car ! I dislike renting cars as they're very expensive !! Also,not so wise to drive around in areas we're not familiar with ,or the traffic laws ,especially in foreign countries !! I am planning to take my mom for her birthday celebration 🎂 🎈 for January the next year !! She used to live there in Waikiki as a young lady. So, I think it'll be great 👍 And she's got mobility issues now ,so using busses make more sense ,though we'll be walking a lot ( slowly lol ) there as well !! 👍🏝💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🚌💞

      Aw I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The bus system in Oahu is pretty easy and can save you lots of money. It got us pretty much everywhere we needed. Just use google maps to help you find what routes to take. You can also Uber or do a guided tour for places a little further away.

      Thank you for the information & suggestions ! I appreciate it !! I always use Google map & other apps on my trips ! I am not comfortable w/ Uber ,Lyft lately as there have been several rape / murder cases !! I just read the latest one a few days ago !! I am trying to avoid tours as they cost more than I plan the same things ! Lol. But,definitely taking busses & so good to hear you got to get to the most of places !! 👍😀💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🏝💞

      Ah, gotcha. For what it's worth, I did not do any tours near Honolulu, but I did do a North Shore tour when I was there in Jan 2022. I have previously done the North Shore with my family in 2017 and 2020 when we rented cars, and while it was good to be on our own time, we missed quite a few things. The tour was about a $100 but a car rental would have cost the same or more. It was great because they picked up near our hotel, and our guide was a local and shared a lot of information we would have never known. Also the bus to the north shore is quite far and the bus stops are a little more random and remote so we didn't want to bus that far from the city. If you are staying in or near the city, you should be fine with the bus. Have fun, and stay safe!

      Oh ,wow !! That sounds great !! Any tours that go for a few hrs to 7,8 hrs & pick people up at their accommodations is very good ,reasonably priced & very good deal as many cost more & many ask us to meet somewhere ! Which is good for people renting cars ,so on ! Thanks so much for the info !! I appreciate it !! 🙏🏼 Thank you so much for your replies !! Thank you ! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🏝🍍💞

    I've used public transit for the last 26 year's since I've lived here (Washington state) & it drops me off right in front of or at the least a block away from my destination) so it wouldn't bother me to use it there 😀 & I don't mind it 😀

    Just to understand this...if I loaded up the HOLO and took multiple trips (let's just say 3 trips within that day) that I would only be charged the $7.50/day rate?

    • @amyx4012
      @amyx4012  Рік тому

      Yep! That's correct. Once you spend the maximum amount a day (7.50) by riding and swiping, you don't get charged anymore. Any swipes after that are free of charge until like 2:59 am.

    I'm headed to Honolulu from Los Angeles tonight and I'm worried and panicked. I looked online and it says the bus doesn't take cash??? Where do you buy a holo card? I'm only staying for 3 days. Do they have a 3 day pass? They don't take cash, coins, or debit credit cards? I have to take the bus from the airport to my hostel in Waikiki. Please help. So confusing
    Do you happen to know if there's international fees for using your credit or debit cards? My phone carrier is Verizon. Honolulu charges a fee? Where do you suggest visiting? I'm going by myself

      I'm not sure since I haven't been there in a while but the website still says the bus takes cash fares. You'll need exact change. Otherwise you can get Holo cards at the ABC stores, they're everywhere in Waikiki. They have day passes that you can use to get unlimited rides for a day. You can reload your holo card each morning at the ABC store. Keep in mind from the airport, they don't usually allow big luggage on the bus. Check out the websites for more info: www.holocard.net/for-visitors/ and www.thebus.org/Fare/TheBusFares.asp

      @amyx4012 yeah but I need to get one from the airport to my Waikiki hostel and someone told me they don't sell holo cards at the airport..... wth so inconvenient. Why would a bus not take cards..... ridiculous

    • @amyx4012
      @amyx4012  5 місяців тому

      In some cities, buses dont take cards yet. Yea, they don't sell holo cards on the bus. You can only buy one way fare with cash on the bus. Just take out some cash at the airport and buy a drink or something to get change. Next time, plan ahead and you can order a Holo card online to be mailed to you and then you can add money online.
      More info on the bus from the airport here: airports.hawaii.gov/hnl/getting-to-from/ground-transportation/the-bus/

    Hey there! Can someone get on the bus without a holo card?

    • @rosaliesalas8578
      @rosaliesalas8578 2 місяці тому

      You'd have to pay $3 cash. It's better with the HOLO card because you wont spend as much on fare

    Yikes! When I was there in the 90s a one month buss pass was $15! Now it's $70. INSANE!!!!
